Captaining a winning team isn't meaningful to you? Leadership is a good trait. What has Giroux captained championship wise?

THE METRO DIVISION ALL STAR TEAM1!!!!1!

But seriously, such a bad faith argument. Look at the organization Giroux is in, the coaches and teammates he has had. He's a top-tier NHL player, but he wasn't gonna turn Dave Hakstol into Scotty Bowman and "lead" guys like Brandon Manning and Chris Vandevelde into being viable NHL players.

Meanwhile, I could probably captain a Canadian WJC team to Gold. Because even with an aging former low-tier high school third-pairing defender in the mix, they'd still have the best f***ing roster in the tourney. I could ride pine and shout "Good shot bud" and "pucks deep" the whole time. Woo.

Maybe an unpopular opinion and I'm not convinced G would waive for LA but there are some connections there and LA has the assets for sure...putting Giroux on the powerplay and either Kopitar or Byfield's wing turns LA from a top 5v5 team and general pain in the ass into a darkhorse.

Kempe-Kopitar-Giroux/Iafallo
Moore-Danault-Arvidsson
Giroux/Iafallo-Byfield-Brown
Lemieux-Lizotte-Kaliyev

I don't really have a serious offer to make, just haven't had my morning coffee yet so everything sounds like a good idea

Just so we're clear -- you believe the Flyers would consider trading Giroux for Dillon Dube and Michael Stone, and that other teams hoping to acquire Giroux wouldn't be willing to offer significantly more?

Why would you trade for Giroux and then slap him on your 3rd line? He can be a PPG player.

I hope you are right, but I really think everyone will be surprised how little return he gets. I understand the importance of Giroux for a contending team because of his Faceoff % and defensive play. But I am confident Chuck will get half value.

I'd make the trade conditional on if he resigns and if the team wins a Cup.

His defensive play isn't bad, but it's not one of the top reasons anyone would trade for him. Goals, assists, faceoffs, plays W and C, power play, then maybe defense? Maybe you have him PK a little?

Well the Flyers did make Nate Thompson a day 1 signing. ;)

In all seriousness, even Fletcher is not that dumb to acquire that slop and Fletch's hockey iq is a very low bar.

Marleau only got a conditional 3rd round and Iginla only got a conditional 4th round when they were traded as rentals. Why should Giroux get much more than that?

Well I mean Iginla was 40 at the time he got a 4th. His play had pretty much fallen off a cliff. He had something like 27 points in 80 games. Marleau was 39 or 40, put up 22 points in 66 games. Neither of those are close to comparable to what Giroux is now.

He'd look great in a Penguins uniform.

I want Giroux to go to the Pens and the Pens win the Cup to shame the Flyers. The Flyers are going to be stuck in ineptitude and mediocrity until everyone is gone from that organization. I figure the Flyers have at least 5-10 years of Dave Scott before maybe Comcast fires him, but nothing will change with this organization until the likes of Holmgren is out of the picture and all of his cronies. This might be another 20 years. My only hope is that the team misses the playoffs for 10 years in a row to speed up this administrations' ouster. I don't have to hope they will fail to develop talent and fail to draft well because that is a given with this group. The Flyers are like the Oakland Raiders under the Davis family for the last 30 years, just a clownshow of signings and development.

That’s pretty backwards. One of the Flyer posters mentioned that when G is on the ice, they are Vegas level good. When he’s not - well they are bottom 3-5 team. He and Hart have floated them even to this point.

Are you really comparing a 34 year old Giroux who' still the best player on his team and on pace for 70 points to two 40 year olds in the twilight of their careers on pace for under 30 points? That's your best comparison? You didn't even think to use the first time Iginla was traded as a comp? You know, when he was 35 and still a good player and his return was a 1st and 2 prospects?

Ah yes, 2017 Iginla and 2020 Marleau. Ages 39 and 40. Excellent comparables.

When Iginla was traded four years before in 2013 as a rental, he returned a first and some (mediocre) pieces. But it's definitely the 2017 trade we should be looking at, because Giroux is 40 now.

EDIT: Beaten to the punch again!

You need to go to bed or something lol. I swear this board believes Giroux is 50 years old or something.

He’s a UFA rental with a NMC. His value is going to be severely affected....
It seems like he doesn’t want to play far from home wherever he may goi, and resigning with the flyers in the offseason could be likely.

unless 2close teams where he signs off on get into some kind of bidding war, say for ex NYR and Pitt, his value could bring back a little more.
I expect he’ll bring back a late 1st, solid prospect/decent , and a roster player( mostly for cap reasons, but the player could have some potential upside for the Flyers future).

I think the Hertl/Giroux returns will be very similar

You really have zero concept of hockey players and their values do you?

JG Pageau just got double that value in a trade.

Barron and a 1st MIGHT get the convo started.

Pageau also signed a 6 year extension at $5m AAV the same day he was acquired. I wonder how that impacted his return of 28 OA + 59 OA in 2020.

What do the Flyers want ? Boston seems like a fit. Have the Flyers made this official ?.
1st + blue-chip is the ask for 50% retained Giroux

Seems like Washington, Bruins, Colorado seem like solid destinations. Claude Giroux is the kind of player that could win you the cup with a real supporting cast.
