Clarification of roster composition. The rules re 45 cards....are Hockey Canada rules, CCHL's are more restrictive, we only get 35 cards and have a roster of 23, with an injured reserve if a player is missing 45 days or more and can bump up to 24 for a short time. Also, just because a player lists somewhere outside Canada as their hometown does not mean their citizenship is that Country, for instance lots of players are dual citizens, we only have 5 imports, not 7.

Thanks for clarification Terry, great to see you on again. One more question, is there a deal yet where you can move players up and down between CCHL and CCHL2? I know signing a CCHL2 card and affiliating would work but makes sense to keep spares from CCHL team in game action.

Good luck with your season, looks like it will be a real interesting season in CCHL with a few upsets already.

In order to do that without using up cards, teams would have to be part of a club system, which is not the case nor have I heard it discussed. There are some teams with common ownership or close relationships, but for the most part the two levels are run independently, but there is more cooperation than in the past. Right now the only way to do it is via the AP process or releasing/signing players.

Is that not the ultimate goal of KA; 12 CCHL, 12 CCHL2, 12 U18 and a club system that he controls the players and the money.

USPHL club system.....most successful system in NA in moving kids onto NCAA Major Jr and NHL.....

We are 10 yrs behind them....and 25 yrs behind countries like Sweden and Finland who have a quarter of the players play hockey as to Canada and USA...they use club system...but what do they know?

How is Canada's team system working at World Cup vs Club system? You do not fix something that is not broken.

The club system works for them because that is what they know and grew up with. It also works because the team at the top supply's everything including the recourses (money, coaching).
In the club system you guy's are trying to establish the money goes up to the top. Very different and very wrong.

Sauve also new GM. Rangers moving to Rockland next season. First game for the new group is tonight against Brockville, we'll see how things look.

I do not know the new coach GM but please do not be to harsh on him or the organization because the team is picked and signed so he only has a limited cards available to him so he/they can only do so much.

I hope he/they can turn this around because the league needs to improve and this is a good first step.

Agree that we can't comment on Sauve because he can only play with the cards that he's been dealt, but I hope that management does make some changes to the roster.

Exactly my thoughts. Sauve's spent the past 4 years as an assistant coach for the Jr. Senators. Not sure if he has any management experience, but time will tell. A few talented kids in Gloucester. The turnaround won't happen overnight, but good things will come if the new group invests with time and money.

Sauve was the Ottawa Jr Senators Assistant General Manager as well as being their Associate Coach, so he does have experience in the management side of things. As a 4-year defenseman in the CCHL between the Grads and Lumber Kings and coming from a very strong defensive system in Ottawa I can imagine the Gloucester club will definitely have some tweaks coming to how they play the game.

This also just in, Gloucester acquires '98 born depth forward & Rockland, ON native Simon Houle from the Hawkesbury Hawks. Minor acquisition but I am sure more is to come.

How are the 16 year old players doing so far, any standouts?

Alexeev is the top 2000 in league so far in my opinion. It is still too early to assess all of them because some coaches will slowly work them into their system more as the season goes on. I will say I haven't seen any that don't belong in CCHL.

Rangers beat Braves 3-2 in first game under Sauve. And they looked good. Played reasonably even with Brockville all night. First few minutes were lopsided but after that was a good, hard-fought game. Good for everyone involved, and for the CCHL as a whole.

Shortly after season start-up the Kemptville 73's welcomed back defenseman Quinn Wichers from USHL camp.

Today they announced that '98 born leading goal scorer from 2015-16 Owen Guy has also returned to the team.

Development

One of the coaches in the CCHL thinks that development is not playing a 16 year old in 7 of their first 11 games.
It is very hard to develop or get better being a healthy scratch.
The term not playing the right way is used by coaches to get players to change their style or game. This usually means play my way.
The player played a whole year in the U18 league under his now Jr A coach. If his style of play needed to change why did the coach not try to address this issue last year.
There are many things going on here;
• Is the coach up set the player went to Major Junior Camp?
• Is he upset that the player went to an agent camp?
• Is he upset the player has not committed to a NCAA team?
• Is he upset that the player is considering Major Junior?
None of the above is grounds for not playing this player.
The underlying issue is the CCHL and HEO needs to put into place a policy they insures underage players that sign Jr.A cards are played. In the CCHL Junior A, there should be no 16 year old players, unless they meet the HC requirements of exceptional status (like the OHL has for 15 year olds). This should insure that elite 16 year old get to play. If they cannot play they should have never been signed.
Bottom line play the player or release him.

- Maybe the team has 6 better Defensemen. It's junior hockey don't need to be babying these kids anymore.

- The player might be injured

Just because the kid made team as a 16 yr old doesn't mean he should be guaranteed a certain amount of ice.

Honestly, I do not think he is physically ready to play full time in CCHL especially in the smallest rink in league where you can't hide. Another year of Midget would not have been a bad thing. He may eventually be sent down to CCHL2 like Grant was a few years ago. Coach is not going to put a kid in a situation that would not be good for team or player. Many players are eased into the league which is better long term.

I spoke to many 1999 parents who played in u18 last year and looking back it was best spot for their kid being the "go to guy" on the team not looking good in a suit most games.
