Rumor: Chris Johnston: Some believe Toronto is the front runner for Ben Chiarot.

As far as the Leafs, we should know sooner than later....with Muzzin out and the fact Dubas likes to get his deals done early.

Dubas has a salary cap challenge. No doubt he is working the phones but with any move, the cap has to be addressed. Not easy to do but I'm sure he figures out something but that might take a bit.

It's a month away from the deadline. Maybe Dubas figures something out in the next week or two

Dubas likes to get his stuff done early to have time to build chemistry, with the last couple of trades he pulled with Arizona, i think he could move one of Holl/Dermott there to open up roster/cap space.

Even before Muzzin went down, I think Dubas was very active. Now with Muzzin dealing with concussion issues that may or may not linger on, he will try to make a move and maybe he gets a little more aggressive.

It takes time to call all the sellers and then go back and forth to see what makes the most sense. But the sellers are not doing any favors either cause it's 1 month away from the deadline.

Risky for sellers to wait as well, other deals may get done....or injuries to the player for sale can happen....

True and it really is a game of cat and mouse. But if the offers are low today, I think most teams wait it out like they usually do every year. Not many moves made early and a lot of it has to do with cap space and some teams still fighting for a locked in playoff spot (or higher probability).

HD shot for 44/ goal for 10
HD shot against or 63/ 8 against 0.873 % of save on high danger shot

If will give you a comparaison... during complete 2020-2021 season, the best goalie with at least 30 game played
With best HDS sv% was vasilevsky at 0.784

So yes price played like a god
Games 5/6/7 he absolutely went god mode.

Can you remember this? Back us up when Price is healthy again and we might try to trade him where we retain down to about $6M or $7M? A healthy Price is a game changer right? Habs top 4D we had last playoffs means nothing and Price was in god mode?

Be consistent and back us up if Price gets back to 100% healthy again for next season? Or are you going to hide in the shadows?

It extends to the playoffs prior to that with the Pens as well. This is about shoring up your roster vs what Chiarot is actually worth. Chiarot helps a lot of playoff teams and he's proven he can handle 23-25 min a game. He's done that again with out Weber this year and those who think Weber sheltered Chiarot don't understand. It was actually the opposite cause Weber relied on Chiaort to move the puck.

Forget about the 1st narrative cause people are distracted by that. The interest in Chiaort and what he has provided for a few seasons now is warranted. His size/physicality and the skating he has for a big man is underrated. It's far from being readily available. This is why teams have circled him but they may very well steer clear of the 1st.

Of course teams will want him. Especially if the Habs retain, you're getting a decent defensemen at a low cap hit. I'm just saying, hes become quite overrated.

Overrated and underrated varies to each person IMO. This is about teams trying to add pieces at a deadline where the price is usually higher than what you might prefer. Reality. Is this a buyers market in the end and the Habs run themselfs out of the market like the Islanders did with Vanek (2nd and Collberg)? Possible.

To be honest, I don't think many fans have watched 5-10 full games from the Habs over the last two seasons (including playoffs) but they are acting like experts on Chiarot. He really was great for us in the playoffs. The media reports and GM interested has watched him though

I’m sorry. You were outshot In almost every game last playoffs all the advanced stats show it. Just because you can’t remember it doesn’t change that. I can sit here and show you all the reasons and ways you had no business winning that series but you’d rewrite history anyways. Just like you’re trying to do with chiarot when presented with legitimate facts.

Being outshot doesn't reveal the entire picture. Habs played sound D in front of Price with a decent counter attack. But you can think that is was all Price and he is a god.

Are you going to defend us when/if Price is healthy and we want to trade him? Probably not and you completely ignored that question. ;)

Montreal Canadiens vs Toronto Maple Leafs, 20202021 Playoffs

Advanced stats also don’t take into account who is shooting the puck. The leafs lost sure, but let’s not pretend Price wasn’t absolutely the reason for it.
XGF for the series:
57% Leafs
43% Habs

They didn’t deserve to lose, but thems the breaks sometimes. Or if you’re a leaf all the time.

Price was a major factor no doubt. But I'm a firm believer that a great goalie needs a great team D and vice versa. Chiarot was a big part of that. You talk to a few Leafs players and I think they will tell you that Chiarot was very annoying to play against. Same as the Jets, and Knights and the Pens the year before.

Habs don't beat the Leafs if Tavares don't get hurt and Muzzin for game 7. Leafs are a very good team and if you can somehow shore up some of the flaws, I'm a believer. No doubt in my mind that the Leafs were the best team the Habs faced in last year's playoffs.

They may be all we have in a few years though so we'll need them. Amirov just got diagnosed with a brain tumor. So there's another one down.
Leafs need to make an impact at deadline. Only have Matthews so many years. Tampa, Boston, Florida will likely add.

I think its more that they realize he is what he is - a decent 2nd pairing guy who can eat minutes. Not someone you put on your first pair or give a first/top prospect for. Kind of a Hal Gill type.

Trade for the 35 year old Braun. I'm sure the Leafs can convince them he is not that good but they need him and it's a 2nd and 4th? Flyers play nice and don't try to get the best return and they prefer to help the Leafs right? :sarcasm:.

I actually hope the Leafs make a move for a D man (not named Chiarot). Take one guy out of the picture from the Market. Works for me
Could be Klingberg. Could be Gio. Most likey a 3rd pair guy tho

It really does depend on who is trying to add him and what hole they are trying to address. But yeah, I would consider Chiarot a good #4 guy.

The area of value is for a contender looking for an added edge. Very similar to Tampa paying the price to add Savard to ensure their team D is top notch. It worked out very well for them.

It's all about the 7 game playoff war and having a warrior on your team. He has clearly proven his value and it's the reason why there is so much talk on him. He's not worth the 1st but he is if you are a team that wants to avoid playing against them vs with him. Typical deadline stuff

There is a lot working against you in the "value of Price" game right now. 3 games of awesome play doesn't make 4 more years of Price appealing. Personal issues, knee issues, the Habs looking into other potential long term goalies.......no indication the Habs are willing to retain on Price, no indication on if/when he will be back. I might hide in the shadows until at least a few of these issues become a little clearer.

If I was the Leafs, I would not be after offense. The Leafs already have a very solid offensive team. You need warriors. Gio is a good fit if you can get him for a good price but I suspect other teams are looking at him too... even if he's 38

If Price is healthy again. The word if has a meaning and the Habs can't trade him until he is playing again with no health issues. Price was shut down for a fair amount before last years playoff run but played through the pain and did very very well. 3 games of awesome play? Do you think he was only good against the Leafs for 3 games and not for that entire playoffs? WTF?

Give me a break here. Why are you talking about health issues when I clearly said that IF PRICE IS HEALTHY AGAIN. Comprehend that a little better eh
