A good point made in this article:

The last interesting tidbit in this signing is the fact that Dubinsky's agent, Kurt Overhardt, also represents current RFA Ryan Johansen. Perhaps we'll see some movement on that front now, particularly since this seems like the perfect "real world" example of how the club is willing to follow a shorter term deal with a longer term reward.

Hopefully RyJo sees the Dubinsky signing as commitment from the team.

Pretty much the exact contract Tampa signed Callahan to 6 yr, 5.8 mill. To me they are near the exact same player. So glad to have Dubinsky, and more importantly, I have to imagine he was initially disappointed to be shipped to Columbus from the Rangers initially. He didnt sulk, he decided to lead the culture change, and the fact he just resigned for 6 years to me, shows that Columbus is now a true destination that players want to be a part of. Congrats Dubi.

We have the better player. Dubinsky has been better than Callahan all but one year. Look at the most recent playoff.

But they've been compared with each other their whole careers, and I've been saying for months now that Dubinsky was going to get Callahan money. Anything less and he'd be insulted. But this deal is really perfect, because he could have gotten more, IMO.

I like having him back and this done and out of the way. I'm a bit nervous on the term, but I'll worry more about that in another 3 or 4 years.

To me you can ease your nerves based on the fact that in year four, his no move clause becomes a limited no trade clause. If Wennberg pans out, and this Joey situation sorts out, Joey-Dubinsky-Wennberg down the middle is the stuff that Cup champions are made of.

This is slightly off-point, but building a hockey team is a lot like building a quality baseball team. You have to be strong down through the middle. In baseball, the best teams normally have a high quality catcher, top notch pitching staff, great middle infielders and a top notch centerfielder. In hockey, star goaltender, strong defense and a skilled group of centers. To me, for both sports, that's the recipe for success.

Dubinsky > Callahan

Love that he's in for the long haul here. I do hope the contract includes a "you only get an NMC if you stop taking stupid penalties" clause

Huh? These contracts have nothing to do with one another.

Jarmo was ready to make a long-term commitment to Dubinsky, because he is pending UFA, but because Joey is RFA and only has one strong NHL season under his belt, and Dubie has many, he is hesitant to commit long term.

There is no bad blood or issue with Joey's agent.

In Dubie's case, both player AND Jarmo wanted to get a long term deal done. In Joey's case, player wants big term and dollar, Jarmo doesn't.

Gotta think Anisimov is on the block now?

WTF

You Trade Anismov Truthers realize having strength down the middle is important?

Did the Sharks trade Joe Thorton and Pavelski when Cooch was a prospect?

It's infuriating as a fan of this team from the beginning, having had crappy centers for a decade, reading fans try to trade skilled and talented centers JUST as that is becoming a strength of the team.

Calm down there tiger. I think most of us realize there's no connection between Dubi signing and Arty being shipped out.

Congrats to Dubi! When I used to root for the Rangers, Dubi and Callahan were my favorite players, never agreed with the decision to get rid of them, but both are doing well for themselves Post-Rangers.

Anyway good luck to you guys next season, except when you are playing against Tampa of course, lol. :p

I hope the team doesn't even pick alternate captains just to piss some of you guys off. What a weird issue to get hung up on.

Thought you guys were a little tighter to the cap then what you seem to be. Also you have five pretty good NHL centers, and Boone Jenner is a center to if I'm not mistaken? Since Nikitins been traded, a RD would be pretty beneficia,l no? I think a base around Petry for Anismov is more then fair and would benefit both teams. Just my two cents.
