One less option for teams to go after with Coleman off the block.
Combined with his recent play, the value is climbing

Rentals generally return less than non rentals. Coleman has another year, no?That is a great return for Coleman.
Looking forward to Gorton getting worse returns for all of our players.

Besides Trouba? I mean the Penguins grabbed Jason Zucker a week ago. Galchenyuk, Haula, JT Miller. The Hurricanes swooped in on Teravainen a couple years ago and got him for nothing.who are all these young, cost controlled, and talented players you people claim will become available? Can you name one realistic option?

Yea like that terrible value he got for Brassard
It was more pointing to the fact that he has made some good moves. Some people around here undervalue what he has done. They seem to think that he got poor value for rentals when in fact he has done well.Bit of an odd comparison, as Brassard wasn’t a trade deadline sale.
Don’t think anyone would argue that was a bad trade. Gorton took a gamble and it worked out.
You should also understand that Kakko Igor Chytil, Fox etc will be RFAs for a good chunk of the contract. You should also understand massive dead weight is coming off and cap penalties. You should also understand the cap should be approaching $100M.Because some of us understand there is a salary cap. You want to keep Kakko, Mika, Igor, DeAngelo, Fox in the future? Signing a 29 year old to a 7 year 7M deal prevents that. And that's assuming none of our other young players blow up like Chytil/Krav who would end up commanding a lot as well.
Of Course he has. Nobody has denied he had made some good moves. My issue is the contracts he has dished out to defensemen. Shattenkirk,Smith,Skjei,Trouba. These moves have really had serious consequences on our capIt was more pointing to the fact that he has made some good moves. Some people around here undervalue what he has done. Production wise, Kessel is great. The guy would wake in in the middle of the night and score 30. BUT he is NOT Kreider. And does not come close to bringing what Kreider does to a locker room or his style of play in the playoffs.PS: Kessel alone has been traded under those parameters TWICE in the last 5 years.
Just have to Pray that Kakko takes a big step and Kravtsov is ready for the NHL next year otherwise we’re in troubleIf you trade Kreider you have to replace him.
We already have holes.
Hoarding youth and picks without keeping talent...it's just hard to see how we can be better next season without Chris Kreider
I feel like the trading deadline arms race of the 90s and early 2000s is no longer a thing. Maybe due to the salary cap. But it looks like the market now favors guys with some term left instead of full blown rentals.
What trouble are we in?Just have to Pray that Kakko takes a big step and Kravtsov is ready for the NHL next year otherwise we’re in trouble

I am positive he takes steps forward. I am also positive that his steps forward will not be enough to replace Kreider. Not for a few years.Just have to Pray that Kakko takes a big step and Kravtsov is ready for the NHL next year otherwise we’re in trouble

But I am not sure that Gorton has ever intended on Kakko replacing Kreider in the near term.
Next year, if (fairly sizable IF), Kakko can even become a 40 point player, it would be a HUGE step up.
That trade wasn't a gamble.
He traded a 55-60 point 29 year old centre for a 45-50 point, still improving 23 year old centre and a 2nd round pick.
The trade was brilliant from the get go.
I never said it wasn’t brilliant.
However, Brassard was a better player than Zib at the time of the trade. Zib was also massively inconsistent. And a draft pick is a draft pick. It was entirely possible that he failed to improve anymore.
The trade was literally the definition of a gamble. A gamble doesn’t always have to have negative connotation.
