Proposal: Clarke MacArthur to Toronto

Clarke MacArthur's recent concussion appears to be career ending, Ottawa having $4,650,000 count against the internal budget will hamstring any chance they had at contention.

What would it take to convince Toronto to take on the financial burden, and help out a divisional rival?

"Burden"

"Helping division rival"

Seems like this proposal has a hell of a chance.

Google the word "insurance."

if lupul is able to play and considered a cap dump, then what would we have to add to macarthur to get him?

100% ridiculous

The only thing more ridiculous, was a Habs fan (of course) suggesting we send someone young and useful, for the retirement bound player.

Here's an idea: No deal.
...and why the Leafs?

It's one thing to take on Michalek with one year left and another to take on four years of MacArthur.

Leafs aren't going to help a division rival out of that contract.

Why not? We helped you out of Dion's. ;)

Really though, I'd just as soon hang onto Mac. Either the contract is insured and is therefore no problem, or he comes back and plays at some point, or he doesn't, and we LTIR him. Either way, I'm not paying the Leafs to take the contract, let alone a blue chip prospect like Brown that we just drafted.

4 years @ 4.6?

It cost Lawson Crouse to get out from Bolland.

Chabot would be the ask if his contract isnt insured. that is a huge dent to a team on an internal budget. if it is insured the sens dont have a problem

yeah im sure melnyk will have no problem paying the guy 18.75 million not to play if his contract is uninsured. surely that wouldnt hamper a team with an internal budget:)

I think the Sens wouldn't have an arena to play in if Chabot was traded for cap relief. Fans would literally storm the place.

I think Ottawa will bite the bullet on this one either way. Don't see him being traded.

I don't think it's as big a deal as we think. The 4 million I mean. Should be LTIR and there's special programs for teams that need to borrow money.

Leafs would never do it. They aren't in the business of taking on bad contracts...they are doing everything right now to get out of those deals.

If it's true that his contract was uninsured, that's Ottawa's problem. It will screw their budget for the next 4 years. Sorry but that is the risk.

Honestly given Mac's concussion history...he shouldn't play again. He has his life to think about. He will get paid regardless, so he will be well taken care of. He will feel obligated because of the contract issue...but he should think of himself and his family.

There are special programs for teams that need to borrow money??? Yeah...they are called bank loans. The NHL isn't going to give Melnyk any money. Franchises lose money every year. That's the risk with ownership.

Maybe the Leafs should offer a 7th round pick for Sieloff it would add a little more spice to future Leafs vs. Sens games.

That's a really bad contract and Toronto doesn't have space on LTIR, so the return would have to be spectacular.

Robidas + Greening + 3rd round pick

for

MacArthur + Colin White/Thomas Chabot

Both Robidas and Greening expire this year.

Is White or Chabot worth holding that contract for 3 years past this one?

No chance.
