This is so far from reality it's comical. The Rangers have retired 11 players numbers, 9 numbers in total because there were 2 No 9's and 2 No 11's. They do a very good job of recognizing their past.
No it's not. The Rangers had a golden era of their existence that's completely ignored. Frank Boucher won 2 Cups as a player and a 3rd as GM/coach in 1940. He won 3 of the Rangers 4 Cups and if you didn't do the research yourself there'd be no way to know who he is because nothing at the Garden even mentions he existed.
Bill Cook was basically Maurice Richard before Maurice Richard existed. Not a hint of that at the Garden.
Bryan Hextall Sr. was one the greatest goalscorers in NHL history. Not a peep of that at the Garden.
Ott Heller and Ching Johnson were two of the most feared and stalwart defensemen in the league's history but who would know it walking into the Garden.
Neil Colville won a Cup as a leader for the franchise and in the Hall of Fame, but I bet half the people even here haven't heard his name mentioned not once by the organization.
The Rangers have done an OK job at placating some people but the most successful generation in the franchise's history is completely ignored. Yet if you enter the arenas in Montreal, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, and Toroto I guarantee you can learn about the storied histories and players.
Billy overrated trash Joel has a banner hanging in the Garden for crying out loud... because he played piano man there a few times instead of the athletes that played there on a daily basis and accomplished the highest feats in the sport of hockey in their time.
Also, I love Graves, but him having his number retired before some of the names above is a joke.
