So, what's the point?

He was mismanaged because he got hurt?

I don't think Charlie was ever as good as he was perceived to be at his peak. But now it seems some posters here are making him out to be much worse than he really is.

And I don't see why one would think, at age 27, he won't get any better.

It use to be said back in the day that defensemen didn't hit their prime until around 28/29 years of age. So there is still an outside chance for improvement and maybe this tournament can be a catalyst. You are correct, he is not as bad as some want to think. While McAvoy has not lived up to expectations, he is at worst a solid number 2 defenseman.

Felger just said that he thinks the Four Nations has exposed Mcavoy and that now the rest of the league sees that he’s not that good. I know a lot of people like to poo on Felger, but I’m sure he’s right.
I take it Mcavoys been less than stellar in the 4N? Shocking.

It didn't take the Four Nations to show that McAvoy has been struggling, it's been evident for a while. I am hoping that this experience and exposure against tougher competition McAvoy is getting in the Four Nations Tourney will have the same effect on him as the World Cup of Hockey did on Marchand back in 2016. Hopefully, he has a new found confidence when he returns to playing games against lesser talent.

I have been an advocate for trading McAvoy. That said, he was the 2nd best Dman after Werenski last night. Made a number of solid plays in his own zone last night
and took a beating a couple of times.

Again, I just find the show an entertaining listen. I just think he’s right often times and it upsets people because he is. I also like Maz and Big Jim Murray. Murray seems to be the only actual Bruins fan.

Yeah, Felgers not a hockey guy, I think it might be his fifth sport. I usually listen for an hour or so per day. Felger was gone until today. Yesterday was 90% Alex Bregman which Mazz is high on. Anyways, I listen and enjoy. I don’t base my opinions on the show.

Sounds like Felger has a bone to pick with Charlie. IMO he’s the best the Americans have on the right side and he’s being paired with Werenski who’s their best left side defenseman.

If I’m Sullivans though, I find a way to get Jake Sanderson in the line- up. I’m not a big fan of Fox, but he’s one of 3 right side d-man so I guess he draws in.

I’ve been reading he’s sucked for 2 years so even though I don’t agree I defer to the Bruins fans who watch this more closely then myself

Unfortunately everyone from the team President to GM to players is not good at their job so any trade of McAvoy will be a bad one

Maybe we will get a new GM who’s fantastic and he can rebuild the team

I do not think CM has been 'right' for roughly two years. Besides that, I am not a huge fan, and think is in the middle to lower tier of number one d.
It is interesting to see his performance on an actual quick and good team though.
My strong suspicion is he and yes Carlo would be better on a quicker team. How much better is the question.

He's a good player. Not perfect, but he's good. You should be able to win building around him (and Pastrnak, Swayman (prolly)). Sure I've love to have Q Hughes or Makar or Heiskanen but there are numerous teams and fan bases out there that would love to upgrade to McAvoy.

To me, it comes down to what the GM is putting in place around these guys. If they have imperfections or need to play next to a player with qualities that balance their style, it's up to the GM to make that happen. Of course it is helping exactly 0 that Lindholm has been out so long.

All I know is: if the Bruins lost McAvoy they would probably set about a multi-year journey to find a replacement that is at his level, nevermind better. That is not to say that he can't improve his consistency and big game performance or that the overall design of the Bruins defense doesn't need to improve. But McAvoy just is not very high on my list of problems that the Bruins need to solve.
