Don't actually hate it but Sexual Chocolate >>>>> Love Machine Malenko

Mark Henry just simply pulls off the playboy gimmick to perfection is all. I think my favorite AE memory to date was Henry getting hooked up with a tranny and he runs out of the room mortified, gagging and terrorized. And later he gets shamed by his mother over it.

Of all the over-sexualized nonsense the AE pushed THAT was genuinely funny

Part way through Armageddon 2000. Rejoicing in a world where Edge and Christian are MY tag team champions again. This reeks of awesomicity dude!! Praying we've reached the end of the Kane/Jericho feud. That match was "meh" as hell. Same with Holly/Regal. Chyna/Venis was predictable. Hoping maybe Molly can pull off a win as champion here. Got Billy Gunn and Benoit about to go at it. Might go to sleep after this and pick it up in the morning.

And they are hyping the HELL out of this HIAC match. This better be the best damn thing I've ever seen because it reeks of screw job with how often Vince is getting involved in trying to cancel it and I'm not gonna be real happy if that's how it goes.

It is the most Attitude era match I can think of if that makes sense. Once you watch it you'll see what I'm talking about. If you're watching for the first time that's cool. I wish I could take you back to what those times were really like. You looked forward to Mondays to watch RAW. Such a cool time for wrestling.

I feel like that was the final year of it and it started changing slowly after 2000. Might just be my perception though. Was 22 years ago.

Just finished Armageddon 2000

I see what you mean by "Most Attitude Era match" because it was at times ridiculous but always entertaining. Thank freaking God my hunch about Angle was right. I know at some point Jericho is gonna win 2 main events in the same night at Mania. I think it was 17 anyway but again, I'm not sure because I don't know how he's gonna do it when WCW was bought March 26th (easy to me remember because that's my sister's birthday) and Mania would've been a short time later. But also the most "Attitude Era" ending possible would've been "lmao HHH wins" while Foley has to resign as Commish and I gotta sit through a minimum of another 4 more months of him being on my screen half the show every night. Thank God I was right about Kurt getting lucky was consistent with his booking. I can breathe again.

It's also occurring to me that (relevant to my AE watch through) WCW does not have much longer to live and sooner than later the invasion is going to start.

It's gettin real

Gonna start the Raw after Armageddon 2000.

Man I really hope Foley doesn't get forced out. This is gonna suck ass. But I guess I should be thankful his tenure lasted for even as long as it did given how long the HHH/Stephanie/DX reign of terror lasted. I guess I'll have to see what happens considering Vince laid out that impassioned speech about divorcing Linda. Maybe she'll take his side somehow

It just occurred to me that every champ in WWF right now is a heel except for Steve Blackman. I like a good heel but that's too much even for me. At least dump Ivory.

Edit: Not missing Bossman or X-Pac even slightly. Bossman was fine as a talent, but all of his plotlines were smut. The X-Pac character has been genuinely unlikable for a solid year and I was getting burned out on him even when he was tagging with Kane and "proving to himself he could compete in the land of the freaking giants!"

The unifying tournament was at Vengeance 2001.

I don't know how much you know about Wrestlemania 17, so I won't spoil the match ups or results. But I will say it is the best Wrestlemania of all time, with WM14 close behind at #2.

Also, IMO the most AE match ever is at WM17

The only spoiler I have right now is that everyone known to man calls it GOAT Mania and I read it once on Wikipedia. Lol and now you've affirmed it. And I'm 99% sure Edge spears Jeff Hardy in mid-air during a tag team ladder match and that's the most AE match ever. That's all I know and I'm itching with excitement. I'm ready to freak out.

Some of it might come back to me along the way like pieces of a puzzle I've seen before but I'm glad I more or less devoted 20 years to sticking my head into the ground holding out for the day EVERYTHING would be a click away to watch.

Haha, I'll confirm that he does. And that's not the match I'm thinking of as the most AE match ever, you'll know it when you see it.

.................. The Rock and Taker are tag champions. At the expense of Edge and Christian. I know I said everyone that's champion but Blackman is a heel but man.... Why don't you just slow the f*** down there buckaroo??? Damn man. I cant have 5 second poses without the belts

Oh well. Rock and Taker are a great duo. It's really hard to hate it. Even if this IS total heinousity by Foley

Wrestlemania 17 is the best show in WWE history. Everything on that card was built beautifully and there's like 4 or 5 really great matches with zero boring matches. It was a really exciting time. I can't believe that was over 20 years ago.

