Side note: I didn't realize Justin Williams scored 24 goals this season. Hmmph. Goals are overrated.

Let's Williams go, trades three young assets for Lucic, loses Lucic as a UFA, Lombardi left with nothing, so he goes and signs Purcell on day one on July 1, 2016.

The past two summers were a series of bad decisions.

Can't believe in Friedman's thoughts they mentioned trying to keep Bishop.

Seriously? Were they going to trade Quick or not care about the cap again?

That's banking on too much hope on a prospect. Palat is a proven player. Kubalik, while I'd like to see him given a chance, could also wind up being another Oscar Moller, Tomas Vlasak or Jaroslav Bednar.

Very true which is why I'd rather bring him in and take it from there.... I don't think we move any Dmen until we see them in action with a new system in place.,,

I for one would think the following is not only possible but a fair expectation
30+ goals... Carter and Toffoli
20+ goals... Kopitar, Pearson and Gaborik*(health permitting)
10+ goals... Lewis, Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, Kempe, Brodzinski, Dowd and Brown

That alone outpaces this season and puts us in the playoffs as our ga/gf was 199/201... so I'm sure you guys can figure out the rest, this team is atleast a PO caliber team

The past two summers were a series of bad decisions.

Williams got a 2 year deal, for about the same number per year as Kopitar's raise, and it was the 2nd year when Kopitar needed to be signed. If there was a better deal out there for Jones, I'm guessing Lombardi would've taken it. Miller, still hasn't been a top 4 guy for Boston. Got Lucic to try one more time while Kopitar was still on his previous contract, and they were good enough to be in the race for the division, and held that destiny in their own hands.

It was a win now situation, and they didn't. They weren't bad decisions, they were bad outcomes. It was trying to win when they could, before Kopitar, and Toffoli, and Pearson, and soon Doughty, all have exploding contracts.

The decision lacked foresight. If you're going to give that much up for Lucic, you better have him locked up. Same happened with Sekera. Wasted assets on nonconsequential rentals like Versteeg and Bishop.

That's not good or wise asset management.

could you see them signing Bishop and trading Quick...stranger things have happened.
not outrageous, got bishop for a song and now have quick to turn into assets.

So you and people like yourself are angry/mad/disappointed that coming off of Cup our GM saw the window still open and went for broke??? Well sir, wtf did you him to do??? stand pat and take heat for making move for players that perfectly fit our system??

Voynov gets himself deported and devastates the Kings defensive corps who lack anyone in the system to replace him, so DL does the best thing possible and trades for the best Dman available but unfortunately he gets hurts and we miss out on the POs..

Brownie's play dipped and was unsuitable for playing alongside Kopitar so DL traded for a guy who was the definition of an LA Kings player in Lucic. He did well for us and we got blasted in the POs..

That about sum up his oh so terrible deals??? Someone already broke down the trades pretty well so no need to do it again but we maximized our assets and turned them into difference makers and thats what you expect from your FO....

It's reasons like this, possibly along with extending Sutter that got Lombardi his pink slip. Loyalty is blamed for his downfall, but I think his error was ignoring facts and making inaccurate valuations. It's understood that there are things that hurt the organization that were beyond his control or not easily foreseeable (Brown, Voynov) but I think he was judged by the player and coach deals that were within his control.

We learn best from our failures. Dean knew how to build a contender. This experience will help him learn to maintain a contender.

Attacks are getting personal not about the post.
We are all emotional right now after 3 years in mediocrity after the 3 best years our team has ever had.
But stop going at each other and go after the post itself.

I understood the Bishop trade at the deadline because we didn't give up much for him, and our game plan was to try to win games by 1 goal and couldn't risk losing games with Budaj burned out as the backup. But to resign him? That is crazy. He would want at least $4-5 million to resign (if not more). That money is better spent on a top 6 forward. If DL entered into that type of contract, he would be insane.

The only way it would make sense would be to sign Bishop and trade Quick, but Quick is a much better goalie than Bishop and both goalies have injury history. Don't see the logic in that.

So Blake's first two actions as GM is getting rid of Davis Payne, who was the offensive assistant coach for a league worst offense, and hiring Futa as Assistant GM

So far so Good, in my opinion.

Agreed, I have a mountain of concerns about Blake, but I'm solidly behind these two decisions

What do we think of Bob Hartley? Blake's coach in Colorado when they won the cup and currently unemployed I believe.

Clown shoe.

Marc Crawford won a Cup with that great collection of talent as well.

I like Gallant, Stevens and Stothers but, to be fair, I love former tough guys in coaching positions and Gallant and Stothers fit the bill there.

I would not be surprised if Stevens was an ear for the players when they had a Sutter issue. Some look at him as more of the same but I don't think that is the case. Don't think anyone was calling him a Sutter clone when he was coaching Philly. Would not be a horrible idea to have a little continuity behind the bench via a guy who was here during the glory days.

Stothers brings that continuity with coaching the upcoming youth in Manch/Ontario while also--I assume--having a working relationship in place with Blake.

Stevens has coached a team to the ECF while also taking the Calder Cup during the stacked lockout season. Stothers has a Calder under his belt and Gallant has two QMJHL titles and a Memorial Cup.

Nice accomplishments for all of them. Like Futa, Stevens seems like the easy move but they may want a completely fresh take behind the bench. Since Stothers doesn't have NHL experience, I think he's out.

I'm fine with any of the three, but I think Stevens will wind up getting it.

Gonna say it one more time: Versteeg ended up back on an NHL team essentially on accident. He was Europe bound, but due to insurance issues, couldn't go, attended EDM for a PTO and signed with Calgary. Blaming DL for that is hilarious.

Yes, props to him for making the most of his opportunity, and I thought he was good here, but the guy went through the UFA market untouched and then some.

DL was famous for dumpster diving, Versteeg would have been a very solid dive, he really didn't look that bad in his time here so I'm not sure why he wouldn't at least give him Purcell money.

If Tippett becomes available, it will be him. He goes back a long way with Luc and Blake, and I believe Luc really respects him. Bank on this.

Available when? In four years? He just signed a 5-year contract ext in May/16.

Love all 3, and Tippett, if available. Think Tippett would be a great fit.

But Blake said yesterday he prefers a coach with NHL experience. Now I read that as head coach, but maybe that's not what he meant, maybe he'd include Stevens or another good Ass't NHL coach

“Now, that being said, if we look elsewhere and there’s a guy who comes in and totally blows you away in an interview, yeah, you would look at him. I just think, based on where we are with our core and everything, a person with past NHL experience can help guide this team.

“That’s my feeling right now, but that could change.”
