Just to pry a little into this. Just for giggles, what would Philly want for Giroux to go to the Pens.

I mean outside of the usual 1st and stuff. True needs?

It would be interesting for even the Carter connection.
1) Flyers 1st need is cap space so no players making 4m + back unless purpose of salary cap dump and expiring eoy.
2) The flyers true need is a rebuild.

So in pens case it has to be the usual 1 plus.

Side note. I love Kapanen and his speed as much as anyone on here. But Flyers need a bulldozer not a patch up job.

Nah, if we're giving up assets, it had better be for a goalie prospect.
Flyers have several guys with high upside and fans vary on who ranks where. I don't think anyone would be opposed to Thier inclusion to balance out a deal for a high return

Bourque stayed and they won the cup the following year. I will pay a number one for Giroux if he signs three years 18 million like Hall and Bergie and Marchand....To win a cup. If not, you have to question his commitment to winning a cup......Something Bourque wanted badly...His leadership has been questioned by many Flyer fans.

Nobody is giving a number one so that he can fly back to Philly after the season. I dont think anyway. Let them if they want. I would rather over pay for Hertl.

No actual flyers fan has ever questioned Girouxs ability to lead. The questions have been about why the team has never given him any support to win anything.

Would have to think 1st and Poulin is the starting point

Thanks guys, I don't think that's an unreasonable ask at all.

The Pens would need to do a little dump at the minimum, and that's considering the possibility of Zucker possibly being out the remainder of the season, or they hold him out with conditioning stints from core muscle surgery and use his 5.5 LTIR. They would have to have that feeling they have a real chance as well to spend assets on a high end rental as, Giroux. Highly unlikely.

Who knows what they'll do.

Risto is a need as well, and probably a much more manageable target if the Flyers want to let him go. Last I remember they want to re-sign him, though.

I would love that for you guys*. Absolutely love it.

*actually, come to think of it, the Pens actually know how to use players to their strengths and get them to buy-in to a competent system. It'd be super fitting for the Flyers to cough up a 1st, 2 2nds, and Gostisbehere for Risto only to toss him to the Penguins on the cheap and have him finally become a very good player.

I would certainly think he would come cheaper than what the Flyers paid, but not necessarily cheap. That would only be due to him having a year of term left compared to being a UFA now. Like, it knocking off the two 2nds or the 1st.

1st + B prospect or 2 - 2nds and lower B Prospect seems fair.

If Zucker is LTIRed for the remainder of the season there's no need for retention. I can also see where they would do it so there's room for callups for a pick.

He is a UFA this offseason, actually.

No way I target a player of Barron's level as a flyers fan. I'm looking for better.
But you won’t get it. Giroux won’t be giving Fletcher a long list to work with.
Time to tempter expectations no matter which team he’ll agree to waive for. If there even is such a team.

There’s a place 2 hrs north on the NJ turnpike, Claude can still see his family often. Full cap can be taken but Price has to be right.

how would philly feel about this (i feel like there will probably be mixed reviews):

giroux + atkinson + braun

for

Dumba + fiala + rask + 1st or 2nd

my thinking it we trade fialas age for a known contract in atkinsons, The first or 2nd plus the difference in dumba vs braun gets us giroux and allows us to resign him, rask is for salary (his contract expires this year)

Minnesota isn't making their team worse this year and trading away a 1st.

I cant see Boston doing that unless he was going to sign a 3 year deal. I dont think he goes to Colorado. Washington needs defense. I also think he may force a trade to one team only like Hall did to Boston.

My offer would be Studnika and a number 2 pick. Or Trent Frederick and a number 2.

I would do those trades in a half second if I was Boston, but the Flyers will get far better offers.

f***ing Studnika ffs...

Nobody knows what list Giroux will provide, or if he has a list at all. Maybe Fletcher knows that Buffalo Winnipeg and Pittsburgh are out of the question because nobody actually wants to live there (Giroux included), but I'm guessing like you.

Pittsburgh is an absolutely wonderful place to live though. Maybe not if you have a Jagr-type hunger for, uh, action, but for 95% of these hockey family men it's great--scenic, nice suburbs, easier to get in and out of the city for games compared to the Goliath coastal cities, friendly people, fairly low-key/easy to be anonymous. Good golf and shit out there. Less good dining options compared to a larger city, but that's about it.

Rossi and Addison won't be involved in the playoff hunt and those are the pieces the flyers should target. Center and rhd are the flyers needs and the wild have both. One of the two with a first or together with salary coming back. If they want to be in on giroux they could easily be in the lead

I'm sure Rossi will be up for the final 7 games and the playoffs

I really, really hope that any mention of Rossi would be shut down rather quickly.

Not for a rental. Especially Rossi. Our beat writer was also saying our gm doesn't want to move a 1st round pick, or top prospects. Sorry but top prospects like Rossi or addison aren't getting traded for rentals

Probably not really interested then. Rossi I get but Addison comes with a first. If guerrin isn't looking to move significant pieces then I guess they'll have to settle for depth players at the deadline

I mean with all due respect, chuck fletcher is philly's GM, and his record isn't good.
