Probably Timo Meier’s value and contract would be a benchmark.
Both have 0,77 PPG last 3 seasons; the same age and status at the signing moment.
Young NHL ready player, couple of B-prospects, cap dump and conditional 1st.
In terms of new contract salary - Meier had a better production in last 3 seasons before signing though.
But you should consider cap rise, and Manitoba as not a lovely place for modern players. Tbh I don’t know taxes in Manitoba. But if he stays in Jets it would be 9+ per year

I predict he gets traded to Philly for a lot this off-season and signs a ludicrous contract. But I see prospects and picks going Winnipeg's way.
I think he's awesome and love having him on the Jets, but something tells me he dislikes playing here. He's also an RFA and his girlfriend is from California, on her TikToks she pretty much complains about the weather such as so cold that garages won't open.

VIlardi stayed in Winnipeg over the break. I see him re-signing for about 7 x 7m or slightly more...50m over 7 years.

Well, that was a rough choice. For anyone reading this who is not on the prairies, it hasn’t really been above -20 Celsius in Winnipeg for over a week (lots of -30 worse), he’s probably sick of the weather already.

I dont' see a near-PPG winger entering his prime in this increasing market signing for less than 8.5
Vikardi definitely increased his value from a guy who was set to get paid in the 6's to a guy who is set to get paid in the 7's. How much of an effect the projected cap rising has will determine if it gets any higher than that.
To me 7.5x8 is the right number, but I don't see the Jets wanting to go to arbitration either. Just depends how willing each side is to squeeze.

1) philly is rebuilding, they won't give up prospects for a 26 year old winger
2) jets are trying to win, they won't trade vilardi for prospects/picks
3) it's weird that someone dislikes winnipeg so much they decided to stay in winnipeg during the 4 nations break...

I disagree on your assessment of Philly. They've been "rebuilding" for a long time, but have actually been trying to compete. Vilardi is likely just entering his prime. He's clearly a larger forward who took time to develop. Vilardi would look great alongside Konecny, Michkov and Tippett. Picking up Vilardi and then getting a high end defender would transform the Flyers.

they just hired briere in 2023 who said they were going into a rebuild, I really doubt they feel they've done enough in those 2 years to trade their young assets for a 26 year old winger...
this is all a moot point anyways as there is no reason for the jets to trade him for prospects/picks anyways

-Mentioned in a recent article that he's "found a home" playing with Scheifele and Connor and how he was never given the chance/saw himself as a 1st line player until now.

If he stays in Winnipeg for less than 8.5 M I think that's a win for the jets. Seems like wishful thinking for jets fans thinking he will go for anything less than 8M. The Timo Meier contract and situation that was brought up is a very good comparable. Maybe Roope Hintz situation/contract is similar although Hintz had a lot more production than Vilardi. Ironically, the contract might end up being similar to PLD's adjusted for the rising cap.
I think what we are seeing is that there are many teams willing to offer him 9M+ and paying the 1st, 2nd, 3rd for him if need be. Even good teams with cap space going into next year like the Capitals and Panthers can potentially put the Jets in a bind if negotiations don't go well between Vilardi and Jets.

Philly needs more centers not wingers. I know vilardi has played some center but is mostly a winger. He also doesn’t have orange hair or hit and play a gritty style so I don’t see Philly interested but Philly always makes questionable moves.
There is no evidence of this. Both signed fair deals at the time and they signed fair deals as UFAs. Neither has ever said a word publicly regarding this matter. Chevy will no doubt try to keep an internal ceiling to keep salaries in line, but it will have nothing to do with Scheifele and Helly.

Mark seemed less happy after the bigger contracts were signed.
We fluked out.
Mark signed fairly early in the summer for his contract and then other comparable players got a lot more after him.
Then Blake got a lot more.

Not to de-rail the thread but internal salary cap arguments are going to be a ***** when it comes to trades and signings going forward with such high ceilings year after year.
Every team is totally justified by saying you cant make more than so and so, Sheifele and Helle in this example, to the point even some Gabe Vilardi's are going to foolishly break free over the next few years until some egos are put aside.
What do you mean, seemed less happy? Based on what?

He already looks great alongside Scheifele and Connor. Why change when you’re already a fit with built in chemistry? Jets management won’t undervalue him.

Maybe not Philly, but the reason I see Philly is because they are known to make random moves due to the desire to play there due to the fact every away city is so close to them as opposed to Winnipeg where the nearest away cities are Minnesota, Calgary and Toronto. But where I could see Vilardi ending up if not Winnipeg is probably San Jose.
The Jets are trying to win, but the players don't always want to stay there. And my most unpopular opinion is that I like that because it makes for big trades and retooling, where Winnipeg is really good at developing prospects and players. Like, you draft Andrew Copp in the fourth round and you turn him into Morgan Barron, Elias Salomonsson, Brad Lambert and Thomas Milic. And we could use Andrew Copp as he's a super effective player, but trading Vilardi would likely do that same thing. Barron has filled more than a void Andrew Copp left, Salomonsson is looking like he's going to be one of our to defensemen, Brad Lambert is a sick prospect, and Thomas Milic is a great goaltending prospect who I personally believe will crack the NHL line-up full-time, maybe not with the Jets though considering by the time he hits his prime Hellebuyck will possibly be in his expected final years in the NHL.
I hope Vilardi stays though because Connor-Scheifele-Vilardi may just be the best line in the NHL and I could see that for years to come.

Except once players play in Winnipeg there really isn't this fictional large amount that won't stay. There have been some, but a majority of teams also have players not looking to re-sign where they are for a variety of reasons.
If there is an issue, it's with players with NTC and NMC using them to not be traded to Winnipeg, or UFA's not signing there, but missing out on UFA's is more often a blessing in disguise, and trading for players with NMC's isn't the only way to build a roster.
Regarding Vilardi, the Jets will know his intentions this summer.
