at a bare minimum the league should appeal and Goodell should add a massive fine if he won't suspend him longer. That contract is such a blatant attempt to avoid a financial penalty they should hit him one anyway.
That is how the Browns have tended to structure all their big deals under Berry. Garrett, JJ III, Chubb, Teller, and Ward have very low base salaries in year one of their respective deals.

IMO 6 games is a lot for someone who legally speaking has done nothing wrong (Zeke also got 6 even tho he was proven innocent) but its not as egregious as 10-17 games.

Just glad this is all over and we can stop hearing about it.

They gave Tom freaking Brady, the greatest QB of all time, 4 games for allegedly maybe being generally aware of ball being deflated by a normal natural phenomenon.

If they give Watson the same for being a serial predator, they are even bigger clowns than I think they are.

That was "payback" for Spygate..... i.e a lot of the owners thought he went to easy on Kraft back in 2007, so this was his way at getting back at him.

Why is he settling with everyone if he did nothing wrong?

i have no idea...

The same reason other rich people aren’t. Because they have money and can settle…

well this is a civil matter vs criminal one. so your implication is these women are choosing to get paid some money in exchange for not seeking criminal justice against him which would be a disservice to other/future victims.

Guess I'm just a pessimist when it comes to a lot of things involving money.

They gave Ray Lewis nothing and he helped cover up a murder (and plead guilty to Obstruction of Justice). They even made him one of the faces of the league after.

Roethlisberger walked so Watson could run.

To get back in the publics good graces Watson just needs to go the Ray Lewis route and talk about Jesus every time he opens his mouth.

The league could easily appeal. Arbitrator recommended zero for Zeke and the league still turned around and suspended him for 6 games.

This isn't over yet.

Yes, the women seeking settlements are choosing money over justice.

That’s why this is so frustrating. The NFL and NFLPA have the opportunity to serve some justice and they aren’t. I’m done with the league.

Several of these women went to the police and saw nothing come from it. For them, the settlement money was the only justice they were going to get.

Of course. I don’t blame a single one of them. It was their choice and they deserve the settlement if that’s they prefer.

The NFLPA deserves all the blame. I won’t be a fan of a single player that keeps their union membership. Despicable. Collectively players should get together and say this is not something they stand for.

I think six games is a pretty good suspension. The NFL has a long history of caring about women's money and they've shown that devotion with their many years of wearing pink in October to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Absolutely pathetic of a punishment. Hope the NFL appeals, but this is an absurdly terrible look to only get that short of a punishment given the volume of accusations against him.

But in fairness, at least he wasn't history's greatest monster and bet on a game he didn't play in. That'd totally be worth a full year suspension had he been that egregiously awful. /s

The NFL (as pretty much any league) has the token ethics code:
All persons associated with the NFL are required to avoid “conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League.” This requirement applies to players, coaches, other team employees, owners, game officials and all others privileged to work in the National Football League. ... Conduct that imposes inherent danger to the safety and well being of another person; and Conduct that undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the NFL, NFL clubs, or NFL players.

They must have found enough evidence in the 23 cases that indicates enough 'conduct detrimental to the integrity of .... the NFL.
