Hawks adding some toughness. This is a small shift in philosophy for them. 4th line role player at a decent cap hit. If you are going to sign 4th line players. This is the contract you want to see. I don't dislike this deal. He can still skate and hit.

Ugh.

Joel Quenneville does not need any more useless toys to play ahead of prospects with higher ceilings.

He would be a 13 forward and either playing less than 8 minutes a game or mostly sitting in the press box. You can't have prospects playing 5-8 minutes or sitting in the Press Box they need to be playing significant minutes in Rockford. Schmaultz (sp) or Motte are the only two that would probably stick for Rookies

I think you nailed it. For young prospects they are better off playing 20 minutes in AHL. Tootoo is willing to sit in the pressbox or play minor minutes and it doesn't impact his career. He's already reached his ceiling. If Q can get him to avoid dumb penalties, Tootoo is a good energy guy and does bring a little toughness. Frankly I liked him on the Wings but Babcock never used him

People react to this like they signed him for seven years at $7,000,000 per. I suggest people advance an alternative—what should they have done? It seems to me that fans of every team are always saying their coach doesn't given enough ice time to prospects. My guess is that if every coach in the NHL is doing that, there's probably a real reason for it. One that crosses my mind is that you want "higher ceiling" prospects to come into the NHL at the right time so as to not wreck their confidence. Another is that a "higher ceiling" prospect probably doesn't play the same role as Tootoo, and if the open spot on your roster is for that role, you're better off having a "higher ceiling" prospect fill in on the third line when a forward is injured.

That could be me talking garbage, though. I don't really know the nature of Chicago's prospects because I feel creepy when people younger than me play hockey. Jaromir Jagr is the only player I acknowledge.

I was at the bar one time about 6-7 years ago and he was walking around asking people if they had a problem. I said, "nah, I know who you are." I'm way too good looking to be fighting.
