I know its a dangerous precedent the Kings have set by letting coaches go based on the players' opinions, but the only way I would be open to hiring John Stevens would be if the players were actually on board with the decision. If the players think he is Sutter 2.0, then why bother hiring him as the head coach? Next season will simply be the same old same old.

If the players think highly of Stevens, he would be my no. 1 choice. I know we need to make some big moves to be a playoff team again, but our play was not horrible this season. We were amazing defensively and had strong puck possession, which are very very important qualities to be a Stanley Cup contender. We simply could not score. If Stevens can keep our defense in tact, but has a proposal on how to improve our offense, I would take him over an unknown candidate who may destroy something built since 2012.

I would hire Nina Hartley before Bob Hartley. Not impressed with him.

Nina's had a much longer shelf life, that's for sure.

As for Tippet...are we sure he's still good? Not saying he isn't a good coach, but I know we all had a love affair with him while a Kings assistant due to the special teams numbers.

Good in Dallas and respectable in Arizona but, man, he's like tenured there and it doesn't seem to matter if they are successful or not. How hungry is this guy to win if he keeps staying in the giant cluster-F that is the Coyotes situation?

Not only that, but he was also promoted when signing that extension. I just don't get how so many want Tippet. I wouldn't even consider him. Kings need fresh, hungry blood, not some stagnant coach that has 1 playoff appearance in the last 7 years. Tippet is completely irrelevant to me.

Gallant has a very impressive resume and is only unemployed because the Panthers are run by a bunch of clowns. Look at how they've treated Tallon. Total amateur hour and their will under .500 record proves it.

Who knows, maybe John Stevens is the right man? I'm sure the staff and players know him well enough if he's fit for the gig, and seeing how much his name is always in contention for head coaching gigs, you have to take him into consideration.

If Tippett becomes available, it will be him. He goes back a long way with Luc and Blake, and I believe Luc really respects him. Bank on this.

I'd buy that, I do remember the connections--but he's locked up forever and has a big role behind the scenes too, no?

Vegas to announce head coach tomorrow....rumor has it as Gallant.

God damnit!

I'm looking forward to a younger, hungrier coach who has a fresh mind for exciting hockey.

Than Gallant? Or just in general?

Blake wants NHL experience--gonna be tough to find both.

No, just in general. The boring stye of hockey the Kings played was really hard to watch. Every game the first period would end and either the game would be scoreless or the Kings would be losing with no goals scored. Just a brutal display of hockey, the ice time distribution was awful, the team was almost aways flat-I'd just like to see a coach who can bring in some passion and some attitude. IMO, the Kings have become as robotic as their coach and if you put another Murray, Murray, Sutter behind the bench we may be in danger of watching more of the same. In summary, I'd like to see a coach who can do more behind the bench than make the bitter beer face.

FYI, when John Stevens was head coach with the Flyers in 2007-08 and 2008-09, here's how his team's finished in goals for/goals against and special teams.

2007-08 Flyers:
248 Goals For (6th overall)
233 Goals Against (19th overall)
21.8 PP% (2nd overall)
83.3 PK% (10th overall)

2008-09 Flyers:
264 Goals For (6th overall)
238 Goals Against (17th overall)
22.5 PP% (6th overall)
82.9 PK% (6th overall)

It's worth mentioning that those Flyers teams didn't have the best goaltending and defense, but those special teams and goal scoring numbers are encouraging to see if he is who the Kings decide to go with as the new bench boss.

Which is why I can see people being interested in Hartley. He's got some fire to him.

My worry is that this is basically the state of the league right now; look at all the teams we played that either permanently ran a 1-3-1 against us or that sink back and play all 5 between their blue line and red line forcing dumps. Pretty much all coaches are working 90s systems right now and it's maddening. I agree I hope we get someone a little more fiery and up-tempo but I don't see anyone like that with NHL experience. Someone mentioned Hartley but he's old school too, his system with the Flames was rush hockey with the puck, Terry Murray without it.

I've been working on the East Coast for more than 5 years with almost no access to Kings news. (and I couldn't get my password reset after 5 attempts...)

The Kings are so screwed with the current power structure. I don't know much about the kids due to virtually no coverage of anything Kings here, but there isn't much that impresses me.

Please tell me that what I am reading here isn't true, that - Luc (with no education or background) and Blake (the ultimate Kings future killer) - aren't the future..

I will continue to try to re-establish my persona (aka PSP), but I can't do much if the HF gods don't respond to my requests....
