I can't wait to see Leafs fans claim Chiarot is a great defenseman a month from now
Weird thing to say given no NHL city is as hard on defensemen as Toronto is. This is the city that absolutely shredded Larry Murphy apart. You guys really do just make this shit up in your heads. You want reality? Go check the Leafs board. You want the harshness of Torontonians, go check the GDT after a loss. So no, you're full of it, and don't know a thing about the fanbase. Your anecdotal experience means nothing.

What a dumb player for teams to obsess over before a trade deadline
Most trade deadline deals are for players that fans aren't overly interested in. Guys like Savard fetch extra value at the deadline, for all kinds of reasons. But because their value isn't immediately apparent in stats, fans will argue about their worth.

The idea that, say, Toffoli was a significant addition to the Flames wasn't hard to swallow since you can see his goals scored the second you look him up. Energy players, depth forwards, big defensive defensemen, etc, just don't have that same immediate allure to a casual fan.

Leafs haven't traded a first round pick.
They will though. That team needs to add to compete with Tampa, Florida, Canes in playoffs.

Frank Servalli says Habs get Blake Coleman type return for Lekhonen. I think He may end up in Toronto for their first and Robertson.

They might. They have to find a player that they like and believe that it is worth it.

So Montreal is going to get a 1st and a good prospect for every guy they trade at the deadline this year?

Yeah definitely not....But maybe the equivalent of a first rounder for some. This could be a prospect that was drafted in the first round of 2021 or 2020.

Not at all. Every fanbase knows that the Habs are the worst team to make the finals, and they got extremely lucky when their first 2 opponents lost a #1C in Game 1 of their matchups.

Obviously habs fans disagreed and tried to pretend like they were a legit team that will make another strong playoff run this season, but we all know what happened next.

Why is a Montreal fan trying to troll other teams? You guys have the most embarrassing team in the NHL right now. It stings, eh?

Remove Price, Weber and Edmundson from a defensive team and it won't impact it...

Would be interested seeing ANY TEAM transition from one season to another without their #1G, #1D and a top 4D.

And a 1B Center.

No. The 1st and prospect narrative was brought forward by members of the media (not Habs fans). Is he really worth that? Probably not but it's going to be a late 1st and a B type prospect (at best) and we only get that cause several teams are in on him.

Chiarot's mobility for a big man who plays physical is underrated. They guy is proven over the last few years now and has played 23-25 min a game. Basically going to get something close to what R Macdonagh provides to the Lightning. Some people going to laugh at that but the numbers and context support it.

But if they're all worth a 1st+ then why isn't th team better?

It's disingenuous to say "they are all worth a 1st". Only a select few we are considering to trade. You know the parts of the team that helped us beat the Leafs in the last playoffs as well as the Pens the year before that and the Jets, and Knights too?

My value for Chiarot before the media came out with the 1st narrative on Chiarot was two 2nd's. Most understand who Chiarot is and the interest by several teams. He really does help a team for the playoffs cause it does get physical. And this physical type has great mobility and I don't think most understand that part of his game either.

With Muzzin out long term, that D is a mess.

I don't see the Leafs getting out of the first round with that D, even with Liubushkin

Agreed. Not sure if the Leafs trade for Chiarot but if Muzzin is out long term, it's not good for them. Can't win games with offense alone in the playoffs and the Leafs already know that.

Honestly, I hope Muzzin is not out long. I don't hate the Leafs and not sure if Chiarot fits their team but I do want all Canadian teams to do well (for a change)

You are right. But I also didn't say it was just Habs fans coming up with this.

Toffoli for a 1st+. Chiarot for a 1st+. Lehkonen for a 1st+. Pretty sure I've read Petry for a 1st+. And I know I'm missing someone else too.

And Chiarot may come close to producing like McDonough is now but he isn't worth now what McDonough got back then.

Not all Habs fans think the same and that applies to the Leafs too. You know your fan base don't all see things the same right? :sarcasm:

* Toffoli is a value contract and you would say the same if you were us.

* Chiarot was a big part of our top 4D which helped us with playoff series wins in the last two playoffs. The interest in him is legit and that's how values increase at deadlines. Reality.

* Lehkonen? Not sure what his value is. I'd be surprised we get a 1st for him.

* Petry? He returns a 1st even if he is having a down year. Habs probably consider retention ($1M max) to help the other team fit him in.

Not offended at all. It was a question. I'm wondering why, if the team is all worth 1st+, then why aren't they performing like it?

Your approach is just wrong with that statement... "The team is all worth 1st's". Only a select few we are considering to trade. Saying they are all worth 1st is very disingenuous

Yes, the city that endlessly praised and defended Dion Phaneuf is so hard on defensemen.