Annnnndddd Foley is fired in humiliating fashion. Knew it was coming. I'm actually surprised he lasted as long as he did. But dear God, this better not turn into the unbearable smut show it was in December 1999 to "Augustish" 2000. I can handle "1998" but not that crap. Watching the following Smackdown and the first 10 minutes is Steph and Vince washing themselves in their personal glory. Boy where have I seen this before? Might as well go through the motions

Took a pretty long break from the AE watch through. On the 1/8/01 edition of Raw and Austin's got a title shot vs Angle. I have no idea what's gonna happen here. Gonna predict HHH screws the whole thing up out of spite and hope I'm wrong

And HHH screws the whole thing up. I don't know whether to cry or wind my watch. And I hear "The Game" play after the assault. It sucks that I legitimately have no idea if it's dubbed or if he's using his "new" theme.

Oh God I just had a thought..... Austin's not gonna win the Rumble AGAIN is he? I gotta keep telling myself GOAT Mania is coming like a mantra over here.

Peacock carries it. They bought the rights to WWE network like a year or so ago. I can't really remember when I decided I was gonna do an Attitude Era watchthough (I think this has taken me almost 2 years) but I decided to make March 1997 my Attitude Era starting point. I argue when you abandon the glitz and glam of mid 90's Raw for Marilyn Manson and the rustic war zone, and Bret Hart screaming "THIS IS BULLSHIT!!" you're officially Attitude Era and it simply doesn't have a name yet.

You're close to the best time. The run up between the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania 17 is worth it

I'm on the January 15th edition of Raw and stopping for the moment to mention I had a mild mark out moment that's made this run amazing for me. HHH officially came out to his Motorhead song for the first time and having year 2022 (is it going to be hindsight or foreknowledge in this case? Hmm funny) it could not have possibly been a better song by a better group and released at a better time. The whole thing is *chef's kiss*

Nothing will ever be funnier than this:

I remember that. It had potential but took it too far. That and Chainsaw Charlie was peak Vince Russo.

Mark Henry getting set up by Chyna trying to get it with a tranny is gonna be hard to top. "OMG A PENIS!" and just runs out like Shaggy and Scooby saw a ghost is just the right amount of risque for programming that was trying to do it

Alright I'm officially at Rumble 2001

Gonna make a prediction that HHH beats Angle. Austin wins the Rumble. I've seen this recipe too many times for it to not happen.

But I could be wrong. I'm ready for the peak of the AE now

My Olympic Hero retains!!!!! That payoff of Austin wrecking the match was mostly worth the insufferable hell that was HHH 2000. It's just a shame it had to take this long.

The collision of golden shovels might destroy the galaxy. Rumble is next

Well I was half correct. LOLAustinWins is too strong, even for HHH. But you know what? After watching a year of DX get peak 80's Hogan booking on every Raw and Smackdown! in 2000 and everyone being fed to HHH for the sake of it, I'll enjoy every morsel of this "something different" and all the carnage that goes with it. I love a good heel but 2000 HHH just was not good booking. Poor Kane. That dude deserved to win a Rumble at least once, if not to square off with Undertaker for the belt at some point.

My poor Olympic Hero isn't for long now. Someone's taking that belt off him soon. It just doesn't make sense for him to keep it much longer. For what it's worth, that match he had vs HHH felt like babyface psychology by Angle. That's a hell of a great consolation for me. I thought he'd turn long ago but maybe it's now. At last those rotten children in the stands who disrespect a man who fought for their country with a broken freaking neck will learn their lesson and have a hero they can look up to and role model themselves after.

Oh yeah and Rumble 2001 is an easy 5 out 5 stars for me. The Dudleys vs Edge and Christian was total awesomicity and Jericho vs Benoit was *chef's kiss*

Hoping Edge and Christian can get the belts back soon but we're LONG overdue for the Hardys and Too Cool to get a push. The popularity of the Dudleys gimmick of plastering people through tables is what the people want. Them having the belts is absolutely the right move. I'm disappointed T&A were never champs. Feels like WWF just threw them together for a team that could do a job for monster babyfaces. Sometimes you need that but I actually really liked their potential. Oh well. Not the worst thing

Late edit: I don't know if this is the end of the road for Chyna but they did an excellent job blurring reality with her neck condition. If 2022 WWE is to survive, they need to do more stuff like that. People need to feel like they're seeing sport in a world where MMA is authentic. I almost wish more matches ended with injuries in kayfabe but I completely understand why it's a bad look. It's an excellent tactic to allow a champion to retain.

Not to overhype it but as great as the 2001 Rumble was, WM17 is that much better.

Enjoy the next couple "months" of build and payoff. I'm jealous, I wish I would relive it without the knowledge of what happens

I've made it as far as Feb 12th 2001 edition of Raw and I'm almost in disbelief that Angle is still champion. If he somehow pulls it off at No Way Out against the Rock and I'm going to be amazed. Taker and Kane together is fantastic. Kinda wish this had been done sooner but better late than never.
