Great news plus they can finally give him the C.

I wouldn't hold your breath. At Jarmo's talk last night, someone asked the question. Jarmo responded that we didn't have one last year and did just fine. He reiterated that if one is named, it will be obvious who earned it. It may end up being Dubi, but I think we'll play at least another season without one. Just IMO. I think Jarmo is using it as a motivator, myself. Just dangling a carrot.

Dubinsky's deal: 6 years, $35.1 million ... will make $5.85M in each of the six seasons. Further ...

... #CBJ / Dubinsky signed a no-move clause for upcoming season and first three seasons of new deal, then limited no-trade in final three.

Johansen is better than Dubinsky at hockey and played hard and performed last season, just as Dubisnky did.

I'm not saying Dubinsky is "better" than Johansen, but what do you honestly think would happen if they matched up against each other for a 7 game series? They are different players. I'd be perfectly fine going forward with Dubinsky as our #1 center. I wish he would've gotten over 6 mil to hear more of you guys *****.

Name him captain later tonight.

We wouldn't be a playoff team if Duby was our #1 center. He's a perfect 2nd line center, but I'd gladly choose Johansen as the top line guy.

Not offensively, but when you throw in his face off and defensive abilities, he can shut down Sidney Crosby and still get a point a game in a series. May not be your traditional #1, but when he can dominate a real #1......I mean dominate.....that's not something most #2's can do.

I agree, I love Dubi, but to make it to the playoffs you gotta score goals through the regular season, I don't know our team is a playoff team if you subtract Johansen, but the good thing is, is that we won't have to worry about that.

This is great news to start the day. I'm a Dubie fan, he is the heart and soul of this club. I wouldn't be shocked if he's named Captain at the press conference either. He is undoubtedly the outward leader of this club.

Another thing that doesn't shock me is that it took less than 25 replies before someone started *****ing. Good on ya' HF Jacket backers.

You guys can think what you want about Johansen's defensive play and how matchups work but Dubinsky was essentially our top center last year. They were used differently. I can see him being used the same exact way the next 2-3 years. He was outstanding in the playoffs.

Glad he's wrapped up. The value is playoff money, if we dont make the playoffs, then its not a great cap hit. His mojo is as a playoff player and worth every penny of it

Labels are labels. Dubi and Joey have different roles. By traditional standards Dubi will never be considered a #1 center. But for most of us it doesn't matter what we call them. Hopefully we can call them ours for a long time.

Dubi at 5.85 is a steal, especially when you consider the direction the cap is going. The way he played this past season I would have been comfortable giving him much more than this. Great job by Jarmo to keep such an important piece here for the long haul.

Pretty much the exact contract Tampa signed Callahan to 6 yr, 5.8 mill. To me they are near the exact same player. So glad to have Dubinsky, and more importantly, I have to imagine he was initially disappointed to be shipped to Columbus from the Rangers initially. He didnt sulk, he decided to lead the culture change, and the fact he just resigned for 6 years to me, shows that Columbus is now a true destination that players want to be a part of. Congrats Dubi.

Fantastic fantastic news! He is very high on my list of all time favorite Jackets. The only jersey I own. He is the quintessential Jacket.

Yep, and the year prior he was a non factor, and was sent to ahl after our season was over, only to be benched during the ahl playoffs. I love what Joey did last year. However, its one season.Dubinsky has been consistent, and the leadership he provides is invaluable. Dont get me wrong, we better sign Joey, but I'm in the camp that if he wants to be paid like an elite player, you have to do it year in, and year out. Same thing we did with Bob.

I was leaving my Authentic Road jersey blank for a long time, but now that Dubinsky signed an extended contract, I can't wait to have 17 put on the back.

huh? I'm not anti-Dubie. I love the guy. But insane to try to somehow link/compare his contract to Johansen in any way. Completely different players and contractual situations.

I like having him back and this done and out of the way. I'm a bit nervous on the term, but I'll worry more about that in another 3 or 4 years.
