A first for an unextended Chiarot is a gross overpayment.

2nd/3rd round pick, and a b level prospect is a lot more along the lines of what a deal should look like.

Chiarot is one of the top rental defensemen available. He will very likely get a first round pick.

It follows almost all trade deadlines of the past. Whether he is worth it or not is irrelevant.

I'll take a first from the Leafs for Chiarot, in return they get him for a few games during the season and 4-7 games in the playoffs.

Doug Armstrong is giving me the Ryan Miller jitters with this Chairot thing. It's like there's someone standing over his shoulder doing the Starsky & Hutch film version of Ben Stiller going "Do it. Do it. Do it." That's how he got conventionally wisdomed into the abomination Miller trade. Here the conventional wisdom is that Chairot sucks, so I guess that's an upgrade. Max I would offer for Chairot is Scandella 1-for-1 no adds not even a conditional 15th pick if they were to add 8 more rounds to the draft.

Personally I think the Leafs would be better to just promote Liljegren to the top 4 and have Dermott play with Sandin. I HATE both Chiarot and Holl as players.

Liljegren is trash defensively, he's maybe good in sheltered minutes but would get eaten alive in the playoffs.

Chiarot was the one eating top lines in the playoffs.

I mean that is just absolutely not true at all.

Arguably best rental defenseman over the past few seasons? He's not even the best rental dman on the market.

Cripes I hope not. When was the last time DA traded for a UFA and paid a premium price. We usually pick up a depth player, but not someone that costs us a 1st rounder. Jordan Leopold was really the last dman that cost us more then a mid to late pick. I can't really remember is Scandella was a UFA or not.

We haven't move a 1st for a D since Jaybo and he had a extra year and is a much better dman.

Chariot for 7 games. Won't be us. We just made our move. No rentals, they rarely work and Montreal drafts the next Roy with the pick.

If he's so bad why do the Leafs do much better controlling expected goals and scoring chances when he's on the ice than not?

I hear that Chariot might REFUSE to report to any team that hates his guts and their fans ( on HF ) think he is not worth a bag of pucks now.
Why would he, if so many posters on HF hate him and ANY COST IS TOO MUCH. The KHL will match anything with NO TAXES + free parking and nobody there is saying he is nearly finished as a hockey player and not worth a bag of pucks. He will report to any team that shows THEY WANT HIM and respect him. So all you haters on HF that post that Chairot is a bag of pucks clearly wont get him.

Because like I very clearly said, he's better than the competition he plays against in his sheltered minutes. What don't you understand?
We don't have any idea how he's going to do in the playoffs unless we play him in the playoffs. If he does well against third pairing competition in the regular season already there is no reason he shouldn't be able to translate that to the playoffs. I highly doubt current Ben Chiarot is an upgrade.

No chance now with Bush right?

I think they looked at Chiarot and said it's just not worth the ask.

Hopefully some other team pays up.

He still might get traded. He can go to the KHL after his contract expires. I suppose the Canadians can put him on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract.

Current Ben Chiarot is the same one that destroyed the Leafs and the other teams last year...and based on how the game is going tn, you can see Chiarot is clearly an upgrade on Liljegren.

There's a reason insiders are saying there's a lot of interest in Chiarot including from the leafs...you Leafs fans don't have a say here.
