I love Carlyle. Too many bridges have been burnt for him to coach this team though probably.

Sutter's kinda like Carlyle but better IMO

I don't think any bridges are burnt at all. I've seen him the press box a few times. He's still friends with most of the management staff I assume. Isn't he a pro scout or something for us currently?

Not with management but with Getzlaf and Perry. Of course I have nothing to back this up with so theres that too. I think Getz and Perry respect the hell out of Carlyle but wouldn't want to play for him again. I don't know why i feel that way, I just do

Not the greatest fan of him personally. I would prefer Green.

Oh no. No no no no NO.

How is Yeo even in the discussion? The guy is a terrible coach, he shouldn't get anywhere near the Ducks' bench.

If we're looking at Minny's old coaches, how on earth have we not talked to Torchetti yet?

I believe he is still on the TOR payroll and because he lives in San Diego, the Ducks let him attend games like a scout in order to keep a pulse on the game. I'm quite certain he does not work for the Ducks.

Not that I think he would have been strongly considered, but Benoit Groulx has been hired as the head coach for Tampa's AHL affiliate.

That's an interesting reaction to the Yeo possibility. He's one of the better options left in my opinion, whats the rub you guys have against him?

The fact that he managed to completely misuse several young talents refusing to coach to their strengths (Haula, Granlund, Niederreiter & Coyle to lesser extents), got outcoached so many times that his star players lost respect for him, and has a reputation as a guy who loses faith and resorts to primitive yelling to get his desire across when that happens?

I don't see him as bad as some of these other comments make him out to be. He did manage to drag Wild to the playoffs on consecutive years when they really should not have made it that far, and the team actually fought some decent series (barring the Hawks sweep last year). But he still seems... subpar, I believe is the right expression. Undesirable.

Lets see now...
  • Yeo is a defense-oriented, low/minimal risk kind of coach. We're a team that had massive scoring difficulties this season. This is not a match.
  • Yeo relies wholeheartedly in his unimaginative low-risk system. When said system fails, like it did in Minnesota, he fails to re-invent himself and make changes on the fly (like Bruce did). This was likely the reason for his firing, no?
  • Yeo may be the worst PP coach in the league. Our PP was ranked #1 this season and without a well functioning PP, we likely wouldn't have been a playoff team.

Running a strict system is not necessarily a bad thing, but when the coach fails to develop the system or adapt to new adversities, things usually take a turn for the worse. Yeo just doesn't strike me as a guy who'd have enough experience/insight to make those necessary adjustments. If the Ducks ended up hiring Yeo, I fear we might never score again.

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha this has to be a joke right?

just imagining them firing BB for mike yeo has me rolling. sadly, i could see the idiots in the FO doing this.

When your GM's philosophy is to acquire talented players regardless of how they may fit the team, (and then tell the coach to make it work) should you be surprised if he hires a coach with a different philosophy than the last one? Does a coaching philosophy even matter to a GM like that?

Dude, we get it. You don't like BM.

He's entitled to his opinion.

It only crosses the line when he stops contributing to the discussions, or it becomes more about the posters than the post.

Edit: I think it's a fair question from him. Does Murray have a vision of what he wants this team to be, and Boudreau just didn't fit that vision? Or does he make his decisions based on who is the best of what's available, and less on who fits the best?

To me, it's the difference between going to the grocery store with a list, and going to the grocery store when you're hungry. You still end up with food, but you may not like what you have left by the end of the week.
