Do you have any idea how incredibly bad a team would have to be to be in position to draft #2 overall two years in a row? Not to mention the luck needed in the lottery?

I am not a statistician but the odds have to be insanely low. No team is going to bypass a #2 overall pick in one draft in hopes of getting the following year’s #2 overall pick. For a GM that would be career suicide.

As bad as the Kings, Sabres, Sens and Wings have been the past two years, none were able to snag back to back top five picks these past two drafts. The Ducks and Wings were closest: Ducks were 3 & 6 and Wings were 4 & 6.

Yes the Rangers went 1 & 2 in back to back years a few years back but that was a crazy fluke considering the nutty lottery the league did the year of the pandemic-shortened bubble post-season. They had to win two lotteries that one year to jump from like 12 to 1. Not something any GM should be betting will happen to them.

In short...again...no way the 'Hawks pass the #2OA in 2022 to the CBJ in hopes of getting a top two pick in 2023.

edited for clarity of my thoughts
Good points. With the new lottery rules it'll be more likely than in the past for the shit teams to get the top picks, but I dont think it hurts the argument much.

Would be absolutely hilarious if the unlikely happened and Hawks traded Sillinger, Bean, Boqvist and Bedard for Jones with 9,5x8 contract

First of all your discussion of Kent Johnson probably belongs here and what one of you summery to does not sound good at all.
At least to be, the Alarm bells are very noisy. Very Noisy...
Agree, especially at his current weight. Anyone seen any write ups or vids breaking down his play so far this season?

About as you’d expect. Most of the production coming on the PP, and most of those points being assists.
Who in the NHL has not produced on PP as junior?
Yes who in the AHL (not reaching NHL) has not produced in as junior?

From Ice-Breaker Challenge
......
He is one of the most skilled players in all of college hockey, but he overhandled the puck an awful lot, including one instance where he actually skated himself right into one of his own teammates ......”
This is truly scary read my friends, Scary as it comes.
This summary yours sound far too familiar to me, far to familiar.

Over handling the puck an awful lot, does that sound any alarm bell or what?

The trouble here is, after every draft we hear about the next wonder kid.
They are all supposed to be skilled.
I think I read somewhere, that less than 30% of the first rounder makes it.:help: And make is in this case does not mean becoming anything but a fourth liner...

You just gotta relax. It's ONE guy's opinion on ONE game of Johnson

Sounds like a player that is responsible for zone entries and moving the puck into the offensive zone, exactly what he will be requested to do here. Kent Johnson <-

Most schools do extra credit for statistics programs in a Variety of sports if the program asks for it.

Pretty much all hockey programs have it obviously at home games.
Matt Hunwick who was a volunteer assistant coach last year, now with the rangers was talking about some of the freshman on the squad last year.

He said what they found is the freshman line with Johnson, Benny, and Becker was going offside quite a bit, and it was the Benny and Johnson lots of the time causing it because they did an extra move in the neutral zone, or an extra move at the line.

So they were going to work with them on that this offseason to make them go more north-south in the neutral zone and start "Taking what they give you" on zone entries.

If Johnson clears that up and maintains his speed, and maybe does some more chip and chase instead of dangles at the line, skys the limit.

Because that line had amazing offensive zone possession........... if they got it.

So Yes exactly, but in the same way as Texier and Roslovic and in the NHL that is almost certain lead to the puck losses...

It may work in juniors, but

Svozil has now collected 5 assists in 9 games with the Pats. No goals and tied for worst +/- of his team, -9. Disappointing start to the season for him, hopefully he turns it around soon. Last night he missed a check on Saskatoon player that eventually lead to a goal, on the play he almost looks like Justin Falk in CBJ jersey going 1vs1 against McDavid.

I posted this in the Monsters thread as well. Tarasov did not travel to Canada with the team for the weekend set because he tested positive for COVID (mentioned in AP's article in The Athletic on Sunday).

It’s obviously frustrating from our perspective but it’s understandable to an extent. What’s a little confusing about the approach is that it likely makes them less likely to win games now?

I have held that European players playing their development seasons in Europe instead of coming over ‘to learn the North American game’ is fine by me. However in a case like this you’d rather have the player in Cleveland. Ah well.

Hey! This town ain’t big enough for the two of us! I’m the only one who gets to post UM highlights.

Jk glad someone is following while I’m on vacation! Glad KJ13 is doing well.

I watched some of the first and thought Coolie looked good for Wisco as well.

hahaha. only watched the second but agree on coolie. johnson looked impressive shielding the puck with his body which was a bit of a surprise given his weight

How was Ceulemens?
He looked good. He had one play where he got stripped of the puck in his own zone (by Kent Johnson) but he looked good on the powerplay and holding the blue line. When we took him late in the first round my expectation was Gabe Carlsson and he looks much much better than that. He’s much more skilled than I expected.

Oddly enough the play I mentioned above was interesting because Kent Johnson is playing some PK now (not sure how much) but maybe showing some growth in his two way game?

I’m excited to see Ceulemens at the WJC (assuming he makes it). He will be the only CBJ 1st rounder that I expect to play in 2 WJCs.
