CHI Uta Hawks Acquire Aku Raty Rights to Victor Soderstrom Shea Webers Contract for 2026 5th Round Pick

Or instead of taking on a useless contract, they could use that money to spend it on capable veterans to help out the young guys. Call me crazy.
They can still do that, if they choose. There has to be room for the kids to play though. This move allows them to be choosy about who they sign, instead of being forced to sign someone.

Did Bill Wirtz come back from the dead and is now running the team? They're trying to get to the cap floor next year!? Weber $7.9M cap hit but only gets paid $1M of actual money. WTF?
Well he's been pretty active on twitter lately.

I think they will go after vets. But there's no guarantee they get who they target and this insulates them from having to spend dumb money on a guy who is just gonna take a roster spot from a kid. Then they can LTIR Weber if they need the space.

There is probably a 'longer' term plan to improve the team that they are planning for. Draft/FA signing period always has some trades it seems. Could take a decent player to relieve cap for someone and pick up a prospect that is ready for the NHL as well. Not really needing pick anymore. We are getting full as a tick on those. Unless they are a 1st perhaps but no real need for anything other than that in my eyes.

Okay, I didn't look at it with the angle that they could just LTIR the contract if they indeed did go big game hunting and were successful in landing some targets. Thank you for talking me off the ledge.

Yeah, he's got good dangles and has nice edge work.

Don't like his straight ahead speed, though.

I don't fully agree with BWC's assessment that he's Rundblad 2.0, but I acknowledge that there are similarities between the two. Though similarities between two players doesn't necessarily mean they'll turn out the same.

He's a lottery ticket. If he does well, he can potentially keep one of Lev/Rinzel down in Rockford a while longer or make Crevier into a trade chip. If he sucks, we don't lose anything, we are still miles away from the cap ceiling.
