If his game warrants a move-up, it would be short-sighted to screw over your franchise player to slide his contract. In a couple of years we'll be asking him to sign an RFA paper, any previous antics might come back haunting.

I’d rather him finish this season developing on a good team like the Checkers, getting playoff experience, and then coming in next season ready.

Yes. But at the same time another high pick Svech is playing at 18, plentiful penalties and whatnot not threatening his roster spot. Two slides that rob money from him might be hard and unfair to stomach for Necas in the circumstances.

It may be better to have him due for his first contract after his d+4 rather than d+5 year. They could get him locked down to a pastrnak type bargain more easily.

It's the expansion draft that hurts...but after spending months furiously speculating in 2017 no team was seriously hurt by a tribute to vegas.

Another thing to take into consideration in extending people is that there is the potential lockout season coming in 2020-21 or 2022-23. Which one we'll know by September 2019 when the deadlines to terminate the CBA expire. Lockout protections and poorly timed offered terms may become an issue, because I wouldn't expect anyone wants their SPC to end right before the lockout. Unless someone is sure of himself and plans to go to lit up KHL to get a nice offer sheet as an RFA.

Should Necas slide this season, his contract will end in 2022.

If Necas keeps it up, they should bring him up. Two more points with a minute left in the 2nd against Toronto. Checkers up 4-0. I really wish everyone would stop worrying about an expansion draft so far away when this team will look completely different by then.

I know the expansion draft isn't always factored in, but I've seen in many articles that teams are much more concerned about this deadline typically, so that might be a good idea.

Pastrnak often ends up falling after a rocket one timer and he's one of the best in the league at those, he tries to get his body in a position in order to get the most power/accuracy on the shot, looks a bit awkward at times but it works

In my opinion, the next call up, if we're going to play him in a scoring role, is Aleksi Saarela. 4 goals and 9 points in his last 10 games. I'd think the team would like to see what they have there as he'd also be a valid trade chip in any larger deal the Canes make.
