Forsling was playing in Europe until he wasn’t. I can name a few more guys brought in that did ok in the NHL. … Pius Suter? And those 2 are only guys brought over by Chicago.

So what’s the better move,
, taking the LTIR hit (money that has to be spent) and sending a 6th (? 2% chance of being a 4th liner) while getting a look at what some feel is a decent defensive prospect.
OR
SIGNING Ryan Reeves to a 1 year 6 million dollar deal?

People I got news Chicago is not getting Marner. The following year however there is a winger in Minnesota I’d throw boat full of cash at.
But if these kids grow right I’m not even sure that is necessary.
Yeah I’d give our chances at marner at about 1%.

An element the cap complaining isn't focusing on, is media talked about it the last couple offseason and Davidson even stated it, after the Hall & Folingo trade. That the fact the Blackhawks have had so much capspace, was a bargaining point in trades against them. Some thought they should of gotten an asset back in the acquiring Hall trade, they only got him for free or some Ahl player they sent back.

I don't think KD want's Weber to get to the floor. But he helps them not have to openly clearly be desperate for capspace. And if they add enough where capspace does somehow look to be tight, they can use the LTIR system to aid that. It more likely signals another bottom of the league season though & some do not want that for next year. It is that way until many of the rebuild pieces, that only really started in 22, are aging up.

Playing around with GM mode on PuckPedia.

For next season, with Donato getting $4.5m per (overpayment), Soderblom and Crevier both at 2m per, and signing Soderstrom for 1m per, with the Hawks only calling up Korchinski, I have that roster at 12F/7D/2G and a total cap hit of $71.8m. That includes Shea Weber's cap.

The floor next season is $70.6m. Without Weber's cap hit, we would be millions below the cap floor. As it currently stands, we can still offer Marner 14m per (not that he'd necessarily sign here) and be around $9m per year below the ceiling.

It sucks to pull an Arizona type move on (not) Arizona, but it's just where this team is at. We either take a contract like Weber's, or we overpay a few big names this summer, guys who we might regret signing years down the line considering they'd likely get term.

At this point, just hope Soderstrom is an okay 3RHD filler for Lev/Rinzel and that Raty can, at bare minimum, help Rockford.

Honestly I think Soderstrom could be a useful piece. We all know defenseman take a lot longer to develop. Plus, he was rushed big time in the dumpster fire in Arizona. Look as Frosling, guy was almost out of the league when he left here. Now he's a top 3 defenseman on one of the top teams in the league.

I don't hate it. We get 2 guys who might add depth to Rockford and Shea Weber's contract actually has a little value. He's only owed $2M with a $7.8M cap hit and it provides flexibility. It keeps us from having to overpay a bum to get to the cap floor and blocking a roster spot from a potential young player.

KD can always LTIR Weber and spend the money on real players if the deal is right. And all it costs us is a 6th rounder next year.

this. only a baby man would carp about this move

Marner is staying in Toronto

Sounds like we might get Soderstrom here next season.

Marner is staying in Toronto
Probably. And if he doesn't, it certainly doesn't mean he's coming here. My point was simply that even if we went after the biggest fish we could this summer, we'd still be a good $9m or so below the cap ceiling, even after trading for Weber's cap.

Watching the interview with Davidson and (at about 7:30 in) he says this deal was more for the players than it was for the assistance reaching the cap floor.

So right or wrong, Hawks scouts seem to see something in Soderstrom and Raty. Or Weber..........

So to trade away one year of Bickel we have to giveaway TT but to eat She Webber contract which is twice as much we get junk in return? I know the apologists are gonna make up excuses like oh we gotta spend to the floor anyway bla bla bla, ok that’s fine but why not use that as leverage to get more prospects or picks? What is this a charity organization? Our GM has low IQ, no one can truly justify this stupidity.

This is entirely about Shea Weber....By the time the Hawks are contending for the Cup, Shea Weber will have had a complete back transplant and will return to the ice to put the Hawks over the top:)
