Very impressive stats and leads the league in scoring too!

Will be interesting to see whether he sticks in the UK or tries to go abroad.

Have to imagine at some point a junior team or sports agent suggests to him that he comes to North America or go over to Finland/Sweden.

Who were those brothers I recall people talking about a few years back.. They had pretty odd names.. Ocean or something?

edit: found them at the start of the thread Orca and Ocean Wiesblatt. Are these kids still on anyone's radar?

This isn't a History of Hockey thread... in fact it's the exact opposite.

I haven't read through the entire thread but I was wondering people's thoughts on who the next prodigy on defense would be? Bobby Orr being one... who qualifies as a young defender to pay attention to, that isn't simply a sleeper prospect who would eventually develop into a top blueliner?

Mentioned two years ago,

From Finland Urho Vaakainen has been talked about for almost 2 years now and he's only 14. Already playing on the u18 league.

Urho is on track, 16 year old d-man mentioned here at age 14, noticed in Finland at about age 12 - playing on basically the best under-20 team in Finland (so toughest competition for playing time, but hes doing fine)
Wuld be a disappointment if hes anything other than a high first round selection.

I have seen both boys recently. They are living in Calgary now.
Ocean is a super skilled player. He has signed with Moose Jaw Warriors.
He may play with them before this season is over. the Moose Jaw is in ninth place and is trying to enter the playoff picture. they probably want to use their experience players to qualify for a playoff position.
Orca scored a hat trick in his last game with the Bisons. But, his team lost to my cousin's team (Calgary Royals). He will enter WHL draft this May. That is the latest news I have heard so far.

Led the league in points in both leagues.

In U16 he led 3 team mates who had between 62-75 points (all of whom are age 15+), next best not on his team had 51 points in 15 games. Top scorer in the other regional division 1 was 55 points in 13 games.

In U14 he led his 2 team mates who had 70 and 79 points (one of whom still plays U12! Next best from another team was 59 points in 15 games. In the other regional division top scorer had 92 points in 16 games (who had 17 points in 9 U16 games).

U14 his PPG: 10, next best: 5.75
U16 his PPG: 5.29, next best: 4.41

Am I reading that correctly? U14 he nearly doubled the total of the next best player? That's.... Not too bad. Obviously consideration must be given to the level of talent of his peers, but still.

That is correct.

Only about 5 times in the last 10 years or so has anyone broken 100pts and he has the top two, 136 and 181.

Age-Age he is superior to any junior player in the last 20 years. He needs to bulk up a LOT, but if he can grow a bit then he could be a very good player....

NHL? unlikely but possible with the right development and route.
NHL draft? possibly with the right exposure.
GB team? Very good chance if he continues to develop.

As I mentioned previously, his stats against Brendan Perlini were better at the same age (when Brendan was over here) but Brendan took a very different route from age 11/12.

Will be interesting to see how many of these guys pan out. Now that Mcdavid's about to be drafted let's see who the next great prospect is.

Sucks to say but he didn't even look like the best '01 in the tournament.

He was just floating around the neutral zone looking for breakaways/odd man rushes. His defensive effort was skating by players and swinging his stick at the puck. Obviously he's still a child so he could still mature a lot but it really didn't look good compared to the crazy numbers he puts up.

For what it's worth, I thought the better '01 was Lewis Houston.
Here are his numbers in Scotland:
Scotland U14 (1st) 15GP 81G 18A 99PTS
Scotland U16 (7th) 8GP 13G 13A 26PTS

Wow, he is 1 only 14?!

Top CHL import pick in a few years?
