and out of those forwards Versteeg is better than Pakarinen, Kassian, Letestu, Pitlick, Hendricks, Slepyshev(He hasn't had enough games to determine how good he is), Caggiula(hasn't played Reg season), and lots of Oilers fans say Pulji isn't ready.

In any other year JP would be in the lineup. He's not ready by a higher standard this season and also because of depth. If Leon Draisaitl was an 18 year old rookie this season he wouldn't be in the lineup either.

That always seems to be how PTO's work:

Guy signs a PTO with Team X to get looked at.
Guy plays well enough that Team X might offer contract.
Guy secretly hopes Team A, B or C might see enough to swoop in and offer more.
Guy gets offer from Team X. Agent lets it slip to other teams about contract.
Guy gets offers from Team A & C, with more offered in contract.
Guy signs with Team A. Fans of Team X are outraged. Blame Team X for stupidity.

Did I get it right?

good luck CGY fans, any guy who moves around this much is a guaranteed liability

That's a facile argument. Domenic Moore is traded for a 2nd round pick every other year.

This is reality in the cap world. Versteeg is not the sort of player you commit to. He's a complimentary piece. Everyone would take him on their team, but at this stage nobody wants him for 3x$12m.

He's good friends with my nephew so I've met him quite a few times in Lethbridge.

Sure, he has a fairly healthy dose of self confidence, but he's always been a decent guy whenever he's been around.

.......now on the ice, I've sure he is a **** disturber of the highest order.

Chance to play top line with Johnny and Mony or 3rd-4th line in Edmonton

Easy decision.

Flames had an opening for a natural RW in their top 6, plus I would imagine his buddy Troy Brouwer did some whispering as well.

Godamnit oilers! Versteeg was looking to be such a good pickup! Can't believe they didn't sign him! Now they have to push Puljujarvi when he's just not ready for the NHL. Can they really not learn from their mistakes?!

Would love to know the logic there, only thing i can think of is that they wanted to retain some roster flexibility under the 50 man limit while keeping some depth on D (re-signing Gryba) or maybe they're only signin Gryba because Versteeg bolted?

Oilers offered the same deal to Versteeg as the Flames did..he chose to play with the Flames....

I'd sign there too if I were him. On the Flames he's a first line rw, and on the Oilers he's a 3rd liner.

Says more about the Flames depth if anything

We could use either Frolik or Brouwer, but Frolik has chemistry with Backlund. Also, Brouwer developed some chemistry with Tkachuk and Bennett. So without breaking up those lines the top line right wing spot is up for grabs.

Or he was offered a contract and instead decided to go play where he had a chance to win. Oh wait, that is what actually happened.:D

lol more chance to win that's funny. He went because he would have to play 3rd line RW in Edmonton. Have fun with versteeg as your first liner.

LMAO

He's a great compliment to the flames top six. Better than going the oilers route by rushing rookies. Cough cough yakupov.
