It's not only 1 month, he was bad all year long except the first 5 games with MSL and it's not like If he was 30 and a bad year can happen. Usually Dmen are starting to slow down at Petry age so GM will clearly consider that. Just look at the return that Dmen with term and at Petry age usually get.
We'll see. I don't think he's been that bad other than the beginning of the season. His age isn't important, just his level of play. If his level of play is not good enough, then I would agree with you. He's obviously better suited for a 2/3 role as opposed to being a #1, which he has been De Facto this season in Montreal. He was also coming off a long post-season run and a short off-season. I think Petry will bounce back and be productive, either in Montreal or elsewhere.

The thing is most people forget how good he's been for the last 3-4 years. I certainly get he's older, but it's not like he's lost his mobility, which is what normally happens to older players. Previous to this year, he would have got a haul in a trade as was deservedly in consideration for the Norris trophy.

People see how old he is and his stats and think that play must be due to age and he's done, but I don't think that's the situation at all. IMO it's a case of starting the season injured due to the run last year, being away from his family, and being a part of the worst team in the league which completely lost its identity.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him bounce back next year to his statistical norms, either on the Habs or another team. I don't think management is going to give him away, and I don't think Jeff is going to force their hand, so it's a case of offering something decent or he's not going anywhere. And I think that is fine with Montreal's management.

I'd love to have him in Vancouver. But the only way it'd work, would be to have Myers going back the other way...and not a lot of big value otherwise. And even then...Canucks are already on the hook for big money on D with OEL for tooooooo long. I'm not sure how comfortable i'd be with that Petry contract length.

But in the meantime, he'd be a perfect partner for OEL or Hughes.

Petry had an off start to the year but he's not a cap dump, nor will GMs outside of hfboards see him as such. Here's a guy playing as a #1/2 for half a decade who's one year removed from a top 10 dman season. I don't doubt the Habs will take back salary but it's not going to be cap for cap with nothing left. It's going to Petry for cap dump + significant asset.

Petry wants out of Canada, And he's not waiving to be 3,000 miles away from his family. His wife is pregnant with another child so he's going to want to be as close to Detroit as humanly possible.

To be fair they wanted out because of the lockdowns and mandates which aren't even happening anymore. There's a good chance he's traded in the summer but they lived in Montreal full-time until COVID lockdowns got serious. They're not trying to be "closer to home", they wanted away from Canada's semi-hard stance on COVID compared to America not giving a crap.

They didn't live full time in Montreal only during the hockey season, Their main home is in Farmington Hills, Michigan where jeff grew up. And it wasn't only the Covid lockdowns that drove Petry's wife and kids away it was the way his wife was being treated there in Montreal. A Costco manager treated her like s**t because she couldn't speak French which most Americans don't anyways Buffalo or Pittsburgh would be perfect for him.

Don’t see the fit in Detroit at all. Take them off the list.

Dallas make sense, do they have a similar dubious contract to Petrys to send back to the Habs? Winnipeg makes sense but he’s not going there.

What about seeing if Nashville would swap him for Ryan Johansson? Same remaining 3 years of term. That makes them a decent fit. Saves the Preds $1.75mm per. Habs get younger 2C better than Dvorak.
Could work. Johansson big center likely have career year under MSL. Trade value be sky high next deadline
