I don't see why we wouldn't want to sign him. By all accounts a good defensive player in college who skates very well. Let's see what he can do in the minors.

Came here to say just that. I really like his game. Not a lot of flash but not devoid of skill and solid in all aspects. I think his game translates well. Then again, I've been voting him a lot earlier in our prospect rankings than most so maybe I'm just trying to will it to happen.

LDBB is looking like he could be a great second round pick. This guys not a smurf like some who can score in the AHL but not duplicate it in the NHL.

I think you have to separate the Lindstrom pick from the trade idea. The top 5 picks this year are not better than the players available in the top 5 last year, even a 1st OA this year might not be better than say, Demidov or Buium. We don't know yet, and there's no obvious guy this year who is miles better than that group of players. So in that trade we would be delaying by a year, possibly getting a worse draft, and possibly getting a worse pick (if Chicago loads up more and finishes higher in the standings, being without a 1st). It was simply put, a bad trade for the Jackets.

The Lindstrom thing we'll have to see. I don't know if the doctors we hired feel good about what they said about Lindstrom's back. Maybe they actually do, we don't know how his recovery is going right now.

It was reported at the time that they had a hard time deciding between Levshunov and Demidov. They saw an opportunity to get both.

I disagree with most of this. This draft is overall weaker, but I would say the top 7 is at least comparable to last year. This year is also filled with more of what we need with Centers and left wing more present (although as it turns out with Jircek flopping we needed D more last year).

Unfortunately hindsight is 20/20 and that is what makes the deal so much more attractive now. Jiricek's flameout here weakens the blueline's future quite a bit, KJ's breakout & the Russian's improvement dramatically improved scoring, Lindstrom's injury and doubtful future and the death of JG have all dramatically changed what position we are in and what we needed last year versus this year from a draft.

I disagree with most of this. This draft is overall weaker, but I would say the top 7 is at least comparable to last year.

if lindstrom's recovery goes well i would put him above everyone in this year's class except maybe schaefer. i think he'll have a longer journey to the NHL than a lot of other top-five picks given that he just started playing center last year and then lost time to injury, but he checks every single box that i look for in a 1C.

I would rank him as the following ignoring injury, but I think the 4-6 have the potential to be better but lack the physical tools or positional value to go above Lindstrom.

to me, lindstrom is a unicorn prospect. the total package is ridiculous. size, smarts, skating, snarl, shooting… he has it all. i don't think he has the same god-tier hands and hockey sense that a guy like sasha barkov has, but he's going to be a two-way force in his prime.

no disrespect whatsoever to hagens, who i think will be a higher scorer than lindstrom and a possession monster as well. i just see lindstrom as having more impact on the game, especially in a postseason setting, given his strength and two-way game.

i'm more of a martone guy than hagens too, because he has some of those same elements (skilled power forward game) but the skating isn't nearly on lindstrom's level.

Agreed. I would definitely trade Lindstrom straight up for Hagens or Schaefer today, and I would give the other 3 a lot of thought.

I don't think your hindsight is 20/20.

We're not a team that should be focusing on need, we have well balanced organizational depth and what we're really looking for is special players who can put us over the top.

If Lindstrom returns to health then he is my clear preference (or I would have taken Demidov or Buium, who I ranked ahead). Trading that pick for a mystery box a year later would likely be a straight up loss.

A little Marrelli related update: Oshawa has acquired Preds' RD prospect Andrew Gibson from Greyhounds (42OA pick in 2023). With Danforth, Marrelli, Gibson and D'Amato they now have 4 RDs in their top-6. So far Marrelli has played on right side, usually next to LHD Svozil or RHD D'Amato but this move may force him to switch sides. I don't believe this will affect Marrelli's role on PP1 and overall TOI much, but PK time will most likely reduce.

Last night Oshawa had 11-7 lineup vs Ottawa. In most 5v5 shifts Marrelli was on his natural side paired with LD Wang and RD D'Amato. Also still playing on PP1 and PK2.

Elick was pretty noticeable in good and bad ways in his first game with TC. Immediately got plenty of responsibility: played mostly in the first D pair, was on TC's PP2 and PK1. Earned 3rd star of the game. He had one huge clean hit that lead to a fight in which he punched the Seattle player in the chin right away and then wrestled him down. It was the highlight of his debut.

I really like the promise of last year's draft. Love the big focus on the mobile defensemen with size. The overall D depth in the organization should be a significant position of strength. Don't need all to hit, but Cleveland should be supported for years with an influx over the next few years. Not to mention what is already there. May not be any #1 D for sure, but they really have some promise and I'll take a team full of 2-4 level D-men, especially if Z can keep his level of play through the contract. Very exciting. Now let's continue to draft a goalie every year to see who pans out. Or use pieces to get that guy to stabilize this team. Exciting times.
