Hoping he gets picked up somewhere
disagree, I wish him the best if he does get picked up, but I would rather have the ability to have him in the minors for call up in case of emergency

Just curious...why Gravel and not Forbort?
Is Gravel now ahead of Forbort?
Would be much better not keeping a 900k cap hit just for the option to bring back some more Ehrhoff.
Agreed PJBII. I think it's a chance to create some competition too since they were almost always seen on the same footing. But for all we know Gravel comes in and blows the doors off. Glad he just finally gets a chance to show off.
Curious what opinion will be like around here though if he stinks up the joint considering how sour so many are on Forbort (who I personally think needs more playing time to see what we have though I can understand why Sutter doesn't want to give it to him).
It's really too bad. In his prime Ehrhoff was a top pairing D, great player. He is just done now unfortunately.

Forbort hasn't been given a full chance yet. DS has no problem giving McBain, Ehrhoff, and Schenn all the time in the world to settle in, and by the time it's all finished, he probably won't like what he sees in all 3. Will Gravel get more of a chance than Forbort? I really doubt it.
It'll be I believe $600,000 because the first $900,000 is eliminated when you are in the minors but other than that I agree with you. Rather hope someone claims him, ideally someone in the east.
DS has broken many rookies in during his time in LA and has two cups. He gave Forbort 14 games, averaging 11 minutes a game and has seen him play many times in prospect camps, training camps and in the minors. He's been given more of a chance than many other kids get to prove themselves so no, he's actually had a very fair shake and it's time for Derek Forbort to start playing up to his skill or be moved for a useable asset because after five years of development he's looking like a borderline NHLer.
I thought it was the other way...hopefully he gets claimed so it doesn't matter.

What is a Buried Contract?
Teams do not receive full cap relief when a player on a one-way NHL contract is reassigned to the American Hockey League, or is loaned to a team in another professional league.
The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.
The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000:
2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000
2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000
Up to 375k + league minimum salary can be put into minors without counting towards cap. Since league min is 575k this year up to 950k can be taken off.
So in Ehrhoffs case (his cap hit is 1.5mil iirc) he would still have a cap hit of 550k if he is assigned to ontario.
Ehrhoff was always going to be a low risk roll, the fact is NHL teams are very rarely wrong and it was pretty telling when a guy who was a pretty good #3 d-man only a couple of years ago was only able to get $1.5 mill so late in the offseason. Oh well, he will probably be the last of Dean's former Sharks that the Kings ever bring in (maybe Marleau down the road) but for the most part all the former Sharks fizzled out wearing the crown.
As for Gravel, I am excited to see how he looks, watching him in college I always thought he was a pretty solid NHL prospect. The nice thing for Gravel is the bar has been set so low by Ehrhoff, McBain, Forbort and Schultz there isn't much pressure to step in, he would have to be pretty awful to be worse than any of those guys.
