Kreider is Mr. Ranger. So many people thought he wasn't signing with the Rangers. He was staying in school for four years and was planning to bolt to the Bruins. The Rangers tried to trade him. Colorado was mentioned at the 2019 draft. The Rangers wanted Newhook or Krebs with the Avs 1st round pick. At the trading deadline in 2020.

Hopefully, Kreider can score six more goals in the next nine games. Beat Jagr's record. That guy is a Penguin.

You know somewhere Rod is smiling.

Breaking the single season goals record would go a long way toward having #20 in the rafters one day. Even getting 50 would mean he's the first homegrown Ranger to ever do it I believe. The contract was an AAV discount at the time but even with the years its already looking like a steal, and will even more so when the cap goes up in a few years.

Now lets get him a Cup and leave no doubt.

Raise your hand if you thought re-signing Kreider was a good idea.

*raises hand*

Raise your hand if you thought his contract was a bargain.

........

Didnt post here much around that time but definitely remember being open to trading him. I remember Colorado being mentioned prominently. Believe the rumored offer was something like Shane Bowers and their 1st Rounder that became Newhook. The day of the deadline it was eerily quiet and the emotions started to set in that I didn't want him to leave, then when the extension was announced i was very happy that both sides agreed on a fair deal. Having him and Mika here as the last pillars of the previous run of success was much more important then any of us realized. The 2 of them are the engine that makes the Rangers go.

Somebody on the main boards (won't mention what team he's a fan of but I think you know) said yesterday "BETTER HOPE KREIDER KEEPS SHOOTING 40%!!!" in regards to our playoff hopes.

So I actually looked and I was surprised. He's shooting 21.2% which is very f***ing healthy (and yeah, I don't think anyone believes Chris Kreider is a 55-goal scorer by nature, don't get me wrong) but also he shot 19.6% last year. It's lucky, but it's not "from another planet" lucky (see: William Karlsson shooting 23% in 17-18 following 6% the previous year).

Here's the difference: Kreider attempted 177 shots last year, rating out to 290 over 82 games. This year, he's attempted a stonking 367 shots in 73 games, rating out to 412!

That's how you have a 50 goal season.

I hate to break it to you guys, but the idiots yelling "SHOOOOOT!" really have a point tbh.

It’s wild.
I was on the fence when they were talking about trading him. I saw the wisdom (THOUGHT I did but was obviously wrong hahaha) but I have that “homegrown” sentimentality. So when they signed him I was happy about it.
Side note I’ve had people telling me Laf is a bust because he’s shooting 20% and that he will never shoot more often than he is now, in his D+2 season getting. 13 mins and no pp time, to compensate for a drop I’m percentage… because players just don’t change the rate at which they shoot. Interesting.

I've asked this before and nobody here has been able to answer it. What the hell is Chris Kreider doing standing in front of the net all the time ?

Scoring goals? :dunno:
Early in the season there were a few game day threads where there were some posters complaining all Chris Kreider does is stand in front of the net and also a few chirps about the coach wanting him to get in front of the net so as the season went on and he kept scoring I would throw in a sarcastic ....."what the hell is Chris Kreider doing in front of the net all the time but I think my sarcasm flew over everybody

I've been a fan boy and rocking my Kreider jersey since he came into the league. Can't believe this season he's having. Always criticized and rightfully so for disappearing for long stretches. His consistency this season is just shocking. If this is the new Kreider we're getting for a few years then damn. I don't expect 50 goal seasons but no reason he can't continue to be a machine on the PP. Make this man Captain for next season, he's so obviously the right choice.

I mean, the guy is my profile pic. Was definitely open to trading him, but re-signing made sense too. Always thought his game would devolve into what noted Ranger killer Jason Chimera was when Kreider got to be 34-35. Has the speed, good shot, could pot you 20. Good size and developed more of a 2 way game.

Instead he is more and more what I think the majority of fans had wanted Rick Nash to be. Use his size and skating, get to the net, and score goals.

I'm going to be very interested in his play come the playoffs. I wonder if he will be even more physical, especially throwing big hits. Could go a long way to wearing down a defense over a long series.

Before this season, I made a post saying "Kreider was my favorite NYR prospect of all time," and someone responded saying I was a weirdo and that was a strange choice. I haven't forgotten that since, and if he breaks our franchise record, I'll definitely put in the effort to get into my post history and find out who it was that chastised me that way.

I don't know how anyone would want nash to become chris kreider. Rick nash was a better regular season player altho this year has been magical. Biggest issue with rick nash is he was damaged goods but he still had 2 great seasons.

I was for signing kreider but i didnt want the contract to be as big of a cap hit as it is. I recognize that having a player with a unique skill set around the net is a commodity most teams dont have. Hes near the league lead in tip ins in past years. I dont care that kreider will score 1 goal in 15 games because he gets hot at other times, those cold streaks are the difference from him being a 40 goal scorer or a 30 goal scorer. Im amazed that hes broken through and avoided one of those long slumps and now sits at an unbelievable 49 goals.

What im most impressed with kreider this year is him actually taking a wrist shot out near the dot. He has a good shot but he never used it in past years. He scored 2 against ottawa with a wrister and hes scored like 3 or 4 others using it.

Kreider shooting more is definitely one of the biggest changes ive noticed with him. Likley kreider going to have a high shooting % because he gets tip ins and rebounds more then an ovechkin/stamkos type scorer who blast 1 timers.

Im sure the poster you are talking about is likely the dummy thats all throughout the lafrenierre thread trying to call him a bust. I skip past the posts that dummy makes and similiar bad posts.

Yeah I was pretty hardcore against the Kreider contract but luckily this place seems to expunge its archives every couple years so I might be able to get away with it
Until now, u went and told on yourself. haha.
That expunging deal, really screwed me unless somebody can find it.(my proof)

I think an important distinction was missed in that exchange.

Guys don't change the rate they shoot at of they choose not to shoot. They're pass-first players.

You can change your shooting rates if you get better.
