This might be the first one that clarifies player won't be going to ncaa until after ages out of the whl.

Pretty good chance he's drafted this year so would be 1 more whl year then 1 ncaa before using the one benefit of ncaa, leverage to get nhl games

Perhaps his decision to do so or perhaps that's when Q wants him?
This is completely made up. Misa and McKenna are Canadian citizens (and as far as I can tell have no American parents or connection that could get them an American passport). They would come to BC or another school on a student visa that would prohibit them from working and thus receiving any NIL money.

Even for an American, any school that would have the donors/boosters necessary to give a single person $1.5M in NIL money is going to spend that money on football.

Anyone who bails on the CHL for NCAA would be doing so because either
1) they think it's better for their development and future pro career
2) they know they don't have a future pro career and want to get the best education possible to set them up post-hockey
or
3) they enjoy the student-athlete lifestyle more
Yup....sent to me by someone trying to "prove" that there's big money NIL deals to be had in college hockey; completely fake though.

Lots of silly rumors right now by some(one) trying to garner a bit of attention.

What does this mean? You think there are NHL drafted players at BC who aren't getting a full scholarship?
Yes not every single draft pick who is playing for BC is on a full ride. Plenty of drafted players all over NCAA D1 who are only getting partials athletic scholarships.

Starting next season, Division I programs can award up to 26 full-ride scholarships, and the roster limit will be 26. A school like BC will presumably utilize every single scholarship available. So there shouldn't be any players at a program like that who aren't on a full ride.

Yes I'm aware of the upcoming change but I'm talking about this year and previous.

So an undrafted overager, and a 21 year old, in a couple of months, who has 5 years in the CHL is moving.
Not really surprising,
So far this is all we’ve been seeing, 04’s committing to D1 teams. Most are mid to low level schools, but a few of committed to Hockey East schools.
Lev Katzin -2007 transfer from ushl - rookie of the week in ohl 6 points in 3 games . lot of kids leaving bchl ushl are doing fine in chl !
The difference in skill and talent level between the Guelph storm and Green Bay is large.

I have not watched Lev play or any Green Bay games, but is it possible that he is now on a higher line with more ice time in the O and that's why he is off to such a good start? USHL loves their older players.

Also could be the quality of players around him are better. He might have been in position to score at the USHL level but if the guys around him don’t have the vision, the chance may go unrewarded. He might feed guys chances to score but they don’t bury them at the USHL level. Guys might be in position more often in Guelph. It could be a whole slew of things.

This is exactly right. Zach Edey was not able to make NIL money last year as a Canadian citizen, that's just how it is. Unless the rules are going to be changed, then these guys can't make NIL money.

The only CHLer to commit to a blue blood/national power program is Daniel Hauser (2004 goalie from the Wenatchee Wild, Dub), who committed to Wisconsin.

Seems that Boston College, Boston University, North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, Denver, Wisconsin, Michigan State are doing either/both of the following when it comes to elite CHLer recruiting:

1. Waiting on clarification of when younger CHLers would be able to be released from their Standard Player Agreements to come to the NCAA

2. Quietly recruiting these elite guys and then waiting till the offseason to finalize commitments

They can earn "passive income" from things like jersey sales, and they can earn income while in Canada but such deals will never bring about the bags of cash that are dropped on American born athletes.
A NIL deal is not what is going to lure a McKenna to Michigan or any other college program.

Most high-end players are waiting until after the NHL draft to make any decisions.....

I posted this in the Misa thread, but also going to post here because there was discussion yesterday re. Colby Cohen. Yesterday, Cohen denied the rumor that Misa and BU had a "framework" in place. But today, Cohen was willing to go on the record that he had heard Misa was planning to commit to Minnesota. The rumors are all over the place, but there is clearly a lot of smoke in NCAA circles about Misa in particular.

For those who don't really know about him because he only ever had a cup of coffee in the NHL, Cohen is a college hockey color announcer for ESPN, so he's a well-known name in the NCAA.

Lev Katzin needs to score like crazy the rest of the season to get himself drafted at that size. Don’t know why he’s scored more in his first 3 games than he was scoring in the USHL. Three games is three games, so probably most of what there is to it. He probably was underachieving a little in the USHL so far this season, so that’s likely a slight regression to the mean also.

In de jure? No. De facto? Yes
exactly - USHL i think implodes more than people think . youngtown muskegon are going to leave . Then you got some really weak organization- Omaha is complete joke / chicago once the owner sold looks over and will have no access to the canada kids . NTDP team not that strong and now would guess most of top kids will be heading to CHL . Cedar rapids weak for years - ect - so you got 6-8 good organization left .

For what it's worth my "sources" which are just Chicago Steel season ticketholders I chatted with during a game, said that Misa was very actively interested in following Power, Fantilli, Celebrini and Hage on the Chicago Steel Tender -> NCAA (I had heard Michigan at the time) pathline but then he was granted Exceptional Status to the OHL which obviously saw him go that route.

So it's possible he's always had some interest in possibly playing NCAA Hockey.

Yes that was rumored at the time, Marek mentioned it back then, some thought they only gave Misa Exceptional Status to avoid losing another player to the NCAA route

Minnesota is in the mix if (A BIG IF) Misa elects not to sign an ELC with whatever team drafts him. Colby also seems to think that he might go straight into the NHL.

Wouldn't think it implodes into oblivion or irrelevance, what you may see is that they expand (heard Indianapolis is back on the table) themselves and become the new NAHL; an even older league than they are now yet still advancing a lot of players to the D-1 ranks.

big questions what happens with the NTDP team?

I commented on that earlier in this thread, as I had the same question,
I think either quality drops, and keeps going.
Or it is slowly on the way out, if it trends that, good 16-17 age players are going to CHL for a couple of years. Will depend on the amount and quality that leave, could determine NTDP fate.

USA Hockey is desperately trying to thwart OHL expansion into Muskegon and Youngstown because they know it would place the program in jeopardy. Problem is that the ownership groups may launch legal action against USA Hockey....could end up being a real mess.

USHL probably just remains the top American junior hockey league but with a player pool that looks like it did 10 years ago, so a bit fewer in terms of draft numbers and such as fewer Canadians use it to springboard to NCAA and more movement on the margins with Americans going to OHL in particular. There were 61 Americans in the OHL in 2013-14 compared to 41 this year. Probably see more of that.

CIS teams would beat CHL teams handily, you are far removed from reality if you think otherwise. NTDP will mix in a win vs NCAA teams but routinely get beat up by them. NTDP gets beat by NCAA D3 teams for Gods sake.

NCAA players would go to NHL camps if they were allowed to. The NCAA prohibits that.

My point isn't that the NCAA is a better development path, because both CHL and NCAA have their pros and cons. My point is that if you stick an NCAA team on the ice against a CHL team right now, it would not be close. Same as if you stuck the worst CHL team against the top u16 GTHL team. The CHL team would destroy them but the u16 team probably has better prospects.

Yes, they would. That Stonehill team was still made up of a bunch of D1 transfers who spent time in the BCHL, NAHL, USHL, etc. All leagues that are significantly better than junior B hockey.
A quick look at the top scoring players on Stonehill reveals that most of the top scorers weren't even that great in second tier junior leagues until they were overagers for what it is worth.

I mean there are reasons why they only won 2 games last year.

Stonehill was a D3 team pretending to be a D1 team.
