That was a great play by VanSteelsel. He has to take the faceoff because his center was thrown out. He realizes he's probably going to lose it to Wright, so when the puck drops he ignores it, jumps around Wright and poke checks the puck to boards, wins that battle which eventually leads to a 2 on 1. No goal, but lmao.

The more I see Wright, the more it doesn't feel right.

Lol..
It's the one time ever you wish you go 2nd..
OR, you shock the world and DONT take #1 consensus..
If anyone would do it? Hughes and Gorts could..

Personally I think we get a top 6 center either way.. but Wright deeeeeefinitely makes it hard to get overly excited lol

I just don't see what makes Wright that much better than Cooley. He doesn't have the puck on his stuck enough, while Cooley has it on a string. Not that impressed by his 2-way game tonight, I feel like he could of found an extra gear on a couple of those plays. He seemed to fade into the background a bit too much tonight, and it's a big playoff game.

Mathias Brunet, is that you?

He said the same thing. He would trade the pick to Columbus for their 6th and 12th.

Of course after the lottery, some of those picks will be in different spots.

I don't know. I'd be fine not doing it. But this draft, I think you can have a better value with 2 top 15 picks. I mean, the first one is still at 6th. Let,s take a regular mock draft, let say Wright, Cooley, Slaf, Nemec, Jiricek and Savoie are gone.

You will be able with the 2 picks to get 2 guys between: Korchinski, Lambert, Kemell, Nazar, Lekkerimaki, Geekie, Mintyukov, Gauthier, Kulich, Oslund.

Slow, weak, soft. He stinked. Started to put a bit more effort at 3-0, but still was a no show.
I'm not sure if it's him or the system, but yes, he doesn't go to the boards. He's 3rd man high in both O-zone and D-zone. Rarely goes that last 15 feet or so at either end, and doesn't engage physically at all. It's stick reach all the time. He doesn't front guys, put physical pressure (trap) them or pressure anyone from behind even though he definitely has the speed to do this.

He's definitely not slow. He almost caught up to 2 players on breakaways while coming from further back. He beat his own D back & got within solid hooking/slashing distance. He has top end speed. He just doesn't use it. He spends most of his time gliding and not actually skating.

Watching him skate to get up to speed on the breakaways, you could see the kid already has pretty big quads. His starts-ups, acceleration, change of direction are all really smooth.

I thought he had a fairly strong 3rd. The whole team was a no show in first 2.

I think with Wright it's all about getting his pace up. He plays at a slow pace. The effort he put in to catch up to the breakaways is the effort he needs to put in ALL the time.

He is able to raise his level of play. He just needs to do it far more consistently, like more than 2-3 shifts a game.

You draft him & hope he "levels" up as

Or we get another Drouin. Both in effort and appearance
