2025 DRAFT Thread

With the Canucks officially retaining both their first and second round draft picks, and now owning the Sharks third rounder via the Rangers in the Soucy trade--it'll be like having a first and two seconds.

Somebody projected to go a lot higher is bound to drop out of the second round and into the very top of the third round. At least something to look forward to. But June seems like a long way away.

If they fall I’d take them in this order:
McQueen
O’Brien
Bear

Otherwise, Kindel, Ryabkin, Reschny, and Martin are my favourite guys in that order.

Do not draft: any of the dman (seems like a very weak crop), Eklund (he’s 156lbs), Nesbitt. Pretty much it.

Thankfully we’re picking right before the cut off of talent. After about #17, it’s very mid.

Draft has as good of a top 16 as any other draft and we should be able to pick up a really good player.

Agree with almost all of this, would just move Ryabkin to the end of those four. Kindel, Reschny and Martin all have great motors and are highly skilled. I'd be very happy with any of them.

Honestly keep this pick. 14-16 will have some pretty solid options.

BPA as always.
Given where the Canucks are at, anybody they draft is probably three to four season away from actually stepping into their lineup and helping them.

But for at least one day in June, Canuck fans can fantasize about drafting the next Joe Sakic, Shea Weber, Pavel Bure or even Brock Boeser and Ryan Kesler. These were kids who were drafted well past the hoopla of all the picks at the top of the first round.

I'm ok with BPA if we are heavily factoring in that we need to draft a center and will rate them higher.......I mean we absolutely have to come away with a C prospect the first round no? There are soo many C's available it looks like unless someone that we like falls a lot we ABSOLUTELY need to draft a bunch of C's here............I get the BPA argument but I also think you gotta draft C's and as such we need to value them much higher than any other position barring D. I would greatly assume that would be the plan this year

BPA will be a C most likely anyway.

Looking back, I seem to recall that many Canuck fans were less than enthralled with the positioning of the Canucks picks, heading into the 2022 Entry Draft.

The Canucks wouldn't end up drafting until 15th overall in the first round, despite another dismal season where they failed to make the playoffs.

But the team netted Lekkerimaki, EP25 and Kudryavtsev out of that draft.....a pretty decent haul in retrospect.
And goaltender Ty Young is still in their system; and Jackson Dorrington was sacrificed in the J.T. Miller trade, so I guess the Rangers thought something of him. Not sure where Damon Gardiner is at.

So with picks in every round of the 2025 draft, I'm optimistic they'll find enough talent to beef up their prospect talent pool, at the very least.

Trey Augustine going back to school.

Given Cossa is ahead of him, possible he may not want to sign with Detroit in the future.

Would be of interest to acquire his rights depending on the price and if mgmt thinks they can get him signed.

Guys, I am going to watch my first 2025 draft prospect video which means our first round pick will 100% be traded now.

Canucks were dead last in 2016 and would have drafted Auston Matthews had they played out the year properly. Instead, Dan f***ing Hamhuis scored 2 game winners and they swept California, which dropped them to 3rd. Then they lost 2 lottery spots and passed on Tkachuk for Juolevi.
To be fair though that whole first round was more miss than hits.
