Hollweg was as dumb as a box of rocks, but at least he had a motor.

Bingo. He was always on the verge of a charging penalty but that guy laid it all out there every shift.

The Rangers have never gotten that out of Kreider except the hat trick he had versus Vancouver when he wanted to show up Tortorella two years ago.

The guy sissies his way out of screens and does fly byes when he should be laying the body.

When Kreider goes overboard with his physicality, he gets himself into trouble and takes bad penalties. He took a bad boarding penalty the other night in Florida.

I'm all for him using his body, but I've always felt he's had a propensity for shying away from it because he takes penalties.

Because he still hasn't figure out that you can be physical without trying to crush someone's spine.

Seriously. He'll shy away from all contact for 20 games and then hit a player right in the numbers 3 feet from the board. What the hell type of pattern is that?

I couldn't watch the game the other night. anyone have a video of the kreider mitchell pirri incident that i can see?

Kreider has shown himself to be a lot more raw than most anticipated.

Personally, I still think he puts it together and becomes dangerous (in a good way), but not elite player.

With that said, his future isn't a sure thing and the Rangers may be faced with a decision as to whether they like his upside/odds of hitting said upside better than other options.

I would be shocked if TB isn't looking at him as a component in any Drouin deal with the Rangers.

I'm hoping the competition from Megna will inspire Kreider. It seemed to me that the first game Etem got in Kreider got on his horse a little more. People have given up on him but if he goes elsewhere and gets his head on straight it's going to resonate with Rangers fans for a long long time. I'm still rooting for the guy.

I'm still rooting for Kreider and still like him, I just think we're also at a point where next season is becoming every season for him and he can never longer be viewed as a "given" for this team.

I still think he has 30 goal potential and can be a dangerous player. I just also realize that with every passing year he struggles to get 20 goals that the odds go down a little bit more.

With him turning 25, we're entering that range where we're getting close him being what he is and/or readjusting expectations.

I've said it before, Kreider needs mental maturation much more than he needs any more physical improvement. AFAIK there's no real way to speed that up outside of experiences and time. I just can't fathom him playing this timid and unengaged for the remainder of his career. But who knows? Maybe NY isn't the best environment for him for one reason or another. Maybe a trade is the only way to really "wake him up" and give him that final kick in the ass that seemingly always needs to be given to him every other week. Maybe a trade is the only way to unlock his potential/motor/consistency/whatever, and maybe it's something he never would achieve if he stays here.

Or maybe NY is the right place for him and he still just needs time to have his brain catch up with certain aspects.

I don't c him having anymore than a 20-25 goal max and 20 assists... He is who he's going to be at this point. It's not so much about consistency it's about his hands or lack of.

He also can't screen the goalie and has trouble deciding when to shoot.. those things I think he can learn but he hasn't shown any sign of improvment and why would he went he gets his consistent 2nd line mins no matter how he plays

If we trade him he will "explode" but then plateau just slightly better than he is now 25 goals max

People see this? Wow.

Vigneault says that even if Kreider is able to play v Caps on Sat, "no doubt that Megna will be in lineup."

I always felt his hockey IQ and hands were going to prevent him from being an elite player, but my general belief was this size/speed/strength combination would get him into that 30 goal range. (Which I'm not quite ready to abandon yet).

He just doesn't seem to know what to do with himself a lot of times. He's surpisingly more borderline dirty than I ever expected, but even that feels like a wasted opportunity. But when you look at the total package, trading him is a tough pill to swallow if you think he'll mature as a player. Because if he ever figures it out, he's a valuable guy to have.

He has regressed but I have zero interest in trading him. He was trending upwards his first two seasons and then took a nosedive this year. But everyone is playing like ****. That said he can be so much better but something is wrong.

The Rangers should be force feeding Miller/Kreider Montreal/Gallagher film for 2-3 hours EVERY day until they figure out what it is like to work like a SOB every shift and find that crease on every single play . Miller looks like he is getting it...Kreider I don't think understands English even though he can speak Russian... If we had one of those guys give us a Gallagher like performance...we would be in business !!!

The thing is, if we want to go anywhere in the playoffs, this year, Kreider NEEDS to be on the team. He becomes an absolute beast in the PO.

2 years ago everyone attributed our comeback vs. Pitt to MSL's Mom, etc., but it was really Kreider's return that was the catalyst and woke up the team, imo.

I'd absolutely hate it if he was moved.

He does get some clutch goals, but he only has 31 points in 60 PO games. It's not that beast. Nash has 32 points in 60 PO games, and he's evidently the worst playoff performer in the history of mankind. Yeah, Kreids get more goals and Nash more assists....but still, barely .5 ppg for Kreids. He is not the Be all End all of PO hockey.

Just sayin'.

I think Kreider plays with more of a purpose in the playoffs, but I kind of feel like his PO reputation is getting a little carried away.

I think of Mike Knuble when I consider the possible ramifications of dealing Kreider. Of course the return would be key.

really want nash moved at the deadline irregardless of where we are in the standings. he's gotta go soon.

having said that, i would not be one bit surprised if chris kreider and keith yandle were packaged in a blockbuster deal bringing back a forward and a lefty dman.

trying to get my head around not having those 3. seems tough, until you realize how bad nash and kreider have been and how valuable yandle may be to a serious contender.

if rybo and seth jones can be dealt, then anyone can.

Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie:
Vigneault says that even if Kreider is able to play v Caps on Sat, "no doubt that Megna will be in lineup."

Here's the full quote:

Coach Alain Vigneault said after practice he is very hopeful Kreider will be available for Saturday’s game against the Capitals. But Vigneault also said that Jayson Megna, who had a goal and an assist while skating with Derek Stepan and Nash in Tuesday’s 6-2 win over the visiting Stars in his Rangers’ debut after being recalled from Hartford (AHL) on Monday, would remain in the lineup

Kreider will be back in the lineup if his hand is OK. Someone else will sit for Megna.

That's okay I can live with that.

He's playing like he has the thought process of a awkward clumsy teenager... but he's not dumb.

The guy is incredibly smart... off the ice at least.

I'm more than happy with that. That's a coach treating ice time as a privilege. It's a meritocracy.

Not a hand out.

You hit the nail on the head, playing with the purpose. Not waifing through shifts for a paycheck.

I'd put Kreider on the 4th line and rebuild his game from there. Let him earn it. No more of this plugging him into the top 6 by default.

Let him go chase pucks down, throw the body, hustle and play a grinders game.

Let's see if he actually chases pucks down for a full 60 instead of that token burst of speed and then head off to the bench.

No pressure to score. Just play with some energy.

See the quote above your post--Kreider's not sitting if he can play on Saturday.

I don't think the coaching staff is upset with Fast--he at least tries every shift and is one of the top penalty killers. Stalberg (inconsistent) and Hayes (played better, but still may be in the doghouse) are more likely candidates
