I don't know. I'd be fine not doing it. But this draft, I think you can have a better value with 2 top 15 picks. I mean, the first one is still at 6th. Let,s take a regular mock draft, let say Wright, Cooley, Slaf, Nemec, Jiricek and Savoie are gone.

You will be able with the 2 picks to get 2 guys between: Korchinski, Lambert, Kemell, Nazar, Lekkerimaki, Geekie, Mintyukov, Gauthier, Kulich, Oslund.
And, I'm sure Columbus realizes this too.

Are you better and deeper with Cooley? Or with Nazar and Mintyukov?

I'm not sure if it's him or the system, but yes, he doesn't go to the boards. He's 3rd man high in both O-zone and D-zone. Rarely goes that last 15 feet or so at either end, and doesn't engage physically at all. It's stick reach all the time. He doesn't front guys, put physical pressure (trap) them or pressure anyone from behind even though he definitely has the speed to do this.

He's definitely not slow. He almost caught up to 2 players on breakaways while coming from further back. He beat his own D back & got within solid hooking/slashing distance. He has top end speed. He just doesn't use it. He spends most of his time gliding and not actually skating.

Watching him skate to get up to speed on the breakaways, you could see the kid already has pretty big quads. His starts-ups, acceleration, change of direction are all really smooth.

I thought he had a fairly strong 3rd. The whole team was a no show in first 2.

I think with Wright it's all about getting his pace up. He plays at a slow pace. The effort he put in to catch up to the breakaways is the effort he needs to put in ALL the time.

He is able to raise his level of play. He just needs to do it far more consistently, like more than 2-3 shifts a game.

You draft him & hope he "levels" up as
@Whitesnake

Have said.
His top speed is avarage, even Ludwinski has better straight line speed. Wright looks like molasse out there, he is soft on pucks and glides all the time watching the play instead of being part of this. Kid is playing with really good wingers, he has no excuse, he is watching the parade out there.

It's all about the evaluation that people have. Columbus might think that for their franchise, they need to get the No1 pick. Great player. Great marketing coup. Now, would the Habs do that with the draft being at home....

I hate that we host the draft. Hate it so much.

Definitively better with Mintyukov and Kasper since I think Kasper might end up as a pretty strong top 6 player as well, kid is so underrated. I dont think CLB do that anyway...

I would have preferred to hold it last year when we were supposed to, although I can't imagine what the scene would have been like when Mailloux was announced, or next year with Bedard.

The right play probably is to trade #1 OA, but we're not going to do it. I can already hear the crowd chanting, "Wright, Wright, Wright" ... before the pick too.

Even if the draft wasn't at home, there would be 0 chance the habs trade down 5 spots if they had the 1st overall pick.

You guys are crazy wanting to trade out of a spot where the Habs can take a great centre prospect or #1 RD for more 2nd line wingers and/or 2nd pairing defenders.
It's just musings. Need to see where we pick after the lottery anyway. We have a high chance to pick 3rd ... again.

To me its more along the lines of, hes gonna be a Monahan type 100% sure. Thats his bust level IMO.

Its a 50/50 chance that hes better than that. Not what you want in a top pick, heck, maybe not even top 10 pick, but when its a guarantee vs other players thay are nowhere near sure bets and that have questionable upside themselves, how can you not pick him?

I really wanted Coe in 2020. We didn't have a 3rd rounder, but had three 4ths. Wish we were able to trade into late 3rd to take him.
He was available for our first 4th rounder. But then the Habs traded that pick to San Jose for a pick the following year…

I know Hughes will do some of that this year because of our volume of picks but MB trading down and out constantly was annoying.

I'm gonna cry with joy when he moves up, something we did once in 10 years.

Trading up is nice... when you don't pick Tinordi with that pick.

In hindsight, both moves can be good or bad. If there isn't aplayer you feel much more strongly about than others, it doesn't make sense to do it.

Top of my head.. we did it for Tinordi and Latendresse. And we picked up a seventh for Primeau. Did I miss anyone?

If Habs do move up, I feel like we'll all be looking at each other confused, whispering to each other so no one can hear us "We can do that? Are you sure? I feel like we just cheated."

And then they'll pick Tinordi instead of Brock Nelson.

And when they don't do that and actually take the more skilled player.... then we'll really be like:
