The Gravel call up is clearly a message to Forbort -- if you want it you better start showing up with a lot more desire. I like this move a lot although I will be surprised if Gravel sees much if any ice time.

Not really.

Gravel deserves a call up, Forbort/Gravel are by far the Best Defenders in the minors the Kings have. Folks will be surprised by Gravel's hockey IQ, kid has that in spades.

Sutter doesn't pass up Forbort during the stretch run to gamble on Gravel who has zero games in the NHL for no reason. Deserves got nothing to do with it.

I would like to see Forbort and Gravel be the third pairing for some games. In the AHL the last couple years, the two when paired together hardly ever get scored on.

I don't think the Kings were very impressed with Forbort in his earlier action and would like to see what Gravel can do.

But the waiving of Ehrhoff almost surely means a defenseman will be added sometime before the deadline, even if it's a veteran bottom pairing guy.

That would almost imply that one of Doughty, Muzzin, AMart, McNabb, or Schenn are hurt...

Think I can wait until next pre-season to see that experiment.

I'm not impressed with Schenn. No implication from me.

except, maybe, he's already seen what Forbort can do and just wants to see what Gravel can bring before the trade deadline passes and a limit is put on call ups?

Possibly, but I doubt he has any realistic expectation to use a rookie this late in a go for it all season. Maybe if the kings had a solid top 4 but that isn't the case.

And we're approximately 2/3 through the season, so his cap hit is ~1/3 * $550 = $181k if we stick him in the minors.

Yeah well if you want to go down this road then he has already cost 1 million on the cap since he spent 2/3 with the Kings.

It's not exactly like acquiring a new player like that. Cap is calculated daily, btw, so daily he would be counting 550K/#number of days in the season.

I think it might be a combination of a few things. Depending on what happens before the trade deadline going into the playoffs we don't have much depth ready to step in. If Gravel can get a little experience during the season it's possible he would be an option should a guy or two go down during the playoffs. It sounds like the organization likes him, and Forbort was underwhelming when he was called up. Competition is good. It's also very possible one of Forbort or Gravel get traded for an upgrade on D.

Also while Sutter and DL are certainly on the same page when it comes to the team, roster decisions are ultimately up to DL and not Sutter. Could be to showcase him, could be to get him experience, could be because DL actually thinks Gravel is a better option.

I don't know what other people think, but I like Schenn a lot more then Greene, and I think DL and Sutter really value a player like him that can hit and pin guys in the defensive zone. Schenn has also showed some smarts with the puck in certain situations, he has shown he can hold on and make a play instead of panicking. He's also made mistakes, but I'd rather have Schenn then Greene any day.

In my view,
after seeing 3 Reign games live,
Gravel>>Forbort, at this time.
More physical, too.

This is going to be interesting, as Kevin could
possibly be ready now.
Probably not far away,in any case.

Dude is 6'4", mobile, and solid, all-round.
Even has a bit of Willie Mitchell-style shutdown mojo, IMO.

My prediction is that Gravel will be a King sooner or later.
I say, why not sooner?

Bob Mackenzie was talking about possibility of Ehrhoff being picked up. "Wouldn't surprise me given the contract or the term since it's so low".

Here's hopin'!

best case his full $1.5M comes off the books.
Worst case LA buries him and saves $600K, and then has him if someone gets injured

Welp, I figured Gravel was on the way eventually, but not like this.

Thanks for the first couple months, Hoff. Not so much last couple.

and he clears
