Are you sure I thought I remembered him being able to sign with another team like Schultz? (Just went and looked) Nope you're right. I didnt mention Step bc I knew he came out after his soph. Dunno why I erroneously remember that about McD. Hags was def 100% a senior in college tho so at least that comaprable works. Point is he is still developing and not at an unreasonable pace

If he hadn't signed after his junior season, he would have gone back to school and most likely hit UFA like Schultz.
 
I don't see what "brains" have to do with his current issues.

Kreider takes his game to another level when he consistently uses his physical gifts, especially his speed. Torts and the organization, along with anyone who ever watched him at BC, know this. They also know that for whatever reason he has a tendency to throttle back his play.

In order to maximize his potential, they want him to be more consistent. They want him to play harder. They want him to skate harder.

I wouldn't describe Kreiders play as "dumb" or "timid" or "cautious" or "lacking confidence".

In my opinion he looked somewhere between "complacent" and "lazy".
 
What will it take for Krieder to get called up?

Since being sent down to the Whale at the end of February, Chris Kreider has six goals in eight games.

The 25 shots that he has in eight games are the most he has had in a month, and that includes 14 games in December where he only had 21 shots and 11 games in November where he had 24 shots.

Of his six goals in the last eight games:

three have come on the power play
one came on a breakaway
FIVE came from going to the net or being around the net

Looks like the demotion worked, and lit a fire under his ass.

I dont know when hes coming up. That quote from Torts about how, and Im paraphrasing, "Kreider needs to learn a ton about being a player and a professional" spoke volumes. The way he approached the game seemed to rub Torts the wrong way for some reason. I think it goes beyond what we saw on the ice this season (which was poor enough to warrant the demotion in and of itself)
 
I'd say after a streak with a decent W/L ratio but definitely for the playoffs (if we make it)

We'll need scoring for then (again, if we make it) and Torts knows how Kreider can play in more open offensive situations

That quote really surprised me considering Kreider has been known for his dedication to improving his game. Part of me thinks there's a lot of head butting going on between Torts and management and Kreider is stuck in the middle. Management thinks he's NHL ready and Torts thinks.. whatever it is he thinks. It's just weird.

I think you hitter proverbial nail on the head .slats forced CK on the team when injuries occurred despite him kinda getting used to every day pro hockey . In turn warm and fuzzy Torts and some scared play by CK proved Torts right . torts also doesn't like being wrong and short leashed the kid and in turn caused poor scared play to snowball . Either way he's producing in the minors and this season is a train wreck anyway .

It's one good stretch in the A. Let him do it for another dozen games or so and then revisit the issue. I'd rather him stay there and learn some good habits than bring him back too early.
 
Kreider never showed effort up here consistency enough to stay up here.. please dont tell me it was torts.. torts loves effort.. look at the guys that skate for a 60mins.. like Cally, hags, step.. to me thats what its all about especially as a young player to prove yourself in the NHL.. everyone looks at points how about we look at effort.. thats why miller stayed and kreider went.. Miller trys to create offense, hits when he has the chances and most of all hustles and has poise with the puck.. all the things we thought kreider would bring coming off last years playoffs..

he will be back but sometimes you need to light a fire under someones ass to get them going, which is why hes in the ahl and trying to prove himself down there to make it back where he belongs..

absolutely love the "not at the expense of him quote" i trust the organization to make the right decision and its nice to see them want to let hims settle in a get called up when hes ready, its not like hes going to turn this team around 360 by being back, and calling him up purely to fill a spot because of injury, at this time in his career, is the wrong way to go about it. let him earn his way back onto the team as a top 9 player not a fill in.

I don't really disagree with that at all. Let Kreider get into the habit of playing the right way while he's down there, and he'll be less likely to have to go back again.
 
I'm in no need to get Kreider back into the lineup yet.

Kreider from last season? Absolutely.

The travesty that was Kreider this season? I don't want him sniffing the NHL team.

It may have had to do with teams not knowing his tendencies last season, but he was a completely different player. When he got the puck this season in the neutral zone away from the boards his hands turned to stone and he **** himself. He tried passing it every chance he got.

He was ironically the complete opposite of JT Miller in every way. Now if both of them could hit that middle ground between a timid coward and an overconfident idiot we may have struck gold twice. :laugh:
 
I think injuries were a small factor. bone chip injuries arent fun at all. Now i agree with him being sent down to the ahl. Its good to see him dominating the ahl. If he continues thsi weekend i expect him to be back next week
 
Development isn't a linear path. Torts sent Delly to the Minors and it was the right thing to do.

If Krieder was playing like Miller he'd be in NYC.

Krieder needs to watch how Hagelin uses his speed and how Nash uses his body. The kids got the tools to be a beast, he's just got to put it together at the pro level.

Actually, most everyone says had he been playing like Miller, he'd be down playing for the Whale.
 
Kreider at his worst is better than ANYONE on our bottom 6, because even if he completely sucks, he can score a goal. The guys on our bottom 6 couldn't score if someone hand placed the puck on their stick in front of an open net!

It's unfortunate but when a head coach doesn't like a guy's game and doesn't think it fits, it turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Who says the coach doesn't like him and doesn't think he fits? Does Torts not like DZ? He sent him down. Did Renney not like Callahan? Sent him down for a while. Being sent to the minors is not some horrible death sentence. Plenty of good players go down only to come back up and have solid careers. NYR couldn't afford having Miller and Kreider both in the lineup making rookie mistakes. They choose to keep Miller up because they liked what they saw in him a little more. Kreider will be back up.

While this is obviously true, the team is clearly not going to ruin or even take a risk with his development to help the team in the now.

When he's ready, he'll be here. Long term success in an organization is created with moves and a thought process like this. I'm happy they are doing what they think is right, even if it is at the expense of the here and now.

I do think he'll be back up this season.
