The benefit of firing Sutter mid-season is that John Stevens would get a try-out in a season where not much was expected from this team. I doubt any coach would make us a playoff team, but if the Kings style of play and response to John Stevens appeared like a positive step forward, we could use John Stevens as our coach next season. Now we will never know, unless they hire him and it doesn't pan out.

I am sure Blake is meeting with the leaders on the Kings to find out what they think about Stevens and to assess the situation in the locker room.

Never let the players hire the coach.

They haven't won. Jack ****. <throws hands in the air> I give up. I've read what you posted over, and over, and over again by numerous posters. I get what y'all think. It doesn't bear repeating.

You're right, the Kings do have one of the bleakest futures in the NHL, now. I'll give you that. But for a different reason than your's stated.

There is no reason the Kings should not be competing for the Cup this year, or the last two years for that matter and the main reason we aren't is because of Lombardi's recent moves. It's not like it's 2015 and we are all screaming for DL's head, this has been brewing for a long time.

We get angry at DL because he's made horrible, horrible moves that have left this team in a hell hole since 2014. He built an empire over 8 years and completely destroyed it over the next three. Yzerman might not have that Cup yet but he also hasn't completely destroyed the team over such a small window like DL did. We've said it a million times on here, Dean was the best GM in the league before the summer of 2014, since then he was one of, if not the worst GM in the league on par with Benning. Excuse me for not living in the past like many do on here. Fact is the Lighting will likely be Contenders again next year while Lombardi is out of a job and the Kings have one of the bleakest futures in the league right now.

Dean "did more" half a decade ago and proceeded to undo all the great work he did on his own. We compare the Kings to teams like Tampa, SJ, and the Ducks because those teams have adapted to the changes in the league and haven't crippled themselves with awful moves the last three years. Just because they haven't won a Cup yet doesn't change the fact that they have been much smarter with their assets lately and will all be contending teams for awhile while the Kings are backed into a corner

I'm shocked that I'm still one of very few that don't think we are that bad off. Refreshed system add some youth like we been doing , get rid of plugs like Clifford and Andreoff . I have a feeling one of Martinez or Muzzin is gone this offseason in a trade. Blake and Luc advocating youth movement ? Ladue,Gravel and Forbort surpassing expectations .....

If Kopitar didn't have a career worse year we would be in the playoffs.

I still can't get happy about Dean being let go. He was the smartest mind in hockey the Kings franchise has ever had. I think they should have let him evolve with the team and got rid of Sutter only. Dean is great at drafting , developing and building a winner. His loyalty was his downfall but I think he could have righted it . Not sure about Blake it scares me. Not only does Blake scare me being GM and trying to make trades and FA splash but knowing Doughty is up for a contract renewal soon scares me .

I concur with this. Dean thought about and forgot a million details I don't think will even cross Luc Robitaille's mind.

I'm not sure Dean would have evolved. I would have preferred to see him try to maintain the culture from the President's desk only and let Futa handle player personnel.

So what do you expect from Blake and Luc? I sure hope it's the same sort of window (3 or so years) as y'all have used to turn on DL.

Serious question, Sacha, brother.

Arte Moreno does it, too. It's not always a sure-fire way for success, or even partial success. Moreno is enept. A lot of Owners/GMs do, in fact, use this tactic. Not just Belichick, Sox.

If Blake accomplishes 1/5 of what Belichick (the GM) has, I'll eat a turd out of my toilet.

I'm kind of hoping Blake doesn't win now just for your sake.

I don't know what to expect, but one thing I do know is that it was time for changes. Sutter and Lombardi both ran their course here.

I'm skeptical of Luc becoming one of the most powerful executives in hockey with no experience but he clearly has a plan to take the team in a different direction. Only time will tell if it works or not

Trouty my brother you seem to fall under the same siren call Lombardi suffered from. Loyalty is an admirable trait, will give you that

What are they saying about these promotions on KI, Sox? What's the group consensus?

Probably everyone but about 5 people are thrilled Sutter is gone. About 60% are happy Dean is gone. Most were against Blake but have since gone on to giving him a chance first.

Seems about in line with this page. Thanks, Sox. I know you're there often (I lurk :))

Yeah, it's about the same as here. I'm there most often since the traffic there is higher although the insight is sometimes better here. Have to weed through a lot of idiots over there. Thankfully there's a block feature there now.

Definitely, Sox. I love Rosen and there are some good posters there, but this sub is the best for a balanced approach to the team.

I don't even mind the cannings (I wanted Sutter gone), Sanford. It's the replacements, my man.
Lot of unknown with Blake will agree there. But at this point gonna give him a chance. Will see what the team looks like come Sept.
