Wonder where he ends up on this summer’s prospect poll? Looks like last summer he was added at 17 but did not make the 20.
Let's do it now!

Plug 2OA in as #1 then let the Malatesta chips fall where they may while he is hot. Probably want to plug 22OA in top 10 somehere (shiny new toy syndrome).

Edit: After reviewing last year's vote I see him being in lower half of Top 10. Also can be a trial run of the Buy/Sell game.

He's definitely got a lot of work to do, but if he puts it together....
He's a player that can use the KHL to his advantage for development. CBJ can provide some guidance on conditioning, skills to sharpen, etc. But he can use the time to develop his game. Would love to see him come to the AHL after 2 more years. He and Ivanov could be more hidden gems for this club

I love this pipeline they've started building. We seemingly have someone coming over every year or two that's already borderline NHL ready.

Those Dolzhenkov clips are actually extremely intriguing. He doesn't look to be statistically dominant in the MHL by any means, but his feet move incredibly quickly for a guy his size. Pretty quick hands too. Can maneuver in tight spaces surprisingly well. He's definitely a skilled player- could turn into something fun.

Malatesta's last two Junior seasons: 123 Games, 65 Goals and 119 Points
Calvert's last two Junior seasons: 126 Games, 75 Goals and 166 Points

Its not apples to apples because I don't know who all their teammates were and the strength of their opponents but statistically I am not sure you can expect more offensive upside from Malatesta.
Thanks for sharing. I admittedly may be overly optimistic about his upside but I am jazzed about his game after watching him in the Traverse City games and the summer rookie scrimmage.

Calvert played on a line with Brayden Schenn, Mark Stone and Michael Ferland were also forwards on the team.

Quoted the wrong post, meant to quote @Doggy regarding scoring/upside.

Stone and Ferland werent doing much when Calvert was there and Matty led the team by double digit goals his last season there. Name dropping players who became good NHLers later is a bit disinginuous. The 2 of them combined had 56 points when Calvert had 99 which was tied for the team lead.

Ok this is the best clip of Malatesta from these recent games in my opinion. Not even the skating fast part but the fact that he doesn't give up on the play and immediately dishes the backhand pass that almost connects. That stuff is hard to teach and hopefully translates as competitiveness and a not quitting attitude.

How is that disingenuous? He PLAYED alongside Schenn. Stone and Ferland were on the team, the point being it was a deep team. It is just a PSA regarding matchups.
Calvert factored in on 30% of the Wheat Kings’ goals playing on the top line on a run and gun team.

Malatesta factored in on 23% of the Remparts’ goals playing on the second line of a much more defensive oriented team.

The points comparison might be more disingenuous because Malatesta played 13 less games than Calvert. A full 68 games for Malatesta projects to be 46G 36A 82P. So sure his assists are fewer but how much of that is attributed to the finishing ability of his linemates?

You look at the Remparts team and there are 3 NHL players (at F), Bolduc, Gaucher, Malatesta.

2 way to interpret this:

Jarmo is a genius

Jarmo sucks because the rest of the roster allows this :dunce:
We need to see contributions of those players. Would you rather have 4 Bemstroms or 1 Atkinson?

My point was more they werent seen as much at that time as they hadnt taken off at that level. They were 5th and 6th round picks for a reason. Scott Glennie went a few picks after Schenn showing how fun or scary drafting can be though
