Confirming what jray42 said. I came to this thread solely to see what propaganda boxcar was going to peddle to Hawks fans. No Flyers fan who didn't birth Manning or have some other form of relation with him is disappointed in this.

I am here to tell you to install plexiglass shields in front of your televisions because you *will* throw something at it after watching Captain Overaggressive pinch for the 8th time in a game when he had no business to do so in any instance.

Even moreso when it’s for 2 years. I won’t understand that contract

I get that Stan probably doesn’t want to add term with the team rebuilding but why spend the money on Kunitz, Ward and Manning when they don’t add value relative to the players they’re likely to replace. Should have sat on the cap space or chose different players.

I don’t disagree. Save that cap space for the deadline if these younger kids take off (and Toews/Saad produce), and put you in contention in the first half of the season.

Feels like they’re just making moves to make moves. Give Q some guys that he “likes what they bring”...Backup goalie and 4th line winger that have “winning pedigree” and a 7D that likes to lose fights. Feel like signings for Q. On one hand Bowman saying they want to give young guys opportunities but you know these signings are gonna play too much.

It’s clearly on the core to decide what next season will be. Schmaltz, DeBrincat, and Hinostroza will provide support, but it’s all on the core.

This is likely their biggest gut check of their recent career.

I was digging into Manning's numbers to try and figure out why they signed him. He has a positive Corsi each of the past 3 season so that is a positive but I too have seen him make bad jumps into this play and leave his team in a bad position with an odd-man rush. He seems like a player that has the tools but the toolbox is just not quite right (aka mental mistakes and things not clicking). Like I said before, I am not a fan of this signing as I think we have enough 6/7D. If he turns the corner I guess we have a trade piece but I am not highly confident that will happen.

I will say that this will have little impact long-term so that is a positive.

I would start him out with Seabrook and go from there if he is in the lineup.

56-82

Again I think a trade or two is coming and at least 1 or 2 D will be moved.

With Hossa LTIR we will have over $5mil cap space at deadline. At the moment. So I dont think adding players is a problem.

My two cents:

- I’m starting to like Ward signing but he costs way too much but the news that he will play little is good to hear (Crow news)
- Kunitz or Wingels, potato tomato, provides different skillset, rather have Wingels but Kunitz is not the problem if he plays in 4th line.
- Manning is a bum and that is on Stan, no need for him at all. I understand that they wanted to add physicality but still, rather have him not.

This is where I’m at here. I think this signing shows they expect Forsling to be in that second pairing role. If not, I expect a trade.

I think these contracts are a very thinly veiled statement that the tank is on for next year. Hope those STHers who came off the wait list to buy expensive tickets for next year appreciate it. Good luck with that.

The problem with the Hawks D is Seabrook is their best option to play with Manning. Will probably rival the Oduya-Seabrook pairing in terms of awfulness.

Oduya was broken at that point and coming off and injury so I disagree. This pairing should be better but not a lot better than the 27/7 pairing.

I’m not sold on Ward, especially after seeing what Mrazek got.

Don’t mind Kunitz if he stays on the fourth line.

Manning money and term makes little sense to me, but I’m hopeful Forsling makes us forget about him.

2.25m is too much for a replacement level player. Oesterle and Gus give you that for half the cost.
You trust those guys to Pk? And his goals per timethere were good at decent usage, only Andrew McDonald was better and should have been. Hes certainly better there than the little oesterle had to pk for the hawks and gladly Gus never touched more than a second in the scenario.

My PK group would be Keith, Rutta, Forsling, Seabrook and give Jokiharju a look.

I think that does the team no favors at all. Lessen the pressure Keith and Forsling and Manning has the set to do it.

Also odd why not Murphy? Same there I would say the less icetime in general for Seabrook the better. The less tough icetime for Keith or Forsling the better.

Manning is much below the tier of defenseman wanted but still has that Pk value.

Manning-Murphy on the first PK?

If Manning can provide that, I think he’s worth this deal. IF

Still fuming at this. Worst July 1st ever. I honestly think they should trade Kane as soon as possible and start the rebuild immediately. Next season will be another gong show. :banghead:
