You may not agree, but the president of the team has been quoted on the radio as saying you can't win a game zero to zero, and several other loaded comments alluding to the dynamic Lou mentions above. Julien plays for the tie and to steal a point. That's what he does. His goal is to keep it close and try to get to OT.

Jeez, if Cam said that then he should be canned.

I honestly am not sure what side of the fence I sit on Claude.

Yes, Mgmt did not give him the best players.

But for those that defend him, how can you explain these end of season collapses for two years in a row ? I cannot believe that
the team played over their heads for 70 games and then showed
their true colors the last 12. Something isn't right there.

And the last two games. How do they come out like world beaters
vs Det, then two days later act like they don't care.

In either of these two cases it is not management. It is either
Claude, the players, or both. The inconsistency this year was mystifying, just look at the winter classic. Again, this isn't on
management. So what do you do ?

As I posted the other day, this should really read 3 years in a row, 4 out of the last 5.

Even 2013, where I doubt they would have won game 7 in Chicago, the end of game 6 can be called a collapse without too much argument.

So, the case could be made that the Bruins suffered a late-season collapse for the last 5 straight years. Again, at least 4 of the last 5.

All coaching? Not in my opinion. There's plenty of blame to go around, but big changes should happen, IMO.

Jeez, if Cam said that then he should be canned.

If my memory is correct he (Cam) said that fairly late in the 2011 season and it's like a switch went off in Julien, the Bruins became a little more aggressive offensively and went on to win the cup.

There are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes, so why are we to just assume because they haven't told us, that decisions haven't already been made and the appropriate parties notified?

Last year, EDM obviously wanted to talk to Chia, so that had to be worked out before any announcement. In addition, they were not going to make a decision on Clode until they hired a GM and then let him do his due diligence. I'm sure that Sweeney was in communication with Clode last year while this was going on. Either way, Julien was going to get paid, so I'm not going to shed crocodile tears for the guy given the circumstances.

Good points. I keep reading that last year the Bruins left Julien "twisting in the wind," but how do we know that Sweeney and Claude didn't talk every single day.

really don't care about him saying you can't win a game zero to zero when the actual facts show that the Bruins are more often than not in the top of the league in goals scored.

Does the president of the teams comments make the facts not true? I don't thinks so.

I remember a whole lot of six pack games over the years where "everyone wants their cookies" no matter the score. So this playing to win 1-0 is BS and the facts/Stats back that up.

Yet another meme destroyed by the facts. And Cam's comment was from like 2010-11, before that "win 0-0" system won Cam a Cup ring. Cam himself later denounced that comment on 98.5. Too bad some still hang their agenda on it.

Neely also said those who think there could be a rift among the Bruins brass are re-hashing feelings he had a couple of years ago when he first took over.

“I know people always talk about ‘winning games 0-0’ comment that I brought up a number of years ago. That’s something I sat down with Claude and with Pete, even before I made that quote,†said Neely. “Right now, I’m not going into specifics, but I feel like we have a good group that is pulling in the same direction . . .

so for the ones who say its a snooze fest and a bunch of low scoring one goal games explain the following stats to me. Years since CJ took over. Rank in the NHL for Goals scored, goals against and the goal differential.

Year --- GF --- GA --- Diff

2007-08 -25 - 12 - (10)
2008-09 - 2 - 1 - +78
2009-10 - 29 - 2 - +6
2010-11 - 8 - 3 - +51
2011-12 - 2 - 5 - +67
2012-13 - 11 - 3 - +22
2013-14 - 3 - 2 - +84
2014-15 - 23 - 11 - +2
2015-16 - 5 - 19 - +10

other than his first year here and last season to a lesser degree 2009-2010. I see a whole lot of years where we have huge goal differentials and being tops of the NHL in goals for AND agianst. Where are all these 1-0 and 2-1 snoozefests people talk about?

I don't see it.

5 out of 9 years in the top 10 in Goals scored. 6 out of 9 years in the top 11 in goals scored. But CJ hates offense

All of that offense going on with a bunch of grinders because management trades away all the pure offensive players.

CJ's system is made for offense. Imagine what the goals for would have been like if they got some top end offensive talent for him to play.

Those goals for/against differentials are impressive for 09, 11, 12, and 14.

To put that into perspective, the supposed juggernaut Capitals lead the league this year with a + 59. 2nd place is Pitt at +42.

Well in that case the Caps and Pitt must be winning a bunch of 2-1 snooze fests this year

Giving up two goals in the last two minutes of a single game isn't even close to the same thing as going 3-9-1 down the stretch. Especially when that game is in the Stanley Cup Finals. That's not a collapse in any stretch. Calling it one is dumb and disingenuous.

Scoring by committee while playing in a decade-long weak eastern conference accounts for quite a chunk of offence. Julien's preferred plan of attack method was throwing/kicking the puck around the boards till it popped out and bounced into the goal off someone's rear end. Who was the star player who brought the crowd out of their seats with individual effort these past years. Not since Seguin. And Seguin wasn't even a proper fit for Claude's bouncy-bouncy offence, it was all individual effort on his part.

What happens when a team commits to a hard forecheck against his teams . They spend all their time chipping pucks out of the Dzone and then are too tired to retrieve the puck after they dumped it down the ice. The system only works when they happen to play with a lead or when the opposition doesn't pressure them.
Its why they looked so inept against NJ and Car two teams who commit to a strong forecheck.

The Bruins score a lot of goals when they have the lead and can force teams into mistakes. With the exception of the Hawks game what usually happens when their trailing by multiple goals. Better yet what happens in close or tie games where their foremost goal is to prevent goals.

As far as top end offensive talent goes, the Bruins possess a fair amount of offensive talent. I wonder how proficient it would look in another system.

It's not made to get PP's.
Doesn't really matter who is the coach next year, I think they will continue this mismatch of players until Sweeney can get his real team together. So I'm not too concerned with them getting a new coach. I would keep Clode, even though I'm not a fan of his system.

ya that guy and his system suck. Its been 9 years of lucky bounces off players rear ends that kept the bruins as one of the most consistent offensive teams in the NHL. right.

So is scoring not scoring unless it is done by a "star player who brought the crowd out of their seats with individual effort"? Are we really going back to the moronic "a pretty goal is worth more than a garbage goal" or the "I'd rather them lose an exciting game than win a boring game" conversations?

you forgot that pretty goals by star players are like 3 pointers. Geez obviously you know nothing about hockey.

Goal by Kelly to tie the game. Damn if only Seguin got it we would be up by 2.

Claude doesn't handle star offensive players very well. Savard could have been the exception, but that was sheer talent winning out. Claude's offence was good for catching up on 40 winks on many occasions over the years. At least I found it to be so.

Seriously, not including Seguin, who has been a star offensive player on this team?

I sometimes think people would rather win the hockey card or NHL Network highlight reel battle than win an actual game. It really seems having league leaders on your team is better for bragging rights than team accomplishments. And if the league leader looks good on the highlight reels and brings you out of your seat, that's even better; team performance be damned.

Brad Marchand was 5th in goals, more than Seguin this year, so will he do? Or does the fact he is a defensive beast make it impossible to be a star offensive player?

who are these star offensive players that he didn't do well with?

I hear these things thrown out there all the time and never see any examples to back it up. It's just like the CJ hates offensive comments when his teams are almost always in the tops of the NHL in goals. I just don't get it.

Facts like these don't matter. It's the subjective opinions of the critics that matter.

Plus, these numbers only go to prove that IF the coach had let loose all of our offensive stallions over the years, this team would have shattered records from the 1980's!!!
