So I just made a haiku that doesn't obey the actual rules of a haiku

Oh God.... X-Pac just came back.
And he already ruined a perfectly good match with Jericho and Guerrero to "get even"
Just like he did every match for the whole last year.
X-Pac just came back.
Oh God.....

20 years ago today. Hogan. Rock. Wrestlemania. One of the greatest professional wrestling matches in history. And that wrestling genius only awarded it 3 stars lmfao.

Not quite to No Way Out 2001 but Haku is legitimately terrifying. Jesus Christ alive I'll say it one time THAT is a man who could legitimately destroy prime Lesnar in 90 seconds assuming Haku is in his prime too

2/22/01 a legend is born in Kemper Arena. The crowd goes "you suck" in unison to Angle's music without anyone telling them to. This is incredible

I don't know how my Olympic Hero is gonna pull it out vs the Rock at No Way Out but I'll be happy with either result

The greatest match of all time occurred 25 years ago today. Bret Hart vs. Austin at WrestleMania 13.

Probably my pick as well. I remember watching it a few days after Wrestlemania on a tape that a friend had recorded. Great stuff.

Certainly the best and most effective double switch ever. Not only was the double switch pulled off flawlessly, it also pulled Austin fully into the main event tier while giving the company their new #1 heel

That's certainly part of what makes the match great. Came along at the perfect time for those elements to all completely work.

I just finished No Way Out 2001. There may not ever be another "non-Big 4" PPV of the caliber ever again in the Attitude Era. It was easily the best "non-Big 4" PPV since In Your House Canadian Stampede.

My Olympic Hero is no longer champion. He's not crying, YOU'RE crying!!!

How far back did you start this? Were you watching during the lead up to In Your House: Canadian Stampede? If so, how did Golddust get added to Team USA? Austin/LOD/Shamrock are all easy to picture. I would have written it with a surprise Golddust save where he gets on the mic after and says under all his Hollywood glitz he’s still a Texan American dang gummit etc, or have Austin appeal to him, Texan to Texan or whatever.

I'm like 99% sure it was because Brian Pillman and Golddust were feuding over Terri and shortly before Brian died there was an angle where Terri all but belonged to him. I'll never forget "Pillman's XXX files" on the titantron or being made to wrestle in a dress. Now that I think of it I hope that wasn't his last match

As for when I started I picked March 1997 when it was "Raw is War" for the very first time right before Mania 13. As far as I'm concerned, that was when the Attitude Era started and it simply did not have a name yet. When you've got Bret Hart screaming "THIS IS BULLSHIT!!" uncensored, on a brand new, rustic set with the show also having brand new music and ideas, you've officially committed. Thus the 8 months between then and Survivor Series 1997 was a formality and the "Attitude Era" was just a popular branding for the product that McMahon and co hadn't come up with yet despite the programming CLEARLY being Attitude Era

I've been watching some old episodes of Superstars from '94, and I'd forgotten how utterly terrible WWF was then. Yes they had Bret, Shawn and Owen, but overall the roster is pretty thin. Some things that stand out:

- I can't believe how much airtime they are devoting to this stupid Jerry Lawler vs Doink storyline. Midcard comedy feuds have always been part of wrestling, but this just drags on and on. Also, Lawler is absolutely terrible on commentary; just one bad joke after another. And having Mr. "What a manoeuvre!" beside him doesn't help.

- Well Dunn. Not only the stupidest name for a tag team, but also the worst outfit with the thong on the outside of their tights. It looked better when Asuka did it. They actually weren't bad wrestlers, but they never had a chance there.

- Abe Knuckleball Schwartz. It's an idiotic gimmick, but the worst part is that they're actually bothering to repackage Steve Lombardi, who was synonymous with the word jobber. I mean, Hogan has signed with WCW, and they're making a run at being legitimate competition for WWF. And Vince's response is a new gimmick for Steve Lombardi????

McMahon has a plan. Oh God.... what is it this time? He gonna recruit Rock or even Stone Cold? I smelled that fake face turn pre Mania 2000 from a mile away and at this point I'm expecting something that makes no sense

No wonder you remember it so fondly. I vaguely remember the KOTR tournament of 1999 when I was 10, the corporate ministry and Owen Hart's death. I always told myself even then that this would all be available to watch one day and to not be upset about missing it.

Thank God I live in 2022 and happened to be right

I love pissed off Angle. This is a nice change in character for him. Reminds me of the man I've always known and loved. Not sure what's going on with Benoit at the moment but he's throwing his weight around more than usual too and he's going at it with Eddie. God please give me more

2001 is easily the best year since 1997 and WCW is just a few weeks from going out of business

I know he's a taboo subject but it's a shame Benoit was only champion once. He's absolutely at Rock, Austin etc level in having a great match every time he comes out
