Hated the resigning and have disliked Kreider most of his time as a Ranger. Mainly because I watched him all the time in college and saw a guy that had the potential to take over games in a very unique way, but just chose not to.

He’s been so awesome this year. And he’s scoring in a totally different way than I would have expected all those years ago. Really glad he finally hit 30.

If you were to say six months ago that Kreider would net 30 in 43 games you'd be laughed off of this site. I don't even care at this point if it's a one-off, he has emphatically dispelled any rumors about his capacity as a first-line NHLer.

. I don’t think that’s fair. He has been a real good Ranger. Problem is fans wanted him to be a superstar and anything less was a disappointment in their eyes which I always felt was a silly way of thinking

Never said he hasn’t been a good Ranger. I said I disliked him as a Ranger, strictly because of his uncanny ability to turn it on and off in the same period, let alone a game or a season.

Probably unreasonable to an extent, but it was because I knew what he was capable of. And boom, he’s finally playing like the superstar many of us knew existed in him.

After all the abuse Kreider, and those that have supported him on site have taken, I just wanna say on everyone's behalf to our abusers, f*** you.
He deserved all that abuse for taking weeks off at a time, but I don't think you'll find a single person, including myself, who isn't in awe of the amazing season he is putting together. We all said he could be this player if he was consistent, he's doing that now and playing the best hockey of his career.

Well said! I stuck with him all this time and took so much crap for it. I feel so proud of him now.

Chris Kreider is 30 and is just about to blow past his career-best 53-point season. But something something I'm impatient that Lafreniere is blocked by Panarin and Kreider for the time being and want moar points!

. That’s BS. He didn’t take weeks off. He was simply streaky and overthinking things

The biggest thing about Kreider is that over the past few years he has really reinvented his game and this year is reaping the rewards. When Kreider came in I thought he was a guy whose biggest asset was going to be his speed and ability to come down the wing and rip a shot. Not so much a sniper, but a guy who would use his speed and size to back goalies in and create room with a quick shot mid stride. A 30/25 guy. He’s become the best net front player in the NHL and a very good penalty killer to boot. Deserves kudos for changing his game as a veteran. Sign of an intelligent and dedicated player.

One thing I'll say is I won't criticize the folks that criticized him all of these years but one criticism that stuck at my craw was people saying he has low hockey IQ. Couldn't be more wrong, one of our smarter players.

honestly my biggest issue are those who claimed he was “lazy” or “taking games off”. I think he was simply streaky and overthinking things sometimes. I also think his defensive game has really improved tremendously these past few years and I feel has helped his offense. He has also had some bad luck. Multiple time he was about to break 30 goals and he would get hurt at the worst possible time

He has always been inconsistent. I don't think it's fair to characterize him as "taking weeks off." I never saw a lack of effort from him, and I would guess the team felt the same way seeing as he's worn a letter for four years now.

its an easy thing for ppl to say when someone has talent but doesnt score 50 every year. its ridiculous, but ppl think that not playing great every night is cuz a player isnt trying...

Just my opinion, and I know others have shared it too and others didn't see it that way. Definitely don't want to starts the old Kreider debates back up again, but I felt there were stretches where it seemed like he was just going with the flow. Regardless though that's the past. Guy is playing fantastic this season and I couldn't be more happy with him. Both him and Trouba have played great this year and have emerged as the leaders of this team (something we have been waiting a long time for someone to do).

. Agreed. You can tell when a player purposely isnt trying. The reason you can tell is because it’s so obvious and does t happen that often. Perfect example is that infamous shift for Pierre Luc Dubois when he wanted out if Columbus. CK has never been lazy, inconsistent at times yes(most players are) but never lazy

I agree, this season he is playing smart hockey. He hasn’t always played smart hockey though and I can see why the low IQ commentary was prevalent. He’s finally found his niche, which is incredible. They always said power forwards hit their prime later in their careers, seems to be coming true for Kreider for sure.
