Line Combos: CBJ Roster Discussion/Line Combos/Injury Report

I missed Porty’s Front and Nationwide podcast yesterday and found that technical glitches have prevented availability of the normal recorded broadcast. Can anyone relay if the podcast included any bits of new news or speculation?
Waddell said he feels like Jiricek has nothing to gain from the A.

Friedman wouldn’t word it the way he has with Jiricek if they were really taking calls on him. Aka they aren’t trading him. He’s going off the frustration and dust up from last season.

Earlier update was that Lindstrom is still skating, and Don wants to be able to send him down before the end of the month.

“Lindstrom even if healthy and able to go through a training camp. He was going back to Medicine Hat. These guys (Matey incl.) are going to be trained and developed the right way. No more of that stuff anymore.” (Referring to just bouncing guys around and playing up when they shouldn’t under Jarmo’s watch)

Says people are jumping to conclusions about Jiricek and his attitude.

Says Walsh can obviously be a very outspoken guy but think it has more to do with Allan feeling like he has to speak out on behalf of his clients. Says it feels like it’s coming more from his clients not Walsh directly. Says none of this behavior doesn’t at least get cleared by someone in the client party.

“There are trust issues here. Plain and simple.” Talking about Jiricek

Losing streak will not give way to any acceleration on prov trade.

Dean mentioned forwards not circling back to cover for defensemen jumping into the play. Which is fine for the D but don’t have coverage from the forwards.

I like our fourth line. Hope, Evason will not change it. If Johnson will return, Sillinger can play instead of Pyyhtiä.

Voronkov (24) - Monahan (30) - Marchenko (24)
Johnson (22) - Fantilli (20) - Chinakhov (23)
Sillinger (21) - Danforth (31) - Olivier (27)
Aston-Reaves (30) - Kuraly (31) - Labanc (29)

Werenski (27), Fabbro (26)
Provorov (27), Severson (30)
Christiansen (25), xxx

I do not count with Jenner (31) and Gudbranson (32).

ZAR and Labanc are playing as well together as any LW/RW combo on the team. Labanc's issue has always been work ethic, but he's always skating and moving his feet and ZAR is always in the right place. They played with or against each other since grade school, I guess it's no surprise they have chemistry
Agreed. Until KJ comes back this is the lineup I’d run with until further notice.

JVR is maybe our best net front guy on the team, but other than that he doesn’t bring much else to the table. I wouldn’t be surprised if when KJ returns if we waive JVR (assuming Waddell is telling the truth about Jiricek having nothing to learn at the AHL level).

We can return Pyyhtiä to Cleveland. He is not a NHL player. Also have enough players for PK, Kuraly, Chinakhov, Johnson, Voronkov might play in PK too.

Really hope we can get KJ back soon and stick him with Fantilli. We still haven’t gotten to see a true playmaker with him yet. I think he probably needs that at this point in his career.

Good repost. Clearly there’s reason for optimism and over time you’d think we’ll be able to balance this out by burying more of these chances. I do think our lack of prolific scorers means our conversion rate might be lower than expected but we do have some bottom 6 guys that might help modestly offset that to a degree.

But if our top guys buried more they would be prolific. :dunno:

Maybe it's just me looking for an Easy Villain via confirmation bias rather than reasonable analysis, but all the same I'm kind of officially done with the Provorov-Severson pairing. I badly want to send Provorov off to another team and pick up a stay-at-home shutdown guy in his place.

I have mentioned it a few times but the similarities from this season to last are crazy to me. A better than expected October, bottom falling out in November, and Provorov is like the player version of the whole team. Last year we were discussing keeping him long term, there was some talk about it this year too, because he started the year pretty good. Now? Awful. Like the team.

As Provorov Goes, So Go The Blue Jackets? Hm. That has me moderately worried about the implications of trading him or letting him walk, then... ;)

Here is either an explanation or a justification that works if nowhere else in my own mind.

With the acquisition of Fabbro, it created two opportunities - one, to see if he worked alongside Werenski as a possible long-term top pair. This also allows us to learn what we need Jiricek to become, or at least gather intel on that.

Secondly, it allows us to see if Provorov is a reasonable partner for anyone except Werenski. Even in here we had thoughts about possibly re-signing Provorov given his good play alongside Zach early this season. But can he be more comfortably traded if we learn he’s not suitable alongside Severson? Maybe.

Anyway, I’m assuming there is long-term roster intel being gathered here.

Would you rather have Severson or Provorov ?

I would like to see four things happen this upcoming week:
1. Kent Johnson making his return.
2. Cayden Lindstrom being cleared to go to Medicine Hat.
3. David Jiricek going to Cleveland.
4. Gavin Brindley making his Cleveland début.

If all four occur, I'll be a happy camper.

This makes sense to me as well. Provorov and Severson can't be a long term pairing. Fabbro seems to pair well with Werenski. He could also potentially fit with Mateychuk. Provorov only seems to work with Werenski. My guess is Provorov will be dealt as soon as a reasonable offer is tendered.
