One way or another, something has gotta give for the Kings...even sending Ehrhoff down, they'd be over players as theyre trying to recall Budaj for injured Quick and Kevin Gravel to replace Ehrhoff.

I believe Budaj is an emergency recall so no other roster moves have to be made

trying just now to look for this in CBA. I think you are correct, but in order to use this, does Quick have to go on IR? Not sure, maybe not.

Only thing I can see is the 'two healthy goalies' clause but it also requires playing the previous game with less than 20

Article 50:10:

Roster Emergency Exception

.In the event that (i) a Club has Payroll Room less
than the sum of the Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and $100,000 (i.e., that Club's Averaged
Club Salary is greater than the Upper Limit minus the Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary minus
$100,000); (ii) a Player on such Club becomes unfit or unable to play (i.e., is injured, ill or
disabled and unable to perform his duties as a hockey Player) or is suspended; (iii) such Club is
unable to sign and/or Recall a Player with an Averaged Amount equal to the Minimum
Paragraph 1 NHL Salary plus $100,000 under the Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness
Exception; (iv) as a result of such Player being unfit or unable to play or suspended and the Club
having Payroll Room less than the sum of the Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and $100,000,
the Club has fewer than eighteen (18) skaters and two (2) goalies ("18 and 2") on its Playing
Roster (pursuant to Section 16.4(c)); and (v) the Club played its previous game with fewer than
18 and 2 (a "Roster Emergency"), then such Club may, beginning with the second game and
continuing with all subsequent games and without any charge to the Club's Averaged Club
Salary for the duration of such Roster Emergency, add to its Playing Roster the requisite number
of "emergency replacement" Player(s), provided, however, that (i) each such Player may not
have an Averaged Amount that is more than the then-applicable Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL
Salary plus $100,000 (e.g., $625,000 in 2012-13); and (ii) each such Player may only remain on
that Club's Active Roster during the period of the "Roster Emergency."

(i) The Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and Bonus of any Player added to the
Playing Roster pursuant to this Section shall be included in the Players'
Share.

(ii) No Club shall be limited in the number of times it may invoke the Roster
Emergency Exception in any League Year, provided that the Exception is
at all times invoked in full compliance with this Section 50.10(e).

I am still in shock

Article 50 relates to cap problems. Actually, I believe last year McBain came onto the team under this scenario?? I think the Kings played 1 game with less than 20, and then signed McBain under the plus $100,00 limit, etc., and then brought roster back to 20. The Kings are not facing cap problems now. They have the space I believe to call up Budaj. So, if they put Quick on IR, they can increase the roster size over the 23 man limit, but as of now, I haven't heard they are doing that. But, is this an Emergency Recall under Article 13.12(m), and is article 50 related to article 13 somehow, or are they two different things? Article 13 seems to say an extra goalie can be brought up and sent back down after the emergency has ended?

You know what? Simple solution--we could just paper-transaction Shore.

He's been 'sent down' but still on the trip for a day or two while we see what's up with Quick.

I thought Shore needed waivers?
If not he should go down to play a few games with higher minutes anyway

I brought up 50 because that seems like the technicality to get an 'emergency' situation without IR/proof of debilitation.

The emergency recall article you're referencing is this:

"Emergency conditions shall be established when the playing strength of
the Loaning Club, by reason of incapacitating injury or illness or by
League suspension to its Players is reduced below the level of two (2)
goalkeepers, six (6) defensemen and twelve (12) forwards. Proof of the
existence of the emergency conditions including the incapacity shall be
furnished to the Commissioner of the League upon request made by him.
"

Boldfaced the part I'm unsure of--I would imagine this is IR, but I don't know how much grey area there is. Could they just say look, Gary, Quickie got beat up the other day and we need another goalie for a day or two? I imagine they'd be much more lenient for goaltending situations but I just don't know to be honest.

Weal was the one that needed to pass thru waivers this year (I think), not Shore. Wouldn't mind if Kempe got a call up, but its doubtful.

Shore's waiver status may have changed.

Go to the chart under waiver exemption. I believe that since Shore is now at 60+ games he is now waiver eligible. He was at 34 games when the season started.

he might be penciled in at the 80 game mark? This doesn't change once a player signs at a certain age. I just don't know exactly where Shore fits on the chart. I thought he was under the 80 games requirement.

edit: he has now played 82 games, so he must be waiver eligible now.

Like, I want to say there's a simple solution here that I'm just overlooking, but the tinfoil hatter in me says something is up, since there's not a simple corresponding move if Shore is subject to waivers and emergency callup seems to not fit.

Happy to see Gravel called up. He's a kid from my hometown, a very small town in Michigan that, AFAIK, no other professional hockey players have ever come from. Hopefully he gets a shot and plays well.

If he doesn't make you proud, I will cut him

Has budaj officially been recalled? If so what am I missing cause would that not put LA over the roster limit?
At this point I am guessing someone is going on retroactive IR.

Is your user name for Anton Babchuk?

Yeah, it was that stupid thing all of us Canes fans did years back where most of us had something Babchuk related in our usernames. Most posters have since changed, but I just left it. Only reason is because when everyone started changing their user names after that, it was hard to keep track of who was who.
