Are you crazy? Jimmy Butler is the only reason his team had an outside shot at a championship. Who else should have taken that shot?
To think, the Sixers chose Ben f***ing Simmons over Jimmy Butler. Butler had repeatedly said he wishes he was still on the team with Embiid, and those two would literally be unstoppable in the East.

Instead, they chose Ben f***ing Simmons

I thought it was a bad decision and I was surprised to see him take that shot. He would have gotten free throws because he was going to get fouled.

I don’t know what to think of Atkinson but I’m hopeful and optimistic about the hire. From the little I’ve read, our defense should at least be much better than it has been the last 2 years. I liked D’Antoni but one of my concerns with him was defense too so hopefully this guy is the real deal in that regard.

Given the defense was completely non-existent all last season, except for a few games they won - imagine that! - (both home games vs Milwaukee), the bar is set low and any improvement will be vast compared to what we're use to. For old dudes like me who grew up with Dennis Rodman and Charles Oakley types of defense, I have come to terms that defense is optional at best in today's league. Atkinson did help turn the Nets into a playoff team post-Garnett/Pierce failure and before Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. So, there's that.

MDA teams play no defense at all, his Suns teams were fun to watch but they never got it done in the playoffs.

The hire is, okay I suppose?

For as much bitching as we do about NHL refs, NBA refs are worse and have been for a long time. Warriors player completely moonwalks with the ball in front of ref, no travel call, Celtics player flops foul on Warriors, etc.

Credit to the Warriors man, such an incredible run the last 8 years from them with this title being the most impressive. Also they're adding a recent #2 overall pick who has HUGE upside at C in Wiseman next year. After Durant left and the last few bad seasons nobody thought they'd be here this year. Wiggins' emergence after being shipped out of Minnesota is such an awesome story. Now let's go Hornets, win this draft we have 2 pretty high picks.

Missing a travel is like missing offsides or icing, which we see regularly in the NHL. Flops/dives resulting in penalties is common too (looking at you Boston Divers). The difference that makes the NHL far worse is when a guy gets an elbow to the head, gets knocked out of the game and concussed or severely injured, and the hitter doesn't even get a 2 min penalty (remember Zads on TT last year when the puck wasn't even near them, amongst countless other examples). Missing a couple fouls and travels in a 200-240pt combined game may sway things slightly, but rarely are the players livelihoods at stake as a result. A 1-2 goal difference in the NHL can completely determine a game, a 5-10 pt swing in the NBA may not even be a dent in the total score.

traveling
palming of ball

are essentially non-existent versus years ago when it was closely monitored. It's part of why guards are so much more important in today's NBA.

Atkinson decided he’d rather stay with the Warriors as the top assistant rather than be the head coach for the Hornets.

That’s something.

I preferred D’Antoni so hopefully he’s the next man up. Kenny A is a douche for pulling this crap but whatever.

Sometimes you almost have to wonder if the Hornets are intentionally trying to avoid being competitive

It’s almost like they took this out of the Hurricanes old school playbook, like when the Canes brought Maurice back for a 2nd stint
