If this season has not been a wakeup call for ownership, and they actually think this team can do much next season, then they are deluded. We could even sign someone like Rantanen and I don't think that will move the needle all that much. What they really need is more out of Beniers. That and Wright continuing to improve over the next season as he has this one.

I agree with the bold part.

Though, they also wanted to win now this season and gave Francis the check book to sign Stephenson and Montour to their contracts.

I guess I'll believe it when I see it.

Teams we play after the break before the TDL:

Panthers
Lightning
Blues
Canucks
Wild
Predators

Maybe we win two of these games.
"The Seattle Krakens are on a 4 game win streak after coming back from the break, sources say ownership is pressuring GMRF to load up in the hopes to make a playoff run and see this as the start of their bubble hopes after a rocky start"

I don't like your sense of humor.

Oh wait. It's a reverse jinx. I love your seriousness about this serious matter.

Seems like teams have been calling the Kraken about McCann and not Seattle making him available.

Also, according to rumors, the teams most interested are Vancouver and Washington.

I don't really see much of those team sthat would interest me in trading McCann.
The Caps haven't got too much on the prospects side and I don't think we'll trade McCann to Vancouver, with him probably also not being interested to got there.

Caps have Cristall. But I really doubt they would be interested in trading him for McCann. Quite a dream though if we can get Cristall and Catton together .. oof.

I would guess that Cristall's stock is not too high for it. He's a dominant junior player, but he was already looking on the verge of that in his draft year, when the whole league passed on him in the first round.

Passed on him because of his "defensive issues" and "attitude issues" along with some skating concerns. And yet he's been 2PPG since his draft year, was PPG as a 16/17yo, and since moving to Spokane where he has more than like, exactly one player to pass to (that Kelowna team was beyond awful) is now at **3PPG**. I had him late 1st early 2nd in his draft year but he could have easily been top 15 in talent and skill.

Washington's been pretty good at picking up guys and rehabing them into productive players. I think it'll probably be similar with Cristall but who knows. He's still a long ways away from hitting the NHL, same as Catton.

Must win game for Canada. To say the least, feelings are running very high up here. In fact, I would say not since 1972 and 2010 have Canadians felt this kind of intensely about a hockey tournament. But I hope Kakko does well (though not so well that he beats us).

Do we actually want to "look like a real team" at this point of the season?

I mean, not looking like one might actually be the best way forward in order to secure a very high pick and add another interesting prospect.
Whether we want to or not is irrelevant, the team will play however they can. Usually players try pretty hard. I don't think Eberle will actually change much but I do think that we shouldn't have a team that just fundamentally gives up on the season. We're playing well below where we should be, that's mostly the concern I have. I would absolutely love to get McKenna (and to a lesser degree Hagens/Schaefer/Misa/Mrtka) but with how bad other teams in the league are I'm not quite sure that's a viable option. I also think that the difference between 2-5 isn't that big in most drafts. In the really good ones you'll have a better top end but for the most part the top 5 are all fairly similar except for the occasional stand out at #1. I think the next two drafts will be like this, with Schaefer/Hagens/Misa/Martone/Mrtka all being very close and with McKenna/Bjork/Stenberg/Roobroeck being the same (ish). I would hope though that we don't need to get another high draft pick and that Wright and Beniers step up.

I'm all for stocking the cupboard as well, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen. I'll be happy if we're even able to get rid of Gourde. I'd be very happy if we were able to draft high, and it's not like i'm particularly attached to any of our veterans, but I just don't see a full firesale/rebuild happening. I am also somewhat wary of how other rebuilding teams have gone- I think it's very important to not just sell off the whole team and let rookies stew, develop, and come in to a team that's hungry and wants to win, with a clear goal to do so.

I'd be surprised if we don't continue to accumulate and stock the cupboards - you talk as if this team hasn't had 9 2nd rounders in the last three drafts. They have been rebuilding to some extent for a while now.

Gourde unfortunately had a sports hernia issue that perhaps had been bothering him for a while, but he is likely fully recovered from surgery not long after the break. If he looks good he'll fetch a late 1st, if he is okay but skating well he'll at minimum get us another 2nd rounder. His playoff pedigree is worth a lot.

No, what I'm talking about is firesale territory. Selling off all the vets and icing a garbage roster. Much like Chicago, Arizona, Buffalo, Pittsburgh etc have done in the past. I don't think we're going to do that and we haven't. Rebuilding, yes obviously. But we still have lots of guys that we could probably let go for more picks or young guys. Not saying we should, just that we could.

Someone on the Jackets board just suggested that a reasonable trade to get both McCann and Bjorkstrand from Seattle would be

Luca Del Bel Belluz
Luca Marrelli
Luca Pinelli
2025 1st round pick originally from Minnesota

It does seem in the ballpark on value (LDBB is especially valuable). Though I don't think the Jackets should target McCann and I'm not sure the Kraken are actually serious about trading him this early. I think they're just listening. Mostly I'm sharing this here because it's hilarious to see three Luca's names together in a serious proposal.

I'm in agreement - I'd like us to sell a little more aggressively than we have been but not too far, for all the reasons you mentioned.

I just bring up the 9 2nd rounders as often as possible because HF seems completely unaware of all the picks Seattle has made.
