Circumstances: I think he lost major parts of two seasons to injury and the pandemic. CBJ couldn't help that. Seeing how his ELC was basically a two year deal since they blew the first year on a ten playoff game audition his rookie year

Circumstances: As for last year, sure we would have all liked to see him developing in the AHL but he was no longer on an ELC and the team didn't want to risk losing him to waivers. Again, not really the team's fault. I don't know if another team would have grabbed him off waivers but if he had started the year in Cleveland, played really well, been called up and someone grabbed him fans would have been all pissed that we lost him to waivers when it could have been avoided.

*This is where bringing a guy in at the very end of the season and blowing a year off their ELC hurt the club (2019). If Foudy's ELC slides to 2020 (I don't know if an ELC can slide two years) then he is still on his ELC last year and could have been sent down. But again, not even sure you can do that.
To be honest, I completely spaced the the waivers situation this last season
He played 24 games for CBJ and 12 in CLE during the covid year. A little less than half the total games for each team. The next year he played 20+ games in CLE and was doing well, then missed the rest of the season due to injury. He's been in CBJ since. He was good in the AHL, and looked ok at the end of last year. Probably needs to be more consistant at the NHL level to stick around.
I do think he looked pretty good the last month or so. He's got a huge off-season/start of the season if he wants to stay relevant with all the other bodies fighting for time.

I've felt that's the case, CBJ having the best prospect pool in the league. Have to agree with them!

There's a lot to be excited about. The head office and scouting staff have proven themselves in building the best prospect pool. Now the HO has to manage all that talent because at some point we'll be hitting cap and can't keep them all, so you would want to get some value out of the talent that runs over our cup. That's the task now, asset management and plugging the holes that appear.

Yeah there’s a lot of depth there and TFW is on the outside looking in, waiting to see if he gets a call-up.

While he's looked good in the AHL, when he's been up before he's not looked great. He's rained to capitalize on his chances and IIRC correctly overslept and missed a practice and was sent back down. Don't think he'll be getting another look barring another massive injury problem

This podcast is from the HockeyProspect.com the ones who produce the BlackBook.

They gave an interesting insight and the reasoning for this years draft picks.

What I also found interesting is listening to the Capitals draft review on this podcast. Brad Allen breaks down skating of Cristall and the reason its interesting because in his analysis it talks about how his game tanks to the latter part of the season because lack of his skating ability. The parallel is with Sillinger and skating ability. Very interesting listen.

So, we should see him in about three months? :sarcasm:

He was called back up after the event. He did over sleep but they gave him another chance. He's still unlikely to see any significant time in the NHL. I think others will pass him

Mateychuk easily see's the ice as well as Svozil and is better defensively from what I watched in the playoffs. They each were asked to play very different roles. Both saw major icetime with Svozil being offensive option 2 and Mateychuk being more of everything on the ice. Svozil put up the numbers but it doesnt mean he was much better, infact I think Mateychuk's postseason is underrated from the games I watched.
Out of curiosity, in what ways was Mateychuk better defensively? I didn't watch WHL playoffs this year.

Fwiw I think Mitch Brown made a side-note in one of EP's 2023 pre-draft discussions that Mateychuk wasn't really great this season until February.

Well strength is probably the biggest benefit he has. Doesnt use it to lay the body as it feels like Svozil actually hits more but I think Mateychuk is much better at coming up with the puck when engaging in battles, hes a good puck theif and can get the puck going the other way quickly. He has decent awareness reading plays and having an active stick.

Hes not a Norris caliber guy in the junior ranks but I liked what I remember seeing against a better Winnipeg team. Id like to know his minutes because it felt like he was always on the ice.

Did he play with Hunt last year? Im guessing that with maybe self pressure of being captain maybe affected his play and risk taking, especially early. In the playoffs I thought his game was really good. 2 way and not so much a rover. Showed flashes on the playmaking we all expect but still wasnt rushing the puck like a year ago

CBJ prospects on Scott Wheeler’s Top 50 drafted skaters:

3. Fantilli
9. Jiricek
32. Mateychuk
43. Dumais
Honorable mentions: Brindley, Ceulemans, Svozil

TBH Dumais is ranked too high.

I agree on Dumais. I think it's better to keep expectations for him lower. I'd rather expect less and get more than expect more and get less.

Agreed on Dumais, however it's good to see that it's not just the CBJ fans hyping him up, the perception is shared universally at least to some degree.

There are more small players atop Scott Wheeler rankings than there are in the NHL.

For me that's just overhype. He had Abramov even higher IIRC.
