I always wonder with deals like this how giving up a 7th gets included. Is Seattle so hard up that the 7th would be a deal breaker?
You assume that Seattle and Calgary are dealing with each other in isolation when it's more likely that there is a bidding war.

That is a great return for us. We (fans) would have been happy just with a 2nd. LOL.

But between him and Chiarot it just goes on to show that GM's do weird things at the TDL. Even when it is a 'buyers market'.

Definitely one of Ronny's better moves so far in his tenure. Has Jarnkrok played much C this year?

Calgary :sarcasm:

Calgary's lines for tonights game without Jarnkrok are:

Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Coleman-Backlund-Lewis
Mangiapane-Ruzicka-Toffoli
Lucic-Monahan-Dube
Richardson-Ritchie

He displaces Lewis on the second line if we're talking from a skill POV.
Positionally, Lucic sits out.

Either way that's a pretty formidable forward group.

I think Ruzicka gets sent down despite his good play. But my guess is he would be the first call up when injuries happen. I could see Jankrok playing #3 center, him with Mangiapane and Toffoli would be a really solid line that can score. Or play with Coleman and Backlund as a high end checking line that faces top lines in the playoffs.

Nilson 2.0.

Versatile depth forward that can play on any forward line. Really, really good depth addition but definitely not a great price. There must have been some competition for him.
Yup, he is a solid addition but I feel the Flames overpaid a bit. Sutter will know how to get the most out of him.

Hahaha. I had a strong feeling he would be a Flame, too many connections to the team and hes Swedish. Calgary is now Team Sweden.

Great player, center and a righty, should slide in great behind Linds and Backs at center. Guessing the cost was a 2nd and the other 2 draft picks are for salary retention.

Gonna be a battle just to stay in the lineup now for Calgary.

The 3rd is a bit much but honestly don't care at all. Off chance it hits in 6 years is meaningless.

Let's go

Don't overlook the retention, that's a critical part of why Cap-tight contenders pay more to buy,
and why salary clearing deals by Cap-tight contenders, like Vatrano deal, bring back less

No even positionally Lewis sits long before Lucic and Coleman just cha-cha slides to the right

Seattle made out like bandits on this one.
A low 2nd and a low 3rd

A 7th is for retention

It’s a win for them as they have no use for him but it’s no robbery….that’s rental market value

Yeah. But 1M retention should really not make that much of a difference really. I mean I am not complaining about the return but I was expecting something like a 2nd + 6th for Jarnkrok @ 50%. We got a little more so am pretty happy about it. But the Flames got a real good player who can fit pretty much anywhere in the lineup.

Well maybe he'll be a better playoff performer for the Flames than he ever was for us. Don't get me wrong, we still liked Jarnkrok overall... he played up and down the lineup in whatever role was asked of him, and did a pretty good job in basically all those spots. He was still great value for that contract he signed overall.

Just... I would never have given up anything for him specifically in the context of being a trade deadline rental for the playoffs. He always found a way to completely vanish in the playoffs for us. He's a very soft player, and you don't mind that so much in the regular season, especially if he's still playing a good 2-way game overall. But in the playoffs he just seemed far too timid and ineffectual. I wouldn't have taken him back on our team for free if it was just for playoff purposes. Sorry. :( As a longer term player to continue his regular season utility role, sure, he's a decent player. But not as a deadline rental, no thanks.

Can't really say that it works this way, but Calgary has set an early price on forwards for this deadline and may have priced up competitive offers on other players for their playoff competition?

Yep Calgary just paid for a guy who they will not even know is playing once the playoffs start. Well unless they are playing a soft team and then he may show up a little.

Good move for Seattle.

Does he know he’s been traded yet this time?

He’s one of those sneaky good players. Not the greatest accountant and sleeps through trade deadlines… but this is a nice get for the Flames.

My only worry would be how he reacts to Sutter.
