If LA can contend with Phil Danault as 2C, he would not have held us back.
Not only are they not contending, they could miss the playoffs. They're a bubble team at best.

What exactly are they contending for? They are soon to be out of the playoffs with Doughty out.If LA can contend with Phil Danault as 2C, he would not have held us back.
He was being asked to play a massive defensive role with the Habs. 60-80% of D zone starts and against the other teams best line over and over again. With the Kings, he is getting closer to 50/50 zone starts and he has a 21 goal season while still being played against the other teams best lines.
Go figure eh? He's not an offensive power type center but he had more offensive skills than our fan base gave him credit for. Reality. Anyways, we are in rebuild/youth movement mode now so I can stomach this loss.
Agreed. Danault helped get the team as far as it could go. The source of fan frustration (yes, I hereby speak for all fans) was he was placed in a role that typically demands more offence, but that's less Danault's fault than it was management's for leaving us no option. If LA can contend with Phil Danault as 2C, he would not have held us back.
Insane how people were completely discarding what Dvorak had done in the previous years, and just looked at the 20-30 games he played under Ducharme to judge the kind of player he is.
I'm not sure he's a fit with this club, but yes, I was also a little surprised how he was completely being written off due to his play under ducharme.

Even if the rebuild takes 2-3 years, Danault would still be useful as a 2-way center so I still think we should have kept him over GallagherHe was being asked to play a massive defensive role with the Habs. 60-80% of D zone starts and against the other teams best line over and over again. I agree but I was not a Danault basher. Perhaps because I've coached and managed in three sports including hockey, I have always appreciated team players and defensive prowess.Bergevin mismanaged Danault and there is no way to spin it. Danault would have not left if we valued him the same as Petry and Gallagher or at least gave him the same respect level. All we had to do was offer him $5.5M for 8 years from the get go but this "He's only worth $4M max and is a 3C" narrative was BS.
When both the GM and fans throw you under the bus, you can't blame the player for wanting out. There are fans in our herd who would criticize Bergevin for this but ignore what they said towards Danault as well.
Well that's for sure, fo so many reasons. C is more useful than W on average, taller, bigger, stronger, better IQ, better defensively, cheaper, not injured nearly as often, not a ******* whiny little *****, etc.Even if the rebuild takes 2-3 years, Danault would still be useful as a 2-way center so I still think we should have kept him over Gallagher
Smart move by Bergevin. Dvorak solid player. We actually gave up 2-2nds for Dvorak. As Canes pick be 30 or so.It's not a bad trade after all. But thanks god that the pick is a top 10 protected.
Depends how the canes do in the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs.Smart move by Bergevin. Dvorak solid player. We actually gave up 2-2nds for Dvorak. As Canes pick be 30 or so.
It was hilarious watching folks think they knew what we had in Dvorak. I fully admitted to not knowing and was willing to give him (and others) a mulligan under Ducharme. He looks really good.
Armia Dvorak Gallagher already did. Every combination of X - Dvorak - Armia has worked so far.Roy Dvorak Gallagher as our third line next year will bounce back
Yeah DVO and armia play really well togetherArmia Dvorak Gallagher already did. Every combination of X - Dvorak - Armia has worked so far.
Those three are pretty compatible, they have the same type of game and the same type of speed. It's way too pricey of a line for the actual production but at least they tend to win their shifts and keep the puck on the other side of the ice.Armia Dvorak Gallagher already did. That's definitely Dvo's role with the team, but Danault isn't in the same tier as Dvo and JGP. He's a legitimate #2. He would be wasted as a #3. Suzuki has 36 even strength points... Danault has 43. He's just too damn efficient 5v5 and on the PK to play a 3rd line role.Under MSL he feels about how he was supposed to. He looks like our Danault replacement. They do different things but fill the same lineup spot. Ideally 3rd line C who can play on the 2nd if you are bad or if there are injuries.
I hoped for more and believe he could have brought more but if he is this then the trade value wise is pretty much a wash. See JG pageau deal.

The trade in the end worked out well but there was no guarantee. If Carolina had as many injuries as Montreal there could have been a 1st overall given away. And i agree there is no point in moving Dvorak. Won't get equal value. And there are 4-5 others that are more important to unload.I think he was definitely worth an extremely low first and considering his age and contract, I have no idea how anyone (not saying that this is your case, just in general) could think the upside to trading him is higher than his worth to the team.
Since MSL, Dvorak has turned into solid player. Made a nice play on Evans goal. Next season Dvorak will put up decent numbers and could bring a Chiarot type return at trade deadline.
