We shalt see soon enough and tho I'd love to see if we could finagle Newhook from them and that would have been an impossibility before tonight's unfortunate Rantanen injury, if the Avs want to make a run at a very winnable West with the Blues looking a bit vulnerable and the Stars maybe their next best opponent, maybe the Avs do blink and send us Newhook if we sweeten the deal a bit adding a bit more to just Kreider....hmmmm....Monday can't get here soon enough!!
Yikes..,....Please forget about Newhook. Even if Sakic blinks, you can count on Newhook or Byram as NOT being included in any deal.

Sakic is in an interesting position. While clearly within the Avs window and loaded with great young players, that window will be there for a while. BUT he has some of those players on GREAT deals and will need to start to spend soon and may not be able to afford them all. It does not feel like he is going to push all of his chips to the table and go all-in. But his best chances to win may be this year or next.

Sakic is in a different positoin than someone like Sweeney. I think that Boston's window is closing, despite having some excellent young players. They also have some vets that are on the other side of 30 and a fairly barren farm system. This could well be Boston's best chance. If anyone should be all in, it is him.

I don’t want to trade CK but if we are going to than Boston seems like a really shitty return. We are basically getting the 30th-31st overall pick and like you said their farm system isn’t good

I'm sorry Colorado lost Rantanen--he's a great player but that doesn't mean necessarily that I'd want to do a deal for Kreider with them. If Chris is going there they need to offer something worthwhile or they can get lost. Jost seems to have plateaued--Kaut and Bowers aren't all that exciting to me and a late 1st rounder is a late 1st rounder.

Agreed. People keep saying that we are in such a great position but I don’t really agree. Boston and Colorado both have first rounders at the very end of the round, Boston’s farm system is not good, and I have doubts Colorado will give up one of their top prospects for a rental. Still hoping Gordon and Kreider can work something out that works for both

People like good stories. Rantanen going down and Kreider going to Colorado to play on MacKinnon's line and help save the day might sound to some like a good story. Oh look--our former player won a Cup, hooray! To me as far as hockey goes the only good story ends with the Rangers winning the Cup.....and anyway I don't think Joe Sakic would be lining up to do us any favors if our roles were reversed. So I want Gorton to be a GM who sets his price and doesn't budge much off of it and if he can get a better deal elsewhere then go there and IMO I do like the size and nastiness of guys like Beecher and Frederic more than I like what I've seen out of Kaut or Bowers so far and I'm looking at Jost as something of an underachiever. With Frederic or Beecher you'd at least be adding somewhat complimentary types to Brendan Lemieux and I see value to having some jerks on our team. Just an opinion though and there might be other teams in the mix as well.

Numbers are on the table, still a pretty large gap to resolve.

Total value of the deal is a sticking point.
I'm guessing we're close to 40 and his crew is looking for 50

not gonna happen. let him go to the free market and see the schlub franchises that offer him that.

I'm one of the 'have to trade Kreider' guys, but for a team that is competitve now and will be for the next few years, signing him to a 7x7 contract would be money very well spent.

Certainly not a "schlub franchise" move to lock him up to that deal.

I dont think keeping Kreider is the worst thing in the world but Newhook from Colorado sure is tempting

Unless he is asking for crazy money I think it’s smart to keep him for a variety of reasons. Plus he isn’t old, I could understand if he were 31-32 like Nash and Zucc were but I still think he keeps himself in such great shape that he won’t break down. I’m just not convinced anybody is gonna give up a top prospect for a rental and the first we get is gonna be 29-31

Kreider's age is the main reason I wouldn't mind hanging onto him. Not that old and it's not the worst thing to keep some vets in the lineup while some prospects develop. He's a good piece and if they could get him to a reasonable deal I think it's a no brainer

Exactly. Look I was the biggest supporter of the rebuild. Hell I wanted to start the rebuild In 2016 when everyone else still wanted to go for it. However I think we have reached the point that we can’t keep selling off players especially when they are still kind of young and provided skills we can’t replace. It’s not like we are a bottom feeding team. If not for being is such a tough division we could be a playoff team. And yeah I admit I’m a fan of CK but I also accepted what. I’ve always said some fans had unfair expectations of him which I feel underrate what a good player he had been for us

Kreider's age?

That's the whole reason to trade him. If he was 27 before next year, there'd be no question about re-signing him in my mind. But he'll be 29. Those two years make a HUGE difference in the risk related to a long-term contract.

I’ve noticed that the market this year leans heavily in favor of sellers. I don’t really want to trade Kreider or some others but I think we have to sell if the price is right. Not only that, but with many of the top guys traded already, I can see a bidding war for Kreider.

I don’t really see the bidding war besides Boston and Colorado. Both have picks at the very end of the round, Boston had a bad farm system, Colorado isn’t giving up their top prospects. The Islanders are the only team I see as a possibility but I find it hard to believe we would make a huge trade with them
